Putting his stuff here is kind of thread shitting because he’s a known liar and that doesn’t change just because not everything he says is a lie. I’m not gonna go CR out of CR, but this has been a good thread where some people who actually know shit about fuck can offer reasonable and sometimes differing interpretations based on facts.15 points

I had the pleasure of following both TJ Ford and Vince Young in high school their junior and senior years. That was a time in my life where I made sure to catch as many high school games as I could in both sports. The first high school football game I ever watched is when my Dad took me to the Astrodome to see Earl Campbell play in the state championship game, and I figured I'd never see another player as good as Earl. I saw a lot of dominating performances over the years, though. But Vince was the best high school player I ever saw. His improvement from his junior to his senior year was astounding. I assumed part of it was because of his time at the Steve McNair camp. I always wonder if McNair hadn't been murdered if he would have been able to be a mentor for Vince off the field as well as on. In any case, the Madison Marlins had never been anything on the high school scene before or after Vince. They went through a murderer's row in the playoffs, beating traditional powers Yates, Katy (a David v. Goliath matchup), a loaded Northshore (one of the best games I've ever seen at any level), Hightower, before losing to Westlake in one of those games that you just knew was going to the team that had the ball last. The Marlins couldn't put up a 4th and short stop, though. In any case, I had mixed feelings about VY going to Texas, because although he was my favorite player I had serious doubts whether Mack and GDGD could use him effectively. I remember Ketchum coming to speak at a luncheon group, and when he told everyone he thought Chance Mock would be the starter I loudly proclaimed there was zero chance he would be able to hold off Vince. I remember getting into proverbial text shouting matches on Hornfans and other sites at all the people conjecturing he'd be better at WR because of his struggles at the QB position, when I absolutely knew the reason he was struggling is because of the coaching staff. Watching dumbfounded as a group that would go on to be the highest scoring offense ever up to that point the next year, would be blanked by OU for the first Texas shut out in 20 years. Turning everything around after Missouri, the season he had the next year as a redshirt junior, culminating in the greatest college football game of all time, and the historic 4th and 5, I knew I had reached my peak as a sports fan, and nothing would ever duplicate that. Love ya, Vince. Always will. My favorite player of all time, and no one will ever equal it. I saw TJ Ford's Willowridge squads play about 30 games over the course of his junior and senior years. They were amazing his junior year, but they were Phi Slamma Jamma minus NC State at the end of the season, as seniors. 75-1. Two state championships. I figure I'll never see a high school team that good ever again. Just loaded. They played at such a fast tempo, and with TJ Ford leading the offense, they were incredibly exciting whether in the half court or in transition. Just a ridiculous squad. As much of a difference maker as TJ was on the court, he was an even bigger difference maker off of it. Texas never again had someone on their roster quite like TJ Ford, who understood Coach Barnes and what made him tick. TJ could both be supportive of coach while also taking up for his teammates, in a way that didn't anger Coach further. But of course he made a huge difference on the court, too. The neck injuries he suffered were so scary for all of us. Not as much as it was for him, of course, but scary in that helpless way. I'm convinced if he hadn't had the spinal stenosis he could have been another Allen Iverson. He was so quick on the court, had such great leaping ability, and then his unbelievable vision and handle with the ball was otherworldly. Plus he was such an amazing leader. I thought for sure during that run from 2002-2008 we had made it finally as a basketball program. I just figured that's the way it would go for the rest of my life until Barnes won his multiple championships and had the arena named after him. I remember the frustration in Houston watching Memphis have their way with us to prevent another Final Four berth. Never did I dream I'd still be waiting on a return to the Sweet Sixteen 14 years later. In any case, I'm very grateful to Rick Barnes. He was the Anti Mack Brown for me in ways I needed at the time. I always say that Abe Lemons put modern UT basketball on the map, Bob Wetlich was a black hole, Tom Penders lifted the program to an exciting level, but Rick Barnes is the one who brought the program true legitimacy. Not to take anything away from all the coaches and players who came before, because there are many! But that run from 2002-2008 was a golden era for me. I remember for years Johnnie Moore and then LaSalle Thompson being the only Texas players in the NBA. Now there are oodles of them, including one of the best NBA players of all time. I'm also grateful for Chris Beard. He handles all of this in the right way. He makes these things special in the way they should be. He's always saying the right things. I just know he's going to be an amazing success at Texas, because he gets all the little things, as well as being an outstanding basketball coach, and knowing how to attract and surround himself with people who are going to help him win at the highest level. BTW, I know many of you have already read this, but it's such a great essay written by TJ Ford. I feel very fortunate to have him associated with UT. He continues to do groundbreaking work, one of the latest his association with the Clark Collective for NIL purposes. https://www.theplayerstribune.com/articles/tj-ford-i-cant-feel-my-body14 points

In one of these threads I said Texas would be stupid if they weren't pursuing this kid. Glad to see they are on their game. This kid's mom is a friend of my wife and his little sister is my kid's teammate. Pops played for pig but I forgave him already. Mom played bball for Tulsa. He is every bit of 6'5 and is filling out everyday. Smart kid, the kind you want playing here. If his speed stays up as he gains weight he will be a problem. Hope we get him. I will stay in his ear on my side. Hope the coaches close the deal.9 points

All of you fuckers who post here will never agree on a damn thing political that's fine, whatever. The echo chamber here is like texags and gets boring. I am a current owner of 8 rescue animals, 6 cats and 2 dogs. I want to salute Willow. Being a lifelong rescurer of downtrodden cats and dogs, I do submit that large quantities of cats do outweigh large quantities of dogs in the home. I'm pretty sure you all can turn this into a nazi/fascist versus socialist/marxist discussion pretty quickly, but Willow looks like a badass.7 points

There’s not a lot to comment on. If a rumor does pop up, Posobiec is right and if it doesn’t then…Well it was going to happen. There also isn’t a Ukrainian politician around that hasn’t been accused of being Kremlin compromised at one point or another, Zelensky is no exception. So the material is already floating around, and since Klein was going to “leak” that means that even if it’s not tied to him, it’s just evidence of his leaker skills. The Tweet is part of the self-licking ice cream cone that is the alt-lite Twittersphere and isn’t really about Ukraine.7 points

Quite besides the point, but you knew that. You also know that nearly a year ago, Merck issued a statement about it https://www.merck.com/news/merck-statement-on-ivermectin-use-during-the-covid-19-pandemic/ “Merck (NYSE: MRK), known as MSD outside the United States and Canada, today affirmed its position regarding use of ivermectin during the COVID-19 pandemic. Company scientists continue to carefully examine the findings of all available and emerging studies of ivermectin for the treatment of COVID-19 for evidence of efficacy and safety. It is important to note that, to-date, our analysis has identified: No scientific basis for a potential therapeutic effect against COVID-19 from pre-clinical studies; No meaningful evidence for clinical activity or clinical efficacy in patients with COVID-19 disease, and; A concerning lack of safety data in the majority of studies.” So they called bullshit on uses of their own product for those purposes, but that’s…what, ok because any company can make a generic? You do realize that while there are some small differences between name brands and generics, the active ingredients are the same and definitely not different to the point where the name brand is telling you “do not use this drug for that purpose” while the generic can be telling you “no, you can.” And if that wasn’t your contention, I’m not sure what your point is. To repeat, those medications were brought into the mainstream by two major pharmaceutical companies. They are not holistic alternatives to western medicine, and pointing out that generics exists literally does nothing to change that. My whole point with that was to show that wagging the illusory “follow us or you’re just sheeple who just blindly follows Big Pharma” stick and carrot is a stupid person’s idea of a smart thing to say.7 points

sorry, i'll shut up about this watch, but i'm down a rabbit hole and discovered something cool...so the watch was actually produced in september 1970...turns out, for 3 months that fall they had a mis-print on the bezel, instead of 200 on the tachymeter they printed 220. they realized the error quickly and corrected it.6 points

Well, a disappointing duck season near Austin. Only got out to our place a couple of times, including this morning. And had @hayden_horn and his boy with me, hoping to put the boy in his first ducks. Our place is usually a solid draw - maybe not limits, but almost always a few batches of shootable birds. The first hunt, we had a single gad come in late, he circled once and bolted. This morning, a group of wigeon, gave a good circle and I thought they were about to commit, then bolted. And that’s it. No other shots. We got to watch a kingfisher and an egret do their work, so that was cool, but really wanted to put the boy on some birds. And now, we gotta wait till next dove season. Still, at least got the chance to teach the boy to shoot a 12 gauge….and he has a damned solid knack for it. He powdered clays like hell, and he’s itching to get back out there. Which I think is damned cool.6 points

Bravo seems pretty intent on bringing up specific politics to smear Biden or otherwise stir the pot, with those Twitter ‘just asking questions maybe there is something to this’ and I sure hope we can keep it out of CR…glad no one is taking the bait because this thread has been excellent.6 points

Hays County BBQ yesterday. Excellent cue. Brisket off the fat end, 2 pork ribs and the knife on the block guy threw on the burnt ends after meat was taken off the scale (I can’t help it if people like me, my magnetic, charming personality and good looks). Plain white onion and common pickle chips were on point. Creamy tater salad was good. No tortillas. Bottled beer. Big Red soda water on tap.6 points

So why are they asserting that hydroxychloroquine, which is made by Sanofi, and Ivermectin, which is made by Merck, are valid treatments for COVID? I mean you couldn’t have picked two medications that are more Big Pharma than those. Mere skepticism doesn’t drive that kind of idiocy. That’s driven by an overconfidence in an ability they do not actually possess. “Everyone in the CDC is wrong, but I’m not!” Again, it’s not so much the skepticism, it’s their idiotic alternative suggestions. It’s not enough to cast doubt on what mainstream medical communities are recommending. To actually prove they’re wrong, you also have to suggest valid alternatives, and they fail rather spectacularly at that. The whole entire premise behind what they’re saying is the ugly cousin of the God of the gaps fallacy: “I don’t believe science provided by Big Pharma, therefore magic (which again is also attributed to Big Pharma)” And again, I mean no disrespect to you directly, but it’s been my observation that lawyers are the hardest peddlers of this Ivermectin/hydroxychloroquine/anti-vaccine drivel. But regardless of their actual profession, the output is the same: they are cosplaying doctors and medical professionals in general. You cannot justify skepticism with make believe and demand respect for such positions. Science basically works like a game of king of the hill. Something assumes the role of king, and everyone else has the absolute right to, within certain guidelines, knock it off and if they succeed, they’re the new “king” unless and until someone else knocks them off. Much as the Joe Bros want to believe it, Ivermectin and hydroxychloroquine haven’t even come close to knocking off monoclonals. Vaccination has never come close to being knocked of by non-vaccination. You don’t win king of the hill by declaring yourself king from the bottom of the fucking hill.6 points

The problem, and Brisketexan addresses this, is that you're acting like this is all new shit. It isn't, and acting like Joe Biden created this problem while Donald Trump permanently solved this problem is not an argument made in good faith. Last time I saw a Republican (or anyone really) make a good faith attempt was George W, and he was shut down... by Republicans.5 points

Had a moment with the TV on, found A River Runs Through It. I prefer the book to the movie, but not by much. In any case, every time I either read or watch, I get to the end, with maybe the most beautiful prose in American literature. It’s staggering, every time. Figure the fishermen around here will appreciate it again. “Now nearly all those I loved and did not understand when I was young are dead, but I still reach out to them. “Of course, now I am too old to be much of a fisherman, and now of course I usually fish the big waters alone, although some friends think I shouldn’t. Like many fly fisherman in western Montana, where the summer days are almost Arctic in length, I often do not start fishing until the cool of the evening. Then in the Arctic half-light of the canyon, all existence fades to a being with my soul and memories and the sounds of the Big Blackfoot River and a four-count rhythm and the hope that a fish will rise. “Eventually, all things merge into one, and a river runs through it. The river was cut by the world’s great flood and runs over rocks from the basement of time. On some of the rocks are timeless raindrops. Under the rocks are the words, and some of the words are theirs. I am haunted by waters.” Goddamn.5 points

When I was in high school I was working as a stock boy in a local supermarket. Of course Thanksgiving is an insane grocery shopping time and I once had a lady damn near knocked me out over a can of pumpkin. I handled the aisle that had the pumpkin and other vegetables and was literally wheeling carts of it to replenish the shelves but people were buying it faster than I could stock it. There was finally a lull in the action and things slowed down and I actually got caught up. About 15 minutes later I went to check it and of course the shelf was empty except for two cans. There was an old woman about 65 or so that was notorious for being a grouch and everybody avoided her like the plague. She was complaining about needing more canned pumpkin and I told her I'll be right back with it. Man, the last thing I remember was her cussing or saying something and then something hitting me in the back of the head. The damned old b**** hurled a can of pumpkin and nailed me right in the noggin. I was just about to drag myself to the feet and kill an old woman when my dad who managed the supermarket happened to come around the corner and grab me by the back of my belt. After we got her out of the store he walked up and said son I don't blame you for what you were about to do, but I can't afford your bail this close to Christmas.5 points
