1. Graduated 07 and Larch my first two years.

We’re probably Eskimo brothers and don’t even know it. I definitely buried it in a few Willow residents in that time frame.
Well shit, we might know each other. Spent a bunch of time at people's, chasers, and the one on Lincoln way that's closed now for fac every week. Sgt pepper for a bit too when it was open. Knew a bunch of people from larch, I lived on Chris brown and rj summerals floor if that means anything to you

Speaking of Old Forester, could somebody explain the r/bourbon fan boy love for the brand? I guess it’s a quality, available brand. They don’t do age statements, and the only offerings priced really well are the OF 100 and OF Rye.

I just figured out their Single Barrel 90 proof offering is only 5 years old.

You probably guessed right, that's basically why I like it.

3. yea I am about 99.99% sure it's Dickel.   Just not my bag baby.
Me either, and apparently very few out there liked it since they went back to young MGP again
4. On the back of that SAOS, does it say distilled in Tennessee or Indiana?
If it's Tenn, that's Dickel and a HARD pass for me.  If it's MGP, then you gotta good fucking bottle.
I think all the "select" is dickel unfortunately

Have you eaten Mexican food in, say, Colorado or Iowa or Virginia?

Iowa is surprisingly good actually. A shit load better than the other 4 states I've lived in.

6. They sell half bottles if you’re worried about taking the plunge. I like it, and that seems to be the popular opinion. No trace of charcoal.
Good to know. The non store picks are always there and I think I've seen 375s, so I'll have to try it.
7. Woodford Reserve Batch Proof is a solid proofer. I’ll just leave it at that. It’s probably an annual buy for me, but nothing special.
If you’re looking for a similar, but superior flavor profile, I’d recommend Jack Daniels Single Barrel Barrel Proof.
I looked at a party source jd barrel proof store pick for a solid minute and the employee actually talked me out of buying it a week ago. Mistake it sounds like?
8. I wasn't impressed with the HH7. I probably won't buy another bottle. Hard to beat Rare Breed at the same price point. I guess Evan Williams BiB at $13 is the new HH BiB.
Yup, that is my replacement along with larceny and old forester rye
9. I know there are some notable recent exceptions, I enjoyed the Heaven Hill 7 meltdown from afar, but do y'all usually get new releases early?
I can't speak for other areas of KY but in nky we seem to get them later actually for stuff released all over. Seems weird to me, but like the last wild turkey release was showing up on secondary way before release here.

I'm still a little pissed they took my Manhattan making 12 dollar hh bib haha

10. I’m a moderator for one in DFW.
Look up Dallas Anything can go moving company.
Couple of questions and you’ll be approved.
Lotta people will ship.
Need to be in Texas or can you live in Kentucky to join? It seems like every group I'm in gets shut down and I like to keep a pulse on what secondary is because I like to torture myself apparently
11. One of my local Kingwood stores just got a Knob Creek private barrel. It’s 9 years and 3 months and pretty good. Owner said he picked it over a 15 year.  Could well have been the better barrel but I’m guessing it will move slowly and a 15 year would fly out.  I’m trying to respect his decision but pretty sure I’d have made a different call - even if I truly preferred the younger barrel.
You are spot on for my area too. 15 year picks are gone in an hour or two and anything else sits for months.
12. Whoa just "hit the lottery" at Twins
I have a dozen + bottles of W12 and can source ERs whenever I want...that said I do love my W12, so do I just pick up another bottle..... or one of the others?
You can choose one of the following bottles to purchase:
Weller 12
$    28.99
Stagg Jr
$    49.99
High West Midwinter Dram
$    78.99
EH Taylor SmBatch
$    39.99
Eagle Rare
$    29.99
Coin flip on Stagg Jr or Weller 12 for me, if you already have a dozen Weller though I would go Stagg, new batches are good.
13. I saw this last weekend (at same store I bought the Baby Saz and 4R Small Batch Select).  Worth it?  They had Full Proof and BiB.
My opinion is it's good not great. I would pick full proof every day for a couple bucks more if they are both options. That said I have a few BIB store picks that are really good.
14. Probably a good question for ISUCyclones, but has anyone heard about Old Forester delaying the release of Single Barrel Barrel Strength? They announced It back in February and I haven’t a peep about  since.
Good question that I have no idea on unfortunately. I know the bourbon pursuit guys did a whiskey quickie review on the barrel proof a few months back so it's got to be in the pipeline. Covid probably it screwed up.
15. Thanks for clearing that up. Antique is the same price, and probably superior, but I’d still like to try MM101.
Yeah I would like to grab one too. One difference between antique is I believe the MM101 is 1 liter at around 50 bucks, not positive though. Costco near me put out a pallet of them right before covid hit for like 42 dollars each, they went fast.
16. Is Maker's Mark 101 a distillery only release? I can't find it on the interwebs, and it's not listed on the Maker's website.  The Bourbon Pursuit guys reviewed it recently and gave it a really good review.
MM101 is supposed to have similar tasting notes to Weller Antique.
I think it's Kentucky only now, but was originally distillery only. I've seen it pop up every now and then, but haven't been able to grab one yet.
