  1. Well shit. Came across a deal on a salamander synergy model 248. Got the cabinet (reg $2499ish) and an auto sliding tray (reg $499) for $1500 + tax. (Manufacturer link: https://www.salamanderdesigns.com/av-cabinets/synergy-model-248/)

Slider will sit on the middle shelf. Should be about 12" high total, and will slide out far enough to clear the top of the cabinet. Once set, the slider will cycle with the projector power. So out when you turn it on, and in when you turn it off.

Is this a short throw projector setup?
  2. I’ve read a couple of interviews with Kondo and Marks deconstructing the finale and I think this is an area where they didn’t quite calibrate the storytelling effectively, at least for me.  I don’t really FEEL Blackthorne‘s transition and I think it’s because there was too little made of it in the intermediate episodes.  We get the “becoming Japanese” part fine, but what was the mission again?
I’m doing a rewatch now that my wife wants to watch it and they definitely hit that beat in the first couple of episodes but maybe it’s a little too subtle.

I don’t pick up on much but wasn’t the mission that the Spanish were trying to horn in on the Portuguese honeypot that was “the Japans”?

Blue Eyed Samurai on Netflix is outstanding and has been picked up for a second season.

  4. Might have already posted but: I got a Strymon Cloudburst for Christmas and I thought it was defective. Turns out it didn’t like my Donner power supply. I ordered a PS from Strymon and now it works great. I had never seen that before with lots of other pedals.

I guess if I ever build a pedal board I’ll have to get one of their bigger multi-pedal units.

  5. Was the village spy related to Mariko? It sounded like they had the same name.

And yes, awesome show. Easy to recommend. Leave your phone in the other room.

Toranaga may have won and established the Edo period but Tom Cruise will have the last laugh when he visits the Japans and teams up with Ken Watanabe.

    Is that a good movie?

  7. It’s interesting because a couple of reviewers I like had the same complaint which was that it was well done but didn’t have much to say. But I’ve heard a ton of praise from movie goers so I want to check it out.

I haven’t heard / read any complaints that it was too political / not political enough.

  8. Finally caught up only to have one episode to go, argh. It’s fantastic though. Cosmo is channeling Tom Hardy with a dash of Russell Crowe. The women are G’s, and Toranaga is playing some 3D chess.

The one I don’t see mentioned much in the thread is Yabushige. The actor is doing a fantastic job of portraying the backstabbing worm.

Didn’t expect the Mariko Hodor but knew there was no happy ending here.
