I’ve watched college football a long time, and every single national title game has a touchdown caught by a dude that looks exactly like this.34 points

I'm calling this on myself ... Came in last night, 20+ pages behind here, and haven't looked at Titan since Friday night. This year, I took the steering wheel on our Family Reunion, a celebration of a Land Grant family from the Crown of Spain in the 1750's. Yesterday, the 2023 Edition, 300+ relatives, 20 briskets & 150 lbs of Elgin Sausage. Nailed it, with the guidance and effort of a lot of people. Happy for my 93 year old mother, and her siblings and cousins. Proud of our long history of Service & Family. For me, Volodymyr Zelensky has surpassed Winston Churchill as my favorite human in history; for the way he led us, not just the US us, but the entire free world us, by standing up to aggression and fighting, against the odds. He is by no means the first, but damn if his 'nads don't get bigger every time you see him. Agree 100%. This board know's it. The world will realize it in the months ands years to come. The ripples will reach far and wide, and for a long time. Gotta give Ol' Joe President Biden a ton of credit. He showed his Leadership of the Free World by herding a bunch of misguided cats (Dem's & Rep's) and got them to agree to turn the ship in the right direction. Starting with simply sharing information with everybody, allowing each of them to make their own judgements about right and wrong. Who woulda thunk that being open and honest might work? “Thank you for coming,” - Zelensky “More importantly, how are the children?” - Biden The humanity of Joe Biden, resonates with every decent man, woman & child in the world. Witnessing the compilation of karma and Darwinism and Fuck Around & Find Out displayed by Russia and Titan, and the Surly catalyst of unharnessing the collective knowledge, understanding, insight and humor of the many contributors, is the most rewarding and enjoyable reading of my not so young life. Well done. TLDR My Grandmother's family, one of 8 families at the reunion. Mom w/ the long white hair in the middle.32 points

Some more scatter-shot thoughts. I again reiterate a lot of caution as we try to figure out what this means for the future and what actually happened. That said, a couple of ideas that require taking some things at face value: - Lack of decisive response from RuAF and especially VVS reveal Putin retains firm grasp on RuAF command and that Shoigu/Gerasimov willing to let Putin bargain over their fate as a column of mercenaries roll toward Moscow. Either no order came or the commanders in the field ignored it. - Lots of clowning on Chechens, but they never intended to fight. Notable that Kadyrov “announced” that he was coming and not that he was directed to. This is signaling to potential rivals, and to Russians. Kadyrov can deploy Chechens into Russia, they listen to him. This time it was in support of Putin, but it doesn’t have to be. Putin is unlikely to be thrilled at one of his main power bases being an unreliable Chechen who is deeply loathed personally and as part of a hated ethnic group by mainstream society. - If this was just a gangland style turf war, Putin is still “capo di capo.” But he emerges greatly embarrassed at the open disorder. His legitimacy for ordinary Russians has long depended on providing stability and prosperity and not 1990s chaos. Yesterday’s demonstration was 1990s on chaos. Putin is comfortable managing competing rival elites, that’s his model. His greatest fear remains popular discontent. Expect reinvigorated and more open repressive measures internally. - Ukraine is more important to him now and not less. Paradoxically he may prefer his army outside of his border. A lost war, soldiers coming home, and popular resentment ARE what 1917 is made of. He will double down with less regard for lives of his own soldiers or Ukrainians.19 points

I am really fucking bummed and sad about Terry Price. Whatever you thought about his barbecue, he could recruit the hell out of the DL. He was a good person who connected with kids and seemed like the one person on staff who just liked who he was and liked his job and football. I hope his family has come closure through good memories of him. Gig ‘em Coach Price. Here.16 points

Ya know, im on some BS SEC fb group. They were bagging on Texas for rolling out all the exotic cars for recuits last weekend. And then when i pointed out what Bijan and Ewers were driving, they didnt wanna hear it. I asked them about what dealerships were in their respective SEC college cities, they had that stupid Pikachu face. Yes, we have 250k cars. Yes we gonna put our players in these cars. No. You can't compete with that. Fuck off and take tge loss pussies!15 points

Maybe already posted, but he was up 36hrs straight, so what's his Surly handle I went to bed after those crazy news and 36h being straight awake. Even though I referenced that this is a possibility (see this retweet), it was certainly not what I expected later on. Prigozhin fooled every one, but I remain steadfast that he crossed the Rubicon, even though Putin was kept alive, for now. The deal is also one-sided and certainly not pre-arranged, except in Prigozhin’s head, who came out with the upper hand. At least for now. There is no chance in hell that there will be business as usual. Especially not for Putin who in all of this was exposed as a lame duck. He clearly lost control and for now survived because some external factors decided it to be this way. But he is not the all dominant person in Russia any more and maybe this was the plan because the system was kept alive, while he has weakened. Putin’s fall likely would have would have caused a change of the system altogether and like I said, Prigozhin wants to inherit it and not destroy it. What is the really frustrating part of all of this is the fact that the war will not end these day. Everyone on any side could have walked home and the dying would have ended from one day to the other. Under these circumstances this is not going to happen and many people will die the coming weeks. A senseless death which won’t change the overall outcome of the war. It reminds me of the failed Hitler assassination of 20th July 1944. The war for Germany was clearly lost, but it took another year and millions of more lives which could have been saved when the devil would have been killed this day. It also showed that support for Ukraine is vital for our interest. It must be ramped up with no limits and hesitation. Give them everything what is needed to finally end this war. While Putin secured another day to breath air even as a lame duck the whole episode showed us another constant in this Russia. Cynicism and nihilism You can be a traitor in the morning and pardoned in the evening, even when you kill a range of Russian soldier, the very few who held the line while the rest of the army disappeared into nowhere. And yes, I stand by what I said yesterday because it was fact. There was no more Russian army. The command structure was inexistent, by design, because this is exactly what defines cynicism and nihilism. There is no protocol, ideology or even honor, there is only survival and in this process people can turn from your friends to your enemies and vice versa, whatever helps the situation at the moment. You as an individual do not exist and when you perish it is all your fault for making the wrong decisions at the wrong time, just like those 6 Russian pilots who were blown out of the skies over their own home homeland. Far worse is situation for the non-ethnic Russian population, when it comes being cannon-foddered, because they are welcome scapegoat for all the hardships for living in such conditions. When Wagner was rolling through the Russian oblasts yesterday trying to locate Shoigu, Pro-Wagner channels were excessively using ethnic slurs, pointing out his Tuvan heritage. It was not about Shoigu’s incompetency, which is all over the place. He as Tuvan was their scapegoat of their failed system. It was exactly this racial undertone which drove them, especially when they talked about “genocide against the Russian people”. When reflecting that minorities are making the brunt of losses of the Russian army, it paraphrases that shameless lies all but shameless to them. This is why the countries which were formerly under control by the Kremlin fought for their freedom and independence and achieved at least separation. Some succeeded even more and gained relative peace, as we saw with the Baltics. Some have been caught in new nightmares as we see in some Turkic states. Others were caught somewhere in between and Ukraine was one of them. A state with a history full of tragedies and again under threat being vassal, but this time by one of their own. And this is when the Maidan in 2014 took place. Ukrainians have endured every foreign atrocity and where not willing to accept the atrocity by one of their own. This was an affront against a dictator like Putin whose very system can only survive in this atmosphere and it could not stand in the Kremlin’s eyes. This is the only reason why this war exists. Some call it a fight democracy vs. autocracy, but for me it is a fight for law vs. arbitrariness. This is why I from time to time quote the 2nd US President, John Adams: “A republic of laws, not men.” What we saw yesterday in Russia was the travesty from which laws should protect us, because when people can decide the faith of millions based on a whim, then terror is the only result. I for one will not stop to continue my struggle for freedom for anyone, anywhere. The possibility why I can do this today was granted by people who did this for me, before I was even born. It is a gift I can never be too thankful. I will continue this fight so that our children can live to do the same. This is our duty as freedom-loving people who have freedom and liberty handed over. We have to draw the line so that nihilism and cynicism cannot get hold of us and we can and will achieve this for as long as we do not stop pursuing this goal.12 points

I'm sort of surprised I haven't seen this mentioned around much, but Putin is going to do what every dictator does when they get scared; he's going to start killing people, a lot of them. He has to reestablish fear if he is to maintain his position (and his life). In order to do so, there will be a wave of death and it will be public and brutal. If he takes it too far, then maybe it comes at him like a whirlwind, but make no mistake, he's going to start killing lots of people. I sure as hell wouldn't want to be in the FSB right now.11 points

Some possible outcomes of yesterday's events: 1. In Wagner PMC, a split has reportedly started between those who felt used and those who remained loyal to Prigozhin after the failed rebellion. 2. Combat pilots reportedly quit Wagner PMC due to their disagreement with the way planes and helicopters of the Russian Aerospace Forces were destroyed yesterday. 3. A vertical of power has collapsed. No one in Russia can feel safe anymore. Neither officials, nor oligarchs, nor FSB officers who used to think they were the rulers of life. Putin stopped holding a monopoly on violence in Russia yesterday. It was proven that factions with more weapons and determination decide everything. 4. Russia might be facing a bloody war, not a civil war, but a war of clans, armed groups and private armies: Chechens, Prigozhin's supporters, armed mercenaries, who will separate from Prigozhin or other PMCs and be hired by local clans for protection from invading outsiders. All large business and oligarchs will probably create (if they haven't already) private armies, as Gazprom has already done to protect itself. Conflicts and redistribution of property will be resolved by force. It will be the new 90s but far worse - Resembling the Mad Max style and genre of an anti-utopia action movie. 5. The Russian army, it seems, has de facto ceased to exist as a united structure. Soldiers and officers sitting in trenches in the massacre unleashed by Putin, probably finally realized yesterday the utter pointlessness of the war against Ukraine, against the background of the fact that a group of criminals in the rear can pass 600km in a day, sweeping away everything in their path and then be amnestied after killing pilots and civilians. 6. Ukraine is a few steps closer to fully restoring its territorial integrity, including Crimea. 7. What a pity that this circus did not end with the self-destruction of Putin's regime and Prigozhin faction. But I believe it will happen again with even larger scale!11 points

@Eastwood has a good post. I just want to add as someone who in recent years has become more of a Central Europe guy with a necessary interest in Russia— we talk about the “wall falling” as shorthand for the collapse of Soviet Empire in Europe. But it’s more appropriate to use the active voice and talk about how Poles, Czechs, Slovaks, Romanians, Hungarians, Estonians, Latvians, Lithuanians and others tore down the Iron Curtain and later the USSR. Nations and individuals took control of their destiny. Some have made better and some worse choices but at the end of the 20th century— they made their own choices. And that’s missing in Russia now.11 points

This off-season there’s been a bunch of talk of this being the most talented and deep Texas team since the prime Mack years. However, with a little luck and some wins in the fall this class could easily end up top 3 or even number 1. My point is that the table is set nicely for us to take off as a program again. It seems like Texas is the “cool” school with a “cool” coach and now has a well established culture to match. Every offseason has some hype but I can’t recall the last time there was this much optimism surrounding the program. I’m trying so hard not to be led astray by the kool aid but this just feels like the beginning of something special.11 points
