In 2003 I started to cook signature dishes for places hosting an event for which I am throwing a watch party.  The first time was the 2003 final four in New Orleans which has great choices for dishes. So I have also done it for every World Cup since then.  For Germany I went all out and got stuff over the internet direct from a German Delhi in New York that has stuff shipped in from Germany. South Africa I cooked from scratch but it was not a hit. For Brazil I cooked the Shrimp, yucca and coconut milk dish and it was a huge hit.

Russia has made me almost want to cancel the tradition. I have watched the Bizarre Foods St Petersburg episode and the Borsch does not look appetizing and Beef Stroganoff looks edible but is a very simple dish. I am not spending on caviar. I got stuff at an Eastern European store here in Austin and I am going to take the plunge. Anyone here eat Russian food expecting to be disappointed and instead was pleasantly surprised?

Watch this video. You will laugh and can make black bread. with meat. goes good with vodka, pickles, etc.

Standing in line for a sausage wrap and a beer - oh wait no beer - and heard one Aggie say to an Aggie kid — it’s a hard road. Dad Aggie looked at the guy funny and the funny looking Aggie said we blame my grandmother, she married an Aggie in the 30’s and now everyone in our family is an Aggie. The dad Aggie and kid Aggie walked away with a coke and whatever food they had.

Great story and thanks for sharing. I will go open a new beer in your honor.
