  1. Pressure on Lincoln Riley... https://www.on3.com/news/joel-klatt-ranks-the-ten-teams-most-likely-to-make-their-first-college-football-playoff-in-2025/
  2. Missed this departure... Back in late April, Lincoln Riley made the decision to part ways with his longtime head strength coach Bennie Wylie at USC. Wylie was entering his fourth season with the Trojans after following Riley from Oklahoma, where he spent four seasons and was instrumental in the three of the Big 12 titles and a pair of College Football Playoff appearances for the Sooners. Now Wylie has landed at a Texas high school leading their strength department. Huntsville HS (TX), a school of about 1,900 students in grades 9-12, announced the college strength coaching veteran as their new head strength and conditioning coach. A graduate of Sam Houston State, Wylie will now work just a few miles up the road from the Bearkats campus. The stop at the Texas high school ranks is the latest in a career that includes college stops at programs like Texas, Tennessee and Texas Tech, where he and Riley both worked under the iconic Mike Leach in Lubbock.

  6. "pubic availability" ??? How much Tennessee Athletics Director Danny White made to lead the nation By John Brice Jul 2, 2025 In about four weeks, Danny White will get a contract extension at the University of Tennessee for his role as athletics director. He'll be signed onto the top post on Rocky Top for a six-year term, one that rolls forward every year on July 31 as part of the renegotiated pact that White inked last summer. Now, as the Knoxville News Sentinel first reported, White has emerged from the tattered mess that Phillip Fulmer and Jeremy Pruitt left behind to become college athletics' highest-paid athletics director -- at least among public institutions who are required to disclose employees' salaries. After receiving a 20-percent bump in base salary a year ago, from $2.2 million to $2.75, White also saw Tennessee athletics excel across a number of sports -- and that, in turn, generated the magic number in White's incentives compensation: $600,000 in bonus bucks. In total, White made $3.35 million. One of the most significant elements to White's bonus structure -- the Learfield Director's Cup for overall athletics success across all sports -- was just finalized in the past couple of weeks. Tennessee finished No. 6 in the nation -- second in the SEC and less than 200 points behind Cup winner Texas. Once UT clinched the top-10 finish, White clinched a nine percent bonus of his base salary -- a $247,500 jackpot that accounted for almost half of White's bonus compensation. Additionally, Tennessee's at-large berth in last year's first-ever 12-team College Football Playoff netted White an extra three percent on his base income, or $82,500 for the Vols' opening-round loss at eventual national champion Ohio State. White's second contract amendment that he inked with Tennessee in November 2022 had specified White would receive an automatic five-percent pay increase each year on the July 31 rollover term. He also receives 10 courtesy flights per year on UT's jet. FootballScoop reviewed White's entire contract via its pubic availability. 7. Sometimes also referred to as "Right 53 Veer Pass"
  8. But now Texas was faced with a 4th and 3 and their own 43-yard line with just 4:47 on the clock when Street called timeout and went to find out what play Darrell Royal had dialed up. Royal remembered a conversation he had earlier in the game with tight end Randy Peschel. Royal was asking why the option wasn't working to the tight end side and Peschel had told him that the Arkansas defensive back, Jerry Moore, was coming up in run support at the snap and he couldn't get a clean block on him. Now facing 4th and 3 late in the contest, Royal decided to go for it. "I never considered punting," said Royal. "I knew with our football team it would take longer to score than we had. I just thought it was time to swing from the floor." As the timeout wound down, Royal finally told Street to run "53 Veer Pass." Street knew the play called for only the tight end to go out and he was to go deep. Street actually thought he may have not heard the play correctly. Maybe Coach Royal really meant "53 Veer," so he went back to doublecheck. "Coach are you sure 53 Veer pass?" You're damn right." Royal replied. https://www.barkingcarnival.com/2010/12/06/53-veer-pass

  18. Tough SOB... had classes with him. Mike 'The Baabarian' played 149 games in 11 seasons in the NFL with the Cleveland Browns, New England Patriots, and Kansas City Chiefs After retiring from the NFL, Mike competed in the Scottish Highland Games, winning the Masters World Championship in the 45-49 age class in 2005 Two years ago, I went down a "rabbit hole" and found some interesting stuff on Mike Baab... he's considered one of the best centers for the Cleveland Browns. In 2008, Baab was inducted into the Football Hall of Honor at the University of Texas. The Life And Career Of Mike Baab (Complete Story) By Jimmy Swartz February 18, 2022 https://www.brownsnation.com/mike-baab/ Baab also attracted attention for something off the field in 1986. He starred in a 17min short film (produced by his wife) called "Masters of the Gridiron” . The film, which raised money for the United Way and featured various other Browns players, was based on “Conan the Barbarian” movie. 😋 Baab stated: When we meet each other now, [our lines and character names] are the first thing we say to each other. When I see [Cleveland linebacker] Clay Matthews now, I call him Clayrock. They all call me Baabarian. It’s just what we do. All the names came from this silly video.” The film remains a good memory for Baab and other players who appeared in the film. Even before the film, Baab was a popular player, as a small subsection of fans in Cleveland’s Municipal Stadium called themselves “Baab’s Barbarians” and dressed in medieval costumes and carried (fake) swords.
