  1. Not just front line either.  When I finished grad school in data science, I was semi-head hunted by Amazon and did a first round interview.  When some of my coworkers heard about it, they told me that work/life balance is something that isn’t a part of the culture and even 20-somethings with no spouse, kids or life outside the office often have a hard time handling.

Ive definitely put my career on pause since 2017 when I graduated and have left money on the table, but at my current employer I have an amazing boss whose motto is ‘family first’ and has backed that up countless times...I’m not micromanaged, I work odd hours sometimes so I can manage my 1st grader during his pointless asynchronous days, check out the moment a kiddo has a fever, take a day off because it’s a holiday with both school and daycares closed, etc.  that’s worth a lot of money to me.

I’ve worked at Amazon for seven years and your coworkers were completely wrong.
  2. Yeah most UT grads are very well courted for work after graduation.  But in particular, I remember a handful of FAS horns a couple years ago showing me their job offers for having finished CS (some also had other majors).  They were sort of half showing off and half asking my opinion.  It's really fucking hard to keep a straight face with a 22 year old holding a written offer that pays more in one year than I made in my first 3 or 4 outta school.  Nevermind the NQSO/ISO, relocation stipend, other bells & whistles.  Our Computer Sciences programs have absolutely blown up on the international scene in the last decade.  It's been incredible to watch the caliber of students.

This is from Twitter and shows the peer group UT CS is among:

  3. Approximately 80% of EA's business is done via digital download now so who is on the cover is largely irrelevant.  Either they can customize the "cover" to whomever downloads it or they'll have something generic.  Marketing is what it is, they'll figure something out.
Another angle to consider though is the eSports aspect.  EA has gone big into Madden and FIFA eSports.  This will naturally follow I suspect.

If Texas were smart, they’d pay EA to put Sark on the cover.

  4. Am I the only one wondering what the hell that weird ass sideways christmas tree looking thing is?  Can't decide if I love it because it's really cool and interesting...or if I hate it because it's just weird and it looks like there's something wrong with it.

Ha. I have a lot of “decorative” trees like that now. I think they look good, but.....

    • Caldwell
    • Fayette
    • Hays
    • Llano
    • Travis
    • Williamson
Lee and San Saba have their shit somewhat together, and are able to stay at 75%.
Friend who works at one of the hospitals in our area said her staff was being surveyed, and talk of who would work the convention center.

Lol @ San Saba. They just pretend it went through the county in February and they are all good.
