  1. Those are rankings for all FBS schools. Wisconsin is the only non-SEC team in the top 15, because they play Alabama in Tuscaloosa this year.
  2. SoS rankings for 2025: Florida Vanderbilt Oklahoma Texas Arkansas Mississippi State Kentucky Georgia Texas A&M Alabama Louisiana State Wisconsin South Carolina Auburn Tennessee

  4. *Tours. High water mark of the Umayyad caliphate's expansionary efforts.
  5. Nobis was already the best player on the team as a sophomore in 1963. This was a team that featured Scott Appleton, the Outland Trophy winner, UPI Lineman of the Year and a Unanimous All-American at defensive tackle. Royal gave an interview in which he said Nobis would stuff Appleton in one-on-one drills during practice.
  6. Jerry Gray and Michael Huff are locks. Beyond that it gets hazy. You can go as recent as Jahdae Barron, or all the way back to Johnnie Johnson and Raymond Clayborn for options.
  7. Elliot inherited a program that had already won two national titles and multiple conference championships. Conradt inherited a club-level squad that had never been ranked and never won a championship of any kind, and was a couple of years removed from playing its games in the Gregory Gym annex. She built women's basketball from the ground up at Texas in the wake of Title IX.
  8. You can't really compare a player's career to a coach's career. Coaches should have their own list. For Texas that's probably Royal, Augie, Jody Conradt and Eddie Reese.
  9. Our Rushmore is pretty set in stone with Nobis, Earl, Ricky and VY.

  14. LOL. I don't need ChatGPT of all things to remember the Joseph-Jones debacle. The dude they robbed posts on Surly. @LebongJames The sad part is that while the other guys (Kindle, Melton, Gatewood and Henry) got their lives back together, Andre Jones never did. He died of a drug overdose in an El Paso motel at age 24.

  17. AD had injury issues after that freshman year. But he aced the "eye test" to a ridiculous degree. He grew up a Longhorns fan but that fucking 65-13 game ruined our chances for him, plus the depth chart situation helped them with Works leaving blOU and Benson staying at UT. Stoops also visited his dad in prison, then got the warden to ban other coaches from doing the same.
  18. It was the string of arrests in '07. We had six players arrested in just four months - Robert Joseph, Andre Jones, James Henry, Sergio Kindle, Henry Melton and Tyrell Gatewood. Plus Billy Pittman got suspended for something compliance related. Brown had to apologize to the UT admin and put a 'zero tolerance' policy in place. His recruiting went downhill from there.

  20. You can sugarcoat anything if you strip it of context. The bottom line is we got knocked out of our own regional for the first time since 2006, by a team with vastly less talent than us (even with our injuries). UTSA trotted out a pitcher with a 7.85 ERA and we scored just one run against him in six innings. UTSA took the lead in the first inning and we never came close to threatening them despite it being a must-win game. We hit a miserable .198 with RISP during the entire regional. And in the first loss to UTSA we blew a 6-1 lead with multiple fielding errors by Flores and Gasparino, who both played horribly all weekend but never saw the bench. Three of UTSA's runs were unearned in a game they won by two. This wasn't some heroic underdog story where we fell just short despite giving it our best. We basically invited UTSA to kick us out of the tournament and they obliged. We played horrendously in all three phases and lost a very winnable game. Spencer and Schuessler are gone next year, and we're probably losing Belyeu, Galvan and Borba to the draft. Next year's team is going to have its struggles.
