  1. Yup, party source in northern Kentucky. If it makes you feel better it was gone in 30 minutes, I just happened to be in the store when they posted on social media it was getting put out, hence the insanity that followed.

The guy had no socks and shoes on?

Would have been better, but no the toddler had no socks or shoes and was under old dudes arm with him running full sprint. It was probably like a 3-4 year old too, so not small. Other people were all running in too but seeing the dads with kids all running cracked me up the most.

  3. Picked up a 14 year Boone County single barrel today, people are losing their shit over this. I stayed in the parking lot of party source for a bit watching dudes literally sprinting into the store. One guy ran in carrying a toddler with no shoes or socks.

Are there any allocated releases on the horizon? If Jefferson's Presidential came and went, I will be pissed.

Is Cream of Kentucky worth anywhere near $200 + shipping?

Cream of Kentucky sat on shelves here for a month or 2 at 140 per bottle, I didn't hear great things but who knows.

Not a barrel bourbon expert by any means , but do know after a couple tours at various places the argument TX maker utilize is - there are more drastic daily swings in Texas than KY or TN. If the daily max/min are swinging 20+ that barrel is “breathing” and the unaged bourbon is in and out of those pores a lot more than if the high is 5-10 degs from the low. This year being a perfect example in Houston “winter”. Morning 45 deg jacket. Lunch 68 no jacket. Leave office 55 and falling jacket back on.

Not sure how the dissolved sugars work, but the spirit is “moving” in and out of the wood & char hundreds of times more over the coarse of a 10-12 yr than a KY or TN barrel that’s only seeing those cycles as the fronts move through. Also, wouldn’t the higher summer highs mean more dissolved sugars even if they aren’t “falling out” until Dec or Jan in most of TX? If the summer months are really “bad” bourbon months wouldn’t TX from Oct-March be exceptional bourbon months?

Be cool to see a sciencey article on it, but wasn’t able to find one with my google-fu.

Well right off the bat I know they are full of shit, living in Kentucky I know my temperature swings aren't 5 degrees per day. I'm guessing it swings more than Texas each day honestly

It’s been around a while. It’s sourced. I’ve never heard of it being worth a shit, but I’ve never tried it.

Yep sales dude told me it wasn't sourced when I asked and I didn't look close enough since it said Alabama on the front. Usually I trust that store but I got snookered here.

  7. Anyone ever had Clyde mays straight bourbon? Local store said it was the next big thing (ie oki, boone County, etc) , it's definitely different though. Tastes like straight up apple pie.

I'm glad I bought two bottles. Always buy two bottles.

Life lessons of course, the new old forester rye isn't half bad either for 20 bucks

1910 is darned good for something that's usually available. That said, I haven't seen at Spec's in months.

Out of stock until the summer, OF apparently went through a year's supply in about 6 months so you won't probably see it until June I think

It’s not going to kill secondary, it’s going drive secondary costs to that of W12. The only thing that will kill secondary is if they increase releases.

Yeah this is probably reality, I heard second hand that in 5 to 6 years they expect production of blantons and eagle rare to be enough where it sits on shelves consistently though, that would be nice.

i really enjoyed jackalope in nashville.  you can walk to yazoo from it too.

I liked jackalope a lot when I visited. Liked the beers better than Yazoo. Talked to the founders sitting in the taproom on a random weekday too and they were cool. Although this was years ago.

Picked up a GTS, THH and a Michters Toasted this week. I can rest on my laurels until next years hunting season.

Damn, someday I hope to pull something like this off.

My bourbon guy called me in tonight for his new haul. Nothing spectacular at all... But he had a bottle with which I was unfamiliar, which caught me off guard

Wild turkey rare breed barrel proof

Anyone got thoughts? He has it marked up over msrp at $59, but he always lets me negotiate. BB.com says msrp is $35, so I was planning to let it go and say we are too far apart at our anchors... plus BB doesn’t have a great review

All that said, looking for Surly thoughts first and foremost

I've had samples from a few releases, one was OK to good and the other was about the worst bourbon I've tasted.

So I wouldn't feel bad about passing at that price at all. I do pass at msrp too though

Your knowledge is impressive. Do you work in the industry kind sir?

Ha nope thanks for the compliment! I've just talked a lot with the stores around here and go in to new riff and Boone County every now and then. The new riff distiller tour is fantastic if you ever get a chance, I think they changed the wording and it's now called inside the lab or something. Lots of pours of all their juice and talking with the master distiller for an hour or so.

New Riff is supposed to be really good. I believe it's unavailable in Texas.

New Riff is ok for 4 year old bourbon, it should be good though with a few more years of age. They've knocked the marketing aspect out of the park though and there is serious money being them.

I think it was about $60 after taxes down here.

I get it, it's a 12 year bourbon. Still a little steep, but it's probably my easy to find go to now.

Yep, it's tasty stuff and bourbon prices are up across the board. Word is they are just about out of the sourced juice so it may be wise to stock up.
