So, this isn't my gumbo, but it's one I've eaten many, many times.  It's the special at Lake Jackson Seafood down in Brazoria county.  This is their regular "special" -- a large bowl of gumbo and two pieces of fried fish, for $13.

And a PRO move?  Take at least one of those fried fish filets, break it up, and drop it into the bowl of gumbo.  Splash of louisiana hot sauce.  Happiness.

Lived in B-county near LJ for longer than I want to remember.  Don't ever remember Lake Jackson Seafood location.  I will look for it the next time I'm down that way.  However, if you find yourself over near Beaumont/Sour Lake on SH 105 go to Vautrots Cajun Cuisine.   They make some fine gumbo.  We usually get a gallon to take to my dad once a year down South.  The Uncle Emeritts sampler platter feeds the wife and I just fine.

  2. Thanks, Imma for site and the effort it takes to deal with it.  I'll say with an embarrassed heart it took me way too long to sign up for Burnt Ends.  Like most I really enjoy the wittiness, comradery, and sports info I find here.  A digital swear jar for foul mouthed posters should put the bottom line in the black by the end of next week.  My other brainstorm is we get @Nicole44 to set up an Only Fans page and pillage the proceeds.

In all seriousness, if I had the solution, I'd be glad to share.  I keep listening, reading and thinking about it.  For all that we are (good and bad), at least we aren't aggy.

  3. First, really good thread and discussion.  Along the same lines, I wonder what music/song would define the decade, not the generation.

Second, I'm early Gen X.  I can easily identify with the characters of the Breakfast Club and Fast Times.  IMO, you can't go wrong either way.

Third, I'll always make time to watch The Last Picture Show, great casting and story.

  4. Question, for the computer savvy.  One time I copy and paste, and it will post like this.  The next time, I copy and paste the entire picture shows.  Is it me or how the original vid is posted/made?  I'll get a pencil and paper for note taking.

You guys (and your wives) crack me up. But quick question. For the happily married, how did you know she was the one? What advice would you give someone that finally had a brief idea of thinking about marriage? Mid 30s. And for the others that have all the nightmare stories, what would you change if you could go back in time?

I don't have to get bit by a dog to know he'll bite.  Some things you just know.  I consider myself to be more than lucky I chose wisely.  She's better than a best friend.

I have our outdoor faucets wrapped in heat tape with foam covers (one downstairs on one the south side is just under a foam cover and then some soft-sided insulation), but I saw this rig online the other day, and think I'll be going with this from now on:

It is just a cheap night-light setup with a 7W bulb (has to be an incandescent) - a 7W bulb gets the temp up to 40F over the ambient temperature, so plenty good down to the single digits.  I'd make sure that it was mounted on the side as opposed to underneath (don't want to risk a random drip of water onto an electrical fixture).  But I've got 4 outside faucets that I could run that on - just get good foam covers, 4 nightlights with bulbs, and run them to outlets (all but one have a nearby outlet, I'd need a decent extension cord for the one on the south side of the house), and we're done.

Here's mine from last year.   I also mount my box with light offset to the side for the "just in case water drop also".  Works like a champ, as far as I'm concerned.

  7. Made the drive from Zapata Co to Hardin Co. yesterday, saw no less than 8 wrecks.  Watched 2 po' mofo's spin out right in front of me and pinball off the median.  After we got home, checked Houston Transtar and they closed 59 in the Sugarland area, so we just made it by.  Big crash in Liberty, managed to squeeze by that one.  By the time we got home I was ready for a double and hot shower.  Stay safe ya'll.

    Current temp here is 22F.

  8. I've heard rumors that the Indians have gathering the shit out of firewood. Sounds like it's gonna be a cold one.  You folks North of H-town better start wrapping pipes, bring in the pets and fatten up the wife.

  9. The 369's look nice.  I do favor the SW200 movements.  I'm looking at Farer Discovery or the Formex field watch.  I like 'em both.

As far as black goes I like the Sinn 6100, Glashutte (just about any model) but in the spirit of "affordable" I also like Marloe, Campanola, Houtman, Dekla, or.. there's so many great black dials.  Hence, the reason I haven't bought a black one yet.

Grey or Silver, right now I haven't a clue.
