Well, everyone that has been converted has essentially lost the capability of individual thought. We don’t understand the details yet, but they either have a shared consciousness and ethos that is a summation of 7+ billion people merged into one, or they have a shared consciousness that is dictated by some alien species or non-human entity. So them saying it’s awesome is not exactly a glowing review.

The converted “individuals” have basically lost their humanity. They no longer have their own identity, the ability to express independent thoughts or beliefs, or to experience the joy and heartache of interpersonal relationships. Once everyone is converted, what is left?

Carol is the only person that seems to understand that and she should be an asshole about it.

On the individuality topic: everyone still has different styles, they wear different things, etc. I wonder if that’s an inconsistency in the story, a sign that each individual retains a little of themselves, just the circumstances (there hasn’t been enough time to homogenize), or what.

Lots of interesting questions on this show. I’m looking forward to more. Btw it’s not hard to get the next episode spoiled so I would avoid even looking at the synopsis or watching the next-week preview.

Watched the first 2 episodes and I like it so far. The premise reminds me a little bit of The Leftovers in the sense that an extreme supernatural event happens to the entire world in a short time period, and now we have to see how the survivors react.

I like how feisty Carol is. She isn't settling for anyone's bullshit and it created some interesting conversations with the group of other anomalous humans.

No idea where this goes, but I'd like to eventually see a scenario where they discover a way of converting some people back to normal.

Feisty makes sense but she’s kind of an asshole. She doesn’t seem to understand that for a huge portion of the global population, this new world would be a vast improvement.

She also doesn’t seem to have a single friend or loved one in her life besides her dead girlfriend. If this happened and everyone you ever knew (minus 1/8th of the world) was telling you it was awesome you’d be curious.

Sydney Sweeney's greatest acting job was as the petulant/smart ass college student in season 1 of White Lotus.

She’s not bad in Americana, which I only heard of because I saw it on a plane when I had watched almost everything else.

  4. All interesting theories but in an interview the lead actress said that no matter what you think, the story isn’t what you think it is. So we’ll see.

It does seem like almost a billion deaths is a lot. Could there really have been that many people who were in precarious situations when it all happened? How long were the people incapacitated, like five minutes? That wouldn’t have crashed all the airplanes and not every car accident would have been fatal.

The other allegory that I was thinking about is that this is what the world would be like when AI is everywhere. Just a bunch of sycophants trying to make you happy all the time.
