Happening now: My wife is there, working with this group. They are there to bear witness to our actions (these are not our government's actions, they are OUR actions -- we are responsible). They are there because every faith tradition says functionally the same about the immigrant and the stranger. Morning Joe's coverage earlier today: http://www.msnbc.com/morning-joe/watch/rev-barber-brings-moral-monday-to-el-paso-64794181936 Also, due to Texas' rather draconian criminal laws regarding trespassing protesters (class B misdemeanor, up to 6 months in jail), my wife cannot be one of the people who volunteers to cross the line and be arrested for trespass, as a conviction would impair her ability to travel. We had a long discussion about it. To have a real conversation about balancing doing what you believe is necessary, versus taking measures to protect your family....those conversations are happening. They aren't pleasant. But I listened to the live-stream of the interfaith service last night. The message is one that all people of faith, and of conscience, should hear.18 points

No, no one is saying that about every recruit we lose. It’s being said about every recruit we miss out on to aggy, Jawja, tOSU, Oregon, USC, Clemson, Bama.. hell, even Florida when Rogers committed there. I get it, they pay players, but does it really need to be the center of the fucking circle jerk every time one of our top targets commits to one of those schools? It’s progressively gotten to the point where it’s turning aggyish. We know they pay, we know we don’t pay (or at least enough idk), but get over it. No need to bitch every. Single. Time.10 points

To @Celery Man's point, Anecdote time, because I personally know many formerly (and present) homeless. Yesterday I drove a few guys from their homes to recovery meetings. These men each have over 3 years of abstinence from drugs/alcohol. One guy works construction and gets paid in cash, $300 a week. He has his own section 8 apartment. He was bitching about how his job opportunities are significantly limited due to past felonies and the $60K in past due child support that accrued while he was locked up. If he get a legitimate job with an employer that withholds taxes then the AG's office is going to levy 60% of his income. Let's say this guy's ceiling is $15/hr then that's $600/week gross. . .even without other withholding that means he'd take home $240, which means he'd lose his abode. I recommended that he go visit the AG's office and state his case. He replied that he has countless times, but the most they would be willing to budge is 1%, and then they act like they're doing him a huge favor. The other guy is doing fantastic - MHMR has him on the right meds and he lost his SS disability about a year ago so he either has to earn money or live on the streets. Anyway, he's living in a halfway house and bicycling to work at Jack in the box, and he's very proud of his job. He's collected 3 paychecks but he says that the AG is about to torch him as well. I hope he can keep his room at the halfway house after the impending wage garnishments. Both these guys have been homeless/mentally ill/addicted, and found a way out, or at least a way to get some manageability in their lives. I bring up the subject of "other compounded financial obligations" because I'd venture many homeless are in the same situation - at some point they were unable to provide for their children and those financial obligations continued to accrue. Same thing with cost of licensing, i.e. they had a DWI or other offense and it would take thousands to restore their right to drive legally. Same thing with probation/parole fees, restitution, etc. Even the IRS gets their piece. One formerly homeless buddy of mine got a bank account to document his expenses for his house painting business. . .he's actually a single dad to a 5 year old, and the AG's office got delayed in processing court orders (mom got child support for a few months, then in a follow up order she was ordered to pay the dad when it became clear that he was going to be the child's custodial parent, mom's still an addict) He went to pay his day workers and go buy formula for his daughter only to find his bank account had been emptied by the AGs office. Took them a month to refund the money. So the homeless who do want to become self supporting through their own means are immediately looking at wage garnishment should they attempt to get a traditional job in today's economy. That's a huge obstacle. Not saying they shouldn't pay obligations, but IMO it's a modern day version of debtor's prison.8 points

The fact that you mention Georgia as being one of the best programs in college football is proof that paying players is a pretty smart idea.6 points

Mrs. Brat fixed a big batch of her signature crepe enchiladas yesterday for our family dinner to celebrate 3 birthdays. She even made one dish of vegan ones for the family hippies. The little one is for our own "leftovers" and hidden in the back of the fridge - vegan dish is at the lower right: Ready for baking6 points

Anyone who supports Dotard is a racist. If you are willing to support that racist asshole then you are agreeing with what he is doing. The morons on here who support him are 100 percent racist.6 points

Lulz. Similar sort of moment yesterday over our morning coffee: Mrs. Ponderer: "I've been too polite to mention it for 17 years, but I have to say something now that we're moving away and never coming back here..." Me: "You have my attention. Go on." Mrs. Ponderer: "Have you ever noticed how every girl at Texas A&M, hell, every girl in East Texas, regardless of weight or race, has the same sort of face?" Me: "East Texas Box Face?" Mrs. Ponderer: "Yes! Do people call it that?"6 points

Serious question; have you ever been poor? You’re calling people “privileged cunts” but don’t seem to grasp the situation from any first hand experience. In regards to you 99.9% assertation. 1) economics - this is a function of the rest and at a macro level it’s better than ever. 2) education - pre - HS is free and if you’re poor most of college is as well. (I’m proof of this). If people don’t take it it, who’s to blame? 3) race - the race card is bullshit. I’m Mexican with a very Mexican name and looks. I have never had any issues neither have any of my aa or other ethnicities friends. 4) pay - goes back to economics, supply & demand, and value creation. But, I think you’re insinuating that homeless people aren’t paid enough. Even at the most basic levels of minimum wage you can afford a place to stay pretty much anywhere. Csb: When I was a kid my dad got a job as a dishwasher making minimum wage. We lived in a weekly hotel during that time. This was in California btw. Bottom line: way more than 0.1% of homelessness isn't covered in what you said. If you don’t believe me, go out, talk to homeless people, and ask them how they got there. Some have mental issues, but most are based on substance abuse...6 points

I am not saying that payments do not occur, but all the complaining about another school paying more money for a recruit that doesn't select Texas is getting pretty old. If we wind up landing Bijan and LVB, many other schools' fans will make the same claims about Texas. Maybe my sarcasm- meter needs calibrating.5 points

KL waited patiently while Texas kept him on the back burner as a back-up plan for Higgins, Bru, and Wilson. Kennedy LOVES TEXAS like Ehlinger loves Texas. So as soon as the Horns coaches gave him a commitable offer, KL visited one last time and accepted. Thrilled to have another player on the Horns roster that loves Texas as much as Kennedy does... 🤘5 points
