  1. no, those two things are not the same.  it's more like people telling you mass-produced things taste better than hand-crafted ones.  some people like mgp, and you're right the process is the same, you're just skipping a step and paying someone else to do part of the process for you. theres not as much respect in that, compared to a grain to glass outfit.
Tell that to the taters out there pretty please
  2. I keep forgetting to pick one of those up to try making the Poorer Man's Pappy.  I picked up the other half of that recipe a while back, keep forgetting the Larceny.  2/3 Maker's Cask Strength, 1/3 Larceny.
When I'm doing blends like that, do I need to age in barrel or just pour and mix in a carafe or empty bottle and go from there?
Curious on this too, I was thinking about making a poor man's 4 grain
  3. We’ll see what you his year brings, but I can usually find a couple bottles of EH Taylor Single Barrel on the shelf in Houston every year. Small Batch is a pass for me. I can hit some stores in the burbs if I’m really hard up for Single Barrel.
EHT Barrel Proof was a gift from a buddy who on the last days of being the “bourbon guy” at a store near my office. I’ve collected/enjoyed since 2017, and I’ve only seen one bottle of Barrel Proof.
I’ll buy the EHT Rye every time I see it. Third best rye in the Buffalo Trace portfolio. Obviously a huge gap between Handy and Sazerac 18, but EHT Rye blows the doors off of Baby Saz.
Texas is lucky for some of these things, I've never actually seen an eh Taylor sib in a store in Kentucky that wasn't outrageously priced. Only time I've bought a few was back visiting Iowa.
  4. Finally got a Russels Reserve SB store pick. Can’t wait to try it tonight
I've got a bunch and I really like them, tasty drinker that isn't impossible to find.
  5. First time I've bought it, just thought I'd ask! With confirmation, I'm going back today to get another one
Better grab a few more since these stupid things are also out of control on secondary pages

I'd fast forward through the Fred Minnick segment of the Bourbon Pursuit Podcast, Episode 253. What a preachy douche. His feelings are very hurt that us bourbon hunters are looking for good covid sales right now.

Wow, you weren't kidding. What a douche, even though the secondary prices of bourbon have actually exploded instead of going down, but that didn't stop him.

Four roses barrel strength, rock hill farms, and elmer and probably others have gone up by 100 to 200 dollars secondary pricing in the last 3 weeks. Its some bullshit.

  8. Saw an 18 year Elijah Craig yesterday.   Didnt pull the trigger at $140.
Did get a GG store pick 4 Roses single barrel,  barrel strength though.
Damn, send both of those to me
  9. Which is better, Four Roses Small Batch or Single Barrell?

Not sure if it's Texas yet but four roses small batch select is awesome and readily available (at least where I live) .

  10. How about the "rose in paradise" 6y release?  Trying to figure out how bad the liquor store guy did my dad.

I mean it should be in that 70 range msrp from willett, secondary (or sketchy liquor stores) I have no clue on that particular barrel. Maybe someone more in the know can chime in for ya. I have 2 stores where I live that are pretty much msrp for everything with a lottery system for customers. I'm also in Kentucky though.
  11. What’s Ballpark msrp on willet 6y rye rare release?
Think I've gotten a few 6 year single barrels around 70 bucks or in that ballpark in the last year.
  12. Nowhere near the 4 roses haul above, but grabbed a couple bottles at the distillery today with some stops along the way for a few store picks. 4 roses was nice enough to throw the glass and bourbon balls in for free. 22d630bf14961491614aaaa11d434374.jpg
