  1. I believe these rankings are purely mathematical based on current rankings by event. So in the beginning of the season, there is a small sample size for each event and if Texas had a lot of athletes compete early relative to the rest of the nation, they may be 'overrated'. It was very confusing how our programs fell off the map this year after competing for top 5 finishes regularly in recent years. It appears to be due to a mix of graduations and some NCAA scorers leaving us via the transfer portal. I'm not sure how things are looking for years ahead; is there a good source for T&F recruiting rankings/info?
  2. Does Pickens have a history of tiring out after all these innings every day?

All 3 boats made the upper finals of the NCAA championships tomorrow. We are a likely top 4 finish as only 3 other schools did the same (Stanford, Washington, Yale). As expected, Stanford is the favorite to take the title.
  4. TCU has recently been our kryptonite
  5. Tough loss today showing how far we are from the top. But making the NCAA quarterfinals in the first real competition year would have seemed like a wildly optimistic prediction at the beginning of the season. We have a strong recruiting class joining next year. And seems we have a good shot with the top player in the portal - USC's Madison White (plays in their #1 pair) just started following Texas and Metzger on social media. The program's future is bright!
  6. We've been on a hot streak and overdue for a dud. With the SEC (and NCAA) championship format it's all about being good enough to make the match play round and then getting lucky/hot
  7. Social media clues don't look promising. No recent Texas affiliated follows, but several for the other 3
  8. https://www.ustfccca.org/team-rankings-polls-central/outdoor-track-field-team-rankings Mythical track meet, and the rankings tend to vary wildly in the early weeks
  9. With these top-10 wins piling up, we seem unexpectedly good this year. Is this roster talent or coaching?
  10. Such an impressive year 1 for Bob Bowman and staff. They maximized the team's returning talent, and 3 of our big 4 scorers were transfers he brought in. Everything matters when the final score is close, but the Notre Dame transfer Chris Giuliano was absolutely critical because his sprinting elevated our relays significantly. Next year the playing field is kinda blown wide open, as this year's championships was dominated by seniors and COVID 5th years. Fortunately Texas easily has the most returning points of any team, and we have a great recruiting class coming in. But another wrinkle is most teams are now having to cut athletes based on new roster limitations because of NIL stuff - Texas had 40 on roster this year and need to trim to 22 by fall. The transfer portal will be crazy this year.
  11. Great night for Texas. Our top swimmers are bringing it, including those 3 individual titles: Hubert Kos - 100 back, Rex Maurer - 400 IM, and Luke Hobson - 200 Free. A couple surprise freshman finalists were the cherry on top - Cooper Lucas 6th in 400 IM and diver Jacob Welsh came out of nowhere to grab 4th in the 3 meter (he was 17th at SECs). Indiana is probably out of it, they have the best divers but just don't have the swimming star power. The swimming community seems to think Texas has locked up the title, but I'm still worried about Cal. Today is their best day in the pool and they could overcome our lead if they swim as well as they did yesterday. It could come down to the last relay.
  12. Illegal turn on his backstroke to breaststroke transition. It was really blatant, and almost looked like he forgot he was not doing a normal backstroke turn for a second (he mainly competes in the backstroke events)
  13. A pretty good night for Texas. It could have been even better as one of our 200 IM finalists was DQed, costing us 11 points. Cal and Indiana are both looking strong as well, and could overtake us - Indiana may sweep the diving events, and Cal will have a really strong final day. I really can't decide which one I'm more worried about. But if we show up like we did today, Texas is probably the slight favorite to win the title.
  14. Texas women as a team performed well much of the year but kinda laid an egg this weekend. That's kind of our coach's reputation - well liked, recruits well and develops her athletes, but can't get the big meet taper quite right. Still I think 3rd place is nothing to scoff at and they brought home 3 individual titles. Emma Sticklen set an NCAA record in her final collegiate swim.
  15. Stanford is the surprise of this meet with an uncharacteristically strong performance. Combined with a dud performance from the Texas sophomore class (who had a great NCAAs last year), it has created an unexpected battle for 2nd place. I think we still come out on top today, bolstered by our strong divers. 2 Texas freshmen have already won individual titles, a good omen for the years to come. And our best overall swimmer, grad student Emma Sticklen, has a good shot at repeating her title today in the 200 butterfly.
