  4. Sark, Banks and Brandon Harris identify the big targets for the assistants to pursue. It became a source of friction with Kenny Baker (who had his own DL targets he wanted to pursue) the previous cycle.
  5. Under Fred Akers: 1982: 10-1-1, Cotton Bowl champions, No. 2 ranking 1983: 11-1, SWC champions, No. 5 ranking 1984: 7-4-1, plummeted from No. 1 to unranked Under Steve Sarkisian: 2023: 12-2, Big 12 champions, No. 3 ranking 2024: 13-3, Peach Bowl champions, No. 4 ranking 2025: 3-2 so far, plummeted from No. 1 to unranked I think we're going to look back on the 2023 and 2024 seasons as the high-water mark of Sark's tenure at Texas, just as the 1981 and 1983 seasons were the peak of Fred Akers' tenure here. In fact, so far this year is looking very similar to our 1984 season, when we plummeted from the No. 1 ranking to unranked by season's end with a 7-4-1 record. Maybe some of the old-timers on Surly can speak to what caused such a big dropoff back then, because it sure seems to be happening again. Presumably the culprit was poor recruiting and long-term planning.
  6. Wasn't Neal Brown hired as an analyst in the offseason to fix our redzone issues? Did he just fall off the face of the Earth or what?
  7. We desperately need 1) fewer penalties, 2) Arch throwing the ball on time, and 3) more 3rd down conversions. I know better than to expect our horrendous O-line to improve before the end of the season (thanks to the Strong and Herman years) but cleaning up the smaller things would go a long way towards giving ourselves a chance to win this week. Reminder; it's been 16 years since we've defeated blOU in back-to-back seasons. If we lose this Saturday, blOU is just 12 games away from evening up the all-time head-to-head in the rivalry (down from 20 games away at the start of the century).
  8. The last time I saw such such embarrassing tackling and pursuit angles was at the Cotton Bowl four years ago...
  9. Are we still doing this nonsense? Just because every other offensive unit had serious problems against Florida doesn't mean Arch doesn't still have problems. He threw two interceptions from clean pockets and threw what should have been a third by screwing up a simple RPO. He also had a meltdown on the game's final drive, eating TWO sacks in a situation when everyone on the field and at home knew we could not afford to give up even one.
  10. Joe Cook: Texas' most staggering deficiency is the inability to run against like talent Evan Vieth: Key Statistical Takeaways from Texas’ 29-21 Loss to Florida (RT Young) The Reheat: The Gators chomp Texas into crisis Grace Raynor: Preseason No. 1 Texas has no identity, a struggling Arch Manning and a tough road ahead
  11. I hope not, because this is the exact same nonsense Charlie Weis did at Notre Dame and it backfired spectacularly for them during the regular season.
  12. (Scipio Tex) 2025 Florida Gators Post Mortem: Offense
  13. This is the exact same excuse A&M fans used after the 2022 season. "It was a super young team!!1!" Jimbo lasted just ten more games.
  14. (Scipio Tex) 2025 Florida Gators Post Mortem: Defense/Special Teams
  15. Oregon's current starting RT is a transfer from Texas State as well. They clearly did a much better job of self-scouting their O-line and addressing its weaknesses than we did.
  16. (Ian Boyd) Five quick thoughts: The Longhorns get gator-rolled in the Swamp
  17. (Gerald Goodridge) Florida 29, No. 9 Texas 21: Three things we learned Ralph Russo: Gators wreak havoc on Arch Manning to down No. 9 Longhorns 29-21
  18. this sounds familiar, and not in a good way
  19. So did Manning actually improve, or did every other position on the team regress so badly it made Manning’s struggles stand out less and give the illusion of improvement? He still missed open WRs. He still displayed terrible game IQ on the last clutch drive. Can you point to one concrete issue with his game that he's fixed? Or are we just seeing him run for his life behind a dismal O-line and reflexively thinking "he'd be good with better protection" even though we've SEEN him struggle badly with better protection earlier in the year? Arch wasn't the main reason we lost today, sure. But that doesn't necessarily mean he's improved. Just that other position groups sucked worse.
  20. So far. Lots of season left, against much better teams.
  21. They barely threw the fucking ball all drive.
  22. What the fuck are our LBs doing
