  1. The dams are still there. Not much else. Lots of debris that will eventually be cleared out.
  2. If any of you are in the area, and when things slow down around here, please drive Hwy 39 to the area known as Shumacher's crossing, which is right before you get to the town of Hunt. The Guadalupe River cut a swath of destruction north of this area 1/4th of a mile wide. Looking at the pathway is both awesome and terrifying. There is nothing left in this pathway, no trees, homes, nothing - just rock and debris. There used to be a forest and homes here. It is wiped clean. 30' of water 1/4th of a mile wide.
  3. Now that clean up has started and search teams are winding down (still 3 more people to find), I have made some personal observations (awesome and disgusting) from the last two weeks: Awesome - * 12,000 volunteers hat either showed up/live in Kerr County that helped with SAR, feeding, giving food, shelter, supplies, equipment, money, love, prayers to anyone in need. Most all volunteered their time free of charge. Shout out to Acuna SAR, Czech Republic SAR, the many first responders from Texas and the US. Kerr County appreciates and loves all of you! * My neighbors Chris & Jennifer, who assisted the Parisher family after their home was demolished and they would up close to our neighborhood's front gate. Aaron Parsley, who was in the home with his family, wrote a story in Texas Monthly that is an outstanding read. Be forewarned, you will cry as you read it. * Mercy Chefs. What an organization. Preparing 4-5000 meals a day for first responders and anyone in need. True heroes and still here. * My friends Tim & Cindy. Tim called me at 6 am on the 4th and told me the situation (we had no idea of the destruction on the morning of the 4th) and immediately started setting up City West church in Ingram with donated food and drinks for anyone that needed it. He told the pastor of the church (more about this a-hole later and we do not go to church here!) that we are going to take over his building and that is where first responders/Mercy Chefs set up shop. Cindy assisted Tim with Mercy Chefs and the Ingram Tom Moore HS coaching staff to deliver meals/water/supplies to camps in Hunt and first responders. And still are at the time of this writing. * Surly Response. Thank you @Homesickhorn, @InkaUtexas, @BillyGoatHill, @BurntEyes, @TexasEd, @TxEx84 and @tejas60 for reaching out and helping. * My new friend, JP Gonzalez, who is principle engineer for Rackspace Technology. JP was in Centerpoint Saturday sharpening chainsaws for free with his family and I am fortunate to know good people like him and his wife. * HEB, James Avery Charities (Thank you Paula and Margaret), Walmart, Mary's and Rita's Tacos, McDonalds, Chick Fil A, 323 Bakery, Barreras Tacos, Culvers and countless others in providing donations of money and food for everyone. Disgusting - * The pastor (Butthead) and his secretary (Goblin) from City West Church. Two of the sorriest humans that I have ever met. They reluctantly opened their huge facility to our team on the 4th. Also, the secretary turned away people that had dire needs for shelter/food/supplies/money. Our team was able to help the majority that she turned away with what they needed. She had no compassion and has no heart - FUCK HER! The pastor (not a true pastor of God) started hoarding gift cards/money that was supposed to go to people in need - FUCK YOU TOO! Both will face a reckoning when they meet their God - I pity their souls, but seriously - FUCK both of them. * The lady that came by the supply/food/water area three days straight gathering everything that she could carry to resell on Ebay. We had lots of people that had serious needs and she is taking every toothbrush (80+) and toothpaste (more than 100 tubes), 100s of diapers, trash bags full of everything! Holy shit! We finally ran her off, but I bet she was grifting somewhere else. FUCK that puta! * The lady at a mobile home park that was sitting in front of a damaged mobile home. When people sked what she needed, she replied "I have a Venmo". After dozens of people donated to her, come to find out she was not a resident of the park and didn't experience any destruction of her property. She was just taking advantage of the generosity of others. FUCK her also. I understand that there will always be those that take advantage of others in a time of crisis. Outside of these examples, I saw way more awesome than disgusting and we called out the disgusting when we saw it. Thank you all again. WKH
  4. Thank you @TexasEd & @TxEx84 for helping clear debris at Centerpoint and Rio Robles. Kerr County appreciates what you did and your big hearts.
  5. We have plenty of PPE at City West, so no need to buy anything when we can supply you for free. We have gloves, ear plugs, etc for those that need them for Saturday. Thank you.
  6. I will meet y’all at the VFD at 8:00 and bring water, sports drinks, Liquid IV, insect repellent, extra gloves, cold water towels. Looking forward to meeting everyone and thank you!
  7. I just might. Kind of busy now with, you know, a flood. Still raining at this time.
  8. As I am writing this, it is raining again - already 3" in the rain gauge. Hunt/Ingram responders/helpers evacuated, Walmart and HEB closed, everyone asked to stay home. I understand the politics of this, but we ares till finding the dead and frankly, we don't have time to point fingers right now. There are too many people with real needs, black, white, brown. No one gives a damn, we are just trying to fill needs. When you see burly men out searching for the dead and they find a 6 month old baby that has been dead for several days and these men are broken and crying by what they have seen - that is what we care about now. When you have single moms come to our warehouse and need diapers and wipes for their baby and ask to take 5-10 diapers because they know there are others that need - that is what we care about now. By the way, we gave her several boxes of supplies - we have plenty. I see a community that is caring for their own - thousands of people locally, nationally and other countries. The crew at Mercy Chefs told us that they have never see a response like this to a disaster. I thank God for all the help and for the ability to help my fellow west Kerr neighbors. WKH
  9. Your take is spot on.
  10. I promised @TexasEd that I would get the name of the Centerpoint Fire Dept chief and I will. About to head out to City West today and help with food delivery and will stop by Ingram Fire Dept and ask if they know the cell for the chief. For those that volunteer, Blind Faith Foundation will feed everyone when that time comes. Thank you in advance! WKH
  11. Haha. I bet my grandparents knew your aunt. They lived off of Stanford St in a small cracker box home. The Jesus painting - would have scared the piss out of little West Kerr Horn! With names like your dad's extended family, we may be related - some of the names in our family - Notie, Helon, Nona, Elbert. Poor West Texas folks that probably saw a name on a product somewhere and said, "This sounds like a good name".
  12. Shout out to @tejas60 for helping us take food out to Hunt Volunteer Fire Dept today. Thank you Tejas60!
  13. Not going to refute a lot of what has been said, some of it is true and some of it is speculation. The racial make up of the county (non scientific, but based on observation) is probably about 50/50 White/Hispanic, with a few African American and Asian. Most of my friends are Hispanic. In every city, you have racist POS and we have some here. Most everyone here gets along in my view.
  14. My grandparents lived in Big Spring over by Howard College. My uncle & aunt and their two kids currently live there.
  15. I grew up in small town West Texas (Snyder) and have lived in Austin (7years) and DFW (38 years). As a youngster, we came down to Kerr county, Kingsland, Christoval, Leakey and Camp Wood to camp and fish. Good times. When retirement talk between my wife and I started, I told her I had a place in mind. We have lived here for 3 years. Absolutely love it. I like that we have dark skies and I can see the stars at night. I like that I don’t hear planes, trains and sirens at night. It took me a couple of months to get used to sleeping where it was so quiet. Another adjustment is to not being in a hurry and slow down, not be insistent. No one is in much of a hurry here. My friends here are a motley crew: the owner of a food truck/ nonprofit food bank, a semi-retired security guard and his wife that moved here from Northern California, a Kerr County native that works in construction and his wife that is my barber. One of my UT classmates and I have reconnected and he is the director of Schreiner University music dept and the conductor of our local symphony. I am on a deer lease with the nonprofit guy and the music guy. Go figure. Redneck hunters have different interests! The county has very affluent areas ( game ranches, retirement communities) and abject poverty. Ingram Tom Moore HS built a new band hall and installed showers because some of the kids in band have no running water in their homes. One of the reasons we started the nonprofit was to help these families with food and basic necessities. I can add more later if anyone is interested.
  16. @InkaUtexas@TexasEd Beers on me at Pint & Plow. Y’all are good dudes!
  17. I just sent TexasEd a message. Appreciate your help!
  18. Hi Pato, Full disclosure. Blind Faith has been a ministry for us for around 2 years. We mainly have been helping Kerr County residents with food/assistance. Then the river tsunami happened. My friend Tim is an Ingram resident that used to own Nature Blinds, which manufactured hunting blinds. Tim’s wife Sandy passed away 6 years ago and he sold the business. His heart is helping people and he started Blind Faith. Our main funding has been through James Avery Foundation and local churches. We have some infrastructure-two warehouses for storing food, supplies etc. And we have a pretty rudimentary website. Pretty bare bones. But we have big hearts and desire to assist others in our community. Are we like Red Cross-hell no. Do we have shiny offices and high paid fundraising. Nope. I still work full time, so this is a ministry for me personally. We are not associated with any church or group and our plan is to stay independent from any church. All of our team attend the same church in Ingram. We would appreciate any donation that you can give. It will 100 percent go to those who need it. Thank you.
  19. Hi Pato, Blind Faith Foundation is local in Ingram. Inka met some of our team yesterday at City West. If your company would like to make a donation, we would appreciate that very much. We will be helping folks after everyone else leaves. https://cash.app/$blindfaithfoundation Thank you! West Kerr Horn
  20. 10-4 - Thanks Inka! Appreciate your help today!
  21. Inka is correct. We will need folks to help out in the coming weeks. I look forward to meeting him and his buddy in person. Also, if you would like to donate, Liquid IV would be great. It is hot asf and humid with all of the water in the atmosphere and just being out in the heat for a few minutes whips your ass. I helped unload 500 cases of water and Gatorade Saturday and was pretty much done for the day.
  22. Was just notified that Tivy High School teens unloaded 3 bus loads of supplies this morning. City West is not accepting anymore donations. Not sure about Comfort/Centerpoint/East Kerr County. Thank you to all that gave time, donations and money.
  23. And shout out to Inka4U’s aggy friend.
  24. Adding on to Burnt Eyes post. City West has lots of what BE posted: food, pet food, toiletries, diapers, wipes, clothing etc. Mercy Chefs are also there making hot food for anyone that needs a meal. Shout out to Inka4U and Billy Goat Hill for traveling to Kerr County to lend a hand with their talents. Hook ‘em!
  25. Hi everyone. We live between Ingram & Hunt. Here is how you can help: We are set up at City West Church with food for first responders. Other locations that are feeding folks are The Kerr County Youth Event Center (The Ag Barn) and Cross Kingdom Church. We have plenty of volunteers and food at City West. There may be needs at the other two locations. For those wanted to help with search, please meet at the Centerpoint Fire Dept tomorrow morning. Harry Holt is the coordinator. Ask for Harry when you get to the station. We had around 200 searchers today, but will not have the folks tomorrow, so help is greatly needed. There are piles of debris 20-25 feet high and this all needs to be gone through. We do not need any equipment, just people willing to work. For those inclined, please give to a nonprofit that will help Kerr County folks and not pocket the $. REK's non profit is good (he is a local). Another is Blind Faith Foundation, which is located in Ingram and the head of it is a friend of mine. For those that cannot give or help out, we would appreciate your prayers. I have been around for over six decades and have never seen devastation like this. God Bless Ya'll. West Kerr Horn
