    Dumb question amnesty requested.

Going on 3 day trip to Big Bend with work buddies. Will have some downtime/ book readin/ bourbon sippin time but also some socialization and most likely opportunities for sharing said bottle.  If i take one bottle in that situation, what would you recommend for sharing with folks who are possibly a bit more casual in the approach to libations?  My gut said take a EC or Buffalo Trace and call it good, but possibly a JD single barrel or Still Austin?  Ultimately, just take what I want to drink and might be willing to share, right?

    or just take 2 bottles...

I suggest JD Coy Hill 153.2 proof.  That’s how you find out who your true friends are.  Well maybe not.  I agree you can’t go wrong with OF 1920.  But I you take the Coy Hill we’re going to need a detailed recap of the events.

  2. Random question.  The last two Weller FP’s I’ve gotten have been SPs and every time I see one posted they are SPs.  Is there a reason there are only SPs available of Weller FB?  Not seeing that with other Weller products.

Two of these are at least defensible takes but the OU thing is impossible to take seriously, and that's coming from someone who probably expects more out of them next year than most on this site. I hope he is just being heavy handed in trying to manage expectations. Otherwise, uh, wow.

I’ve always been a fan of talking up the other team in public but have the team thinking they will destroy them.  Lou Holtz was a master at this.

I wish the media would have asked what "broken hand essentially" meant

I’m old but I guess broken hand is some sorta slang meaning can’t see shit. Anyway last year is in the past and I’m still a fan and hope he kills it this year.  Might I suggest an Optometrist.

The Longhorn part of me wishes he stayed another year, got Ricky thick and won the Heisman.

But the businessman side of me says, you avoided a lot of pounding this last year. While NIL dollars would have been good for sure, better to get the contract clicking years towards free agency.  Looks like nearly everyone looking at him is not expecting him to come in and carry the load.  So hopefully avoiding another year of heavy pounding.   The type of young man he is will make him an asset to any team's locker room, and his talents are going to get more notice as time goes on. Assuming he stays healthy he will cash in big time the next contract.

I saw one projection having him go to the Cowboys, but I don't wish him a long tenure under Jerry.  No matter where he goes the kid is a flat out baller and hard worker that is diligent about his profession.  So fans of some lucky team are gonna get not only a hell of a player, but a great face for the team to promote off the field.  I think that over time you are going to see Bijan in a lot of commercials, and that he will be very impactful off the field via charity work.

Some team is gonna get luckier than they even know!

The only way I could ever root for Dallas is if Bijan is part of that team.

I want you all to know that Bijan last night was as fine as a representative of the University of Texas as I’ve ever seen…this coming from someone who has an inherent bias against all things UT. :)

After listening to him talk last night, and listening to others talk about him, I walked away with so much admiration for this young man and a jealousy of UT for having him be one of your student-athletes.

From the charity he started while a student at UT, to his faith, to his long term plans and just simple joy for life, I was just so grateful to have that opportunity to learn so much more about him.

And his grandfather, who Bijan considers his only real father and calls him dad, is just as impressive and cool.  PAC 10 football official while Bijan was growing up, he was just an absolutely incredible mentor and guide for this young man to emulate.

Funny story- his mom has kept everything he has ever broken around the house playing football so that if he ever made it to the nfl, he can reimburse her for all the damages.  Got the second biggest laugh of the evening.

Just wanted to share.  What a special person.  You all were truly blessed to have him be a part of your university family. I am a big fan.

Now I need to go order some of his mustard.

Yeah his momma did a great job but his grandfather deserves a ton of credit as well.  If I had a daughter I would hope she could meet someone like Bijan.  He definitely walks the walk.

My view is that we've crossed a line such that proximity/access to the product is now a bigger focus than the product itself. Or at least that's true for many. People just want to rack up fictional "equity" for being in the general atmosphere of rare products more than they want to drink high quality product that is readily available. And look, I'm not at all butt hurt that I don't have access to bottle XYZ. I bought (at MSRP) and killed the Van Winkle 23 "Family Selection" that went for $50k in a charity auction last year. It was unquestionably phenomenal. But it didn't grant me any special powers, and it didn't redefine what good whiskey is for me either.

This whole bourbon explosion is just another symptom of how pervasive FOMO is in our culture. People inherently want that which they cannot have, but the truth is that those rare bottles of whiskey are just an exercise in the optimization of the final 1-2%. It'd be great if the product in the glass was the focus, but I'm not naive enough to believe that we're ever getting back to that point.

I’m collecting bottles for the apocalypse. I may not have food but I’ll be damned if I run out of good whiskey.

    Buffalo Trace 1.75l $45.99
    Weller Special Reserve 750ml $24.99

These seem like excellent prices to me. Am I off base?

Nothing wrong with those prices if you ask me.

Officials  are going to screw us bad this season.   There will be some Okie State 2015/2022  like crap I’m certain in at least one game. Especially if it’s a game where we find ourselves on a roll and real possibility to make the Big 12 title game.

Imagine a whole season of Grant Teaff Baylor final games.
