  3. My father was a relentlessly self-improving boulangerie owner from Belgium with low-grade narcolepsy and a penchant for buggery. My mother was a fifteen-year-old French prostitute named Chloe with webbed feet. My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. My childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When I was insolent, I was placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds- pretty standard, really. At the age of twelve, I received my first scribe. At the age of fourteen, a Zoroastrian named Vilma ritualistically shaved my testicles. There really is nothing like a shorn scrotum... it's breathtaking- I suggest you try it.

  14. 283.4. I think I’ve dropped below morbidly obese down to merely run of the mill obese. I’m now down 38.6 pounds from my fattest about 7 weeks ago. I’ve probably lost close to 400 pounds in my life (while finding 425 or 450 depending upon the reckoning, but never more than 65 in one go. Nice to be over half way there to that mark. 250 should be the point where none of my current clothes really fit and I’m going to have a bonfire at that point in time. allegedly 8-16 pounds a month post surgery. I’m at 10 or so 5 or so days in. Hope I get at least 25 by the end of March so I will be below 270. Haven’t seen 269 in 11 years.

  30. I've been thinking about this quote from Dr. Zhivago a lot over the last year - "Gen. Yevgraf Zhivago: [narrating; on World War I] By the second winter, the boots had worn out... but the line still held. Even Comrade Lenin underestimated both the anguish of that 900-mile long front... as well our own cursed capacity for suffering. Half the men went into action without any arms... irregular rations... led by officers they didn't trust. Officer: [to soldiers] Come on, you bastards! Gen. Yevgraf Zhivago: And those they did trust... Pasha: [leaps out of the trench and begins leading his men in a charge] Come on, Comrades! Forward, comrades! Earth-shakers! [an artillery shell explodes in front of him; he falls to the ground, and the soldiers retreat to their trench] Gen. Yevgraf Zhivago: Finally, when they could stand it no longer, they began doing what every army dreams of doing... [the soldiers begin to leave their trenches] Gen. Yevgraf Zhivago: They began to go home. That was the beginning of the Revolution." That tweet about not having enough people survive to pass on lessons reminds me of what happened to the officers, like Pasha, that the men trusted in that quote. I keep hoping the Russian soldiers will do what they did in WWI and say fuck this, kill any officers that try to stop them, and just go home.

  31. Initially in WWII the Germans had 1,449 Panzer III tanks ready for combat, about 950 of which were versions equipped with the 50 mm L/42 gun, which constituted the Wehrmacht's main tank force. Russia has likely lost more than 2,000 tanks in its war in Ukraine, more than half of its operational tank fleet, according to estimates released Wednesday from the International Institute for Strategic Studies.

  36. I’ve been trying to figure out a way to video our gigs to be able to watch and see what stupid shit I’m doing that I’m not aware of that I need to stop doing. I also want it to sound good if possible. The sound quality from cell phone videos always blows. So I got this zoom camera with a supposedly decent mic built in and a micro sd card that can hold several hours of video, depending on resolution. Here’s the first test clip from the other night. For some reason the batteries only lasted 7 min so have to figure that out. It’s horrifying watching this shit but I welcome any and all criticisms. That’s the point of this exercise. https://www.dropbox.com/s/l9ufogxytf264op/2023.02.24%20WD.MOV?dl=0 Many kinks on the video logistics to be worked out but for a complete first pass, I was generally pleased with the quality of the video and sound (much better on computer speakers than phone speakers).

  38. It was stated early on in this thread and with the invasion. Ukraine has large untapped oil and gas fields that could equal the size of Russia’s known reserves. They are located in the East near the Donbas and Luhansk regions, in the west near Transnistria, and (I know this will shock everyone) off shore in the Black Sea and the country that owns Crimea is the country with the right to those underwater reserves. They were being developed and researched by Western companies until the Crimean invasion and the Donbas “insurrection”. How ironic that it is these three regions right! Total coincidence.
