  1. I'm in this thread, too. Trying to find a place in the Smokies for this summer. I'll have my elderly folks who will want to drive around the mountains and check out little shopping places and restaurants. The other 7 of us will want to hike, fish, fuck around in general. Nothing specific.

Maybe a cabin or a couple cabins close to each other. It can't be too off the grid, but Gatlinburg sounds not what we want, either.

Not sure if this is the thread for intermittent fasting from alcohol. Day 3 of 30 after at least 9 months of every day. But I did this last year too and it was fantastic.  The hard part is about to start though. I think I’ve gone through 3 dozen La Croix this weekend. Need a place to vent share mocktail ideas or count empty sparkling water cans together.

Need to drop 25 lbs and am off carbs after the holidays but I’m already working out 3x a week via tennis. We’ve got a peloton knock off on the way and I’m itching for some cross training again.  Hoping to get back to 6 days a week of at least an hour each time by February or March.  Need to fight off the middle aged blues.

the thing about working from home is food is always there. It’s not bad choices it’s too much of anything.  At the office I had very little available.  I gained weight eating healthy snacks amd crap but every day all day.

I chew gum and carrots basically all night when I'm at home so I don't snack. I actually had to get rid of everything in my house, except fruit and veggies and HUEL Powder. If I get sick of them, I'll go get a real meal or meet friends out every couple weeks. But when you starve yourself, a banana tastes like a vanilla milkshake, so it' great. That's easy for me because I live alone. And the sugar free gum thing can mess up your stomach temporarily, so be careful there.

I bring up the sugar free gum, because I have a lot of sugar cravings from dropping booze, so depending how much you were drinking, you might get some of those sugar cravings too.

Fasting cardio and lowering carbs will help a ton, but it really just comes down to willpower with food.

With me, a big problem was always going against the stream, everything was a battle, a losing battle. Now more than ever,  I go with the flow.... there are times,  many times actually, when I catch myself fighting it, but that's an important key. I catch myself and let go.

Man I think I can relate to what you're saying. Even before I drank, as a kid I always did shit the hardest way possible and never turned back. Drinking was, in a way, the easier path and the most difficult path. That's the bitch of the thing I guess.

How did the snake skins hold up?

    Winters here, fuck 2020

Haha. At least I've got some good hiking  boots. Post holing in that shit with a heavy backpack is a hulluva workout though. So I found some of these on geartrade for 100 bucks.

I just read this 2 year old article about how Don Nelson, the ex-basketball coach, is now a big pot smoker (after being so uptight his whole life) because he lives between Woody Harrelson and Woody Nelson and that he has his own strain of weed that he's growing called "Nellie Kush."

Real Sports on HBO did a segment on it. It's a good watch.

Central Iowa can be pretty hit and miss with it.  Des Moines area probably only has a few weeks most years where you'll have enough snow.  I got back into it last year, and I'd say I got a solid 5-6 weeks of good snow pack for it up here.

But it's a great way to get outside and work out in the dead of winter.

THat's my concern. I want to get snowshoes too, but I'm in Des Moines, so I don't know if it's worth getting stuff like that.

5'10" 220 is obese unless you are an elite runningback or something. How'd you get to 165? Did you lose a lot of strength/muscle mass?

Keto and a fair amount of fasting and cardio. The bulk of it was over a year and I wasn't ping ponging too much. Just steady. I don't think I lost any strength. I do a lot of rucking with 35 pounds on my back for 6-10 miles and pull ups and push ups frequently, so I'm probably stronger all around now than I've ever been. Not bulky.

I've discovered pull ups are the best thing for my upper body and core. THey burn like a sumbitch and are really convenient to do.

  7. Finally made it to maintenance stage. My high was 220, 2 years ago at 5'10 and a somewhat athletic build. Not scrawny, but always kinda pudgy around the middle. No real plan, but I finally decided that I'd get into the 160's and give myself that 10 pound buffer to go either way. no 150's and no 170's.

I hit 165, so now I just need to be careful and keep it up.

But dammit all to hell, I don't know what to do about the loose skin. I'm 43 and didn't lose a ton of weight, but I'm flabby as shit.

Yeah - the Who, Where, & How is all above my pay grade.

There is something in control out there, it isn't me, and my job is simply to check in on the regular.

I'm truly envious of this outlook. I'm not unhappy in the least, and getting sober has brought me happiness that I didn't know I had, but the above is something I can't accept for whatever reason.

  9. Is Apple TV my best bet for my olderish parents, as opposed to Fire, Roku or Google? They have a few apps that aren't on their smart tv that they want. I use Fire and Google, so I can easily show them that, but is Apple more elderly friendly? They aren't too bad. Yet

  10. I love a good sweatshirt for casual occasions and wearing around the house, but I haven't found any that I love. I want a few casual, comfortable sweatshirts under 50 bucks or so.

My best is an old Under Armor that I got as a gift 10 years ago an I wear it all the time, but it's been through the ringer so it doesn't leave the house. I thought about a couple more of those, but those have gotten pricey and I don't know if they're as comfortable as they used to be. Just plain, comfortable sweatshirts.

Anything jump out at you guys over the years?
