2026 Golf Junkies Thread: This Year's Swing Change is the One

Featured Replies

New year, new swing changes, new goals we'll probably fail to achieve because that's golf.

Here's to a great year of golf!

Just bought my son and I clubs yesterday! Diving in head first!

some fairway woods

one set if titeist 714's. good set

I bought each of us a set of the Callaway Edge's at Costco. Seemed like a good starting point for both of us and we can grow from there.

What drivers and fairway woods? I’ve been on the fence about replacing both for years. I’m running an M4 that I used to love but can’t find the fairway with anymore, definitely the clubs fault. And my 3w is a Burner that I bought in 2009 and has been my favorite club in my bag for all of those 17 years. I’ve been thinking about replacing it for a decade but it just feels automatic more often than not.

Been telling myself I need to fix my driver swing and get fitted before I buy a new one. Also been telling myself that there’s no need to replace what’s working with the 3w, but damn I’d love for it to be a 255 club instead of a 235 club.

Your 3W is like my 3H - it's a circa 2013 TM SLDR. I've tried to replace it so many times but it just works so well for me that it's still in the bag.

Driver swings are a unique beast and drivers are stupid expensive now. I would spend ~$150 on lessons trying to fix the driver swing before dropping $600 on a driver.

Are you talking tee box or fairway shots? If you can consistently money 235 off the fairway leave it the fuck alone.

235 off the tee. 225 out of the fairway.

I’m a 14 handicap so it’s not as automatic as maybe I made it seem, but I feel completely confident with it in my hands. Especially in comparison to the other clubs at the top of my bag, driver, 3w, 3h, 5i, it’s by far the most consistent of those clubs. Out of the fairway, I feel more confident hitting 3w off the deck 225 than anything else down until probably 8i. The only time I really get into trouble with my 3w is when the ground is very soft, which up here is more often than I’d like. I can get a little steep with it and when the ground is hard the club skips into the ball and I just lose a little distance, but when it’s really soft it digs in for an ugly chunk.

I bet I could score almost as low with my 3w and 56* as i can with my full bag.

I assume you have a regular track you play. As the weather allows, please put this theory to the test over the course of a week or so. I have had a similar thought with a 4H, a 56 & putter. I've never tried it, but your post has me thinking. Sadly, I'm a 25ish handicap so I hit so inconsistently I'm not sure I'd be a good test case.

225 off the deck with a 3W is nothing to sneeze at! I doubt that's what's holding you back from being a single digit handicap. Even 235 off the tee with any club (3W, 5W, Driver, whatever) is nothing to sneeze at. That's basically my 3W distance, for reference.
