Live Bullet was released 48 years ago today.  I wore that record out.  Here's my favorite song on it. The ultimate get out on the highway and sing at the top of your lungs song.

In my mind, the ultimate is “Radar Love.”  But this is a strong contender.  Do we have a thread on ultimate driving songs?  Perhaps we should.  And don’t sleep on “Kathmandu” by Bob…………..

Charlie Watts was the most proficient musician in the Rolling Stones by miles.  Mick Taylor is a more technically proficient guitar player than Keith.  And the Stones keep rolling because, in the end, it's Mick and Keith.

No argument.  Charley was exemplary.  Ronnie was hired because he was Keef 2.0 and could handle Keef’s “guitar weaving” approach.  Keef has plenty of tricks, but he’s not a particularly guitar proficient-what he has is an ear to keep things moving-while Mick does what he does-just being the world’s greatest front man in the world’s greatest RnR band.

  4. Just back from a 1 day nilgai hunt on the King Ranch; had lunch at Tucker’s BBQ in Raymondville on Friday.   Bark cut off the brisket!  Tasted like it was cooked too fast, too hot.  Potato salad just meh. Broccoli “slaw” was interesting and pretty good.  Do not recommend this place-Whataburger is less than a block away.

    Reminiscing…..

About 30 years ago at a local outdoor gun range that had very few patrons that morning, I saw a lady doing her handgun qualifying shooting for her concealed carry license - with the instructor observing of course.
She did very well from what I could see and handled her semiauto pistol proficiently.
When they were finished, the instructor began giving firing lessons to the lady's blind husband who was in a wheelchair.
The husband knew how to handle the gun properly & load it without assistance.
When he was ready to shoot, the instructor gave him verbal commands for direction and elevation, then when to commence firing at the target 10 yards down range.
It appeared the blind gentleman hit paper perhaps half the time with the first magazine, then improved to about 3/4 on target with the next two.
Then the wife took her turn "spotting" for her husband with the same results.
A very interesting scene, IMO, and it was obvious the couple were not complete newbies to firearms.
It appeared the session was satisfying and enjoyable to all involved.

I assume the wife passed the CHL course to receive her license to carry from the state of Texas.

I had a guitar teacher many years ago that was completely blind since birth; a piano tuner, too.  He kept an (illegally short) 12 gauge next to the bed.  Needless to say, his hearing was perfect.  I wouldn’t bet against him for those first 2 rounds………

Have celebrities gotten into the bourbon game yet? I've been getting into tequila (see the other thread) and holy shit, half of the new ones are owned by celebrities and marketed through social media. Saw one at the liquor store yesterday I hadn't heard of, googled it, and it's owned by Kendall fucking Jenner. JFC.

What's funny is they tend to very much downplay it on the packaging. Unless you do some serious research, or are active on SM (I'm not), you'd never know in most cases. If I were a more cynical guy, I'd say it's almost like they're trying to fool people who are just browsing the liquor store and not directed to their product by an Instagram post.

I’ve drunk McM’s Longbranch (Wild Turkey) and it was quite palatable, but I’ve been a Wild Turkey drinker for 50 years.  I saw Bob Dylan’s “Heaven’s Door” yesterday in a store, but decided I’d be embarrassed to actually buy it.  Love the song, though.  Any reviews by Surly?

You are going to be underwhelmed by Glenwood Springs. Not much there other than a giant pool that is full of people.  Better to drive < 1 hour south to Aspen and enjoy the food, drink, and scenery.  If Aspen is too far out of the way, you can stay in Vail village.

This.  Glenwood Springs is a 2-3 hour visit.  Depending on your interests, Santa Fe is a 1 day visit on your tight schedule.  I’d stay at La Fonda (my oldest was probably conceived there) and then head to Taos for the day.  Taos is the real Southwest, where Indian, Hispanic, and Anglo cultures meld and clash-it’s an edgy, vibrant place.  Stay at the Taos Inn.

Moss berg/Abilene. Ended up paying royalties to Roger for using their transfer bar technology.  Had 1 in .357; heavy, smooth, accurate.  May have had another name or 2 before they disappeared.

Should have read on before commenting!  The designer of the Mikkenger was supposedly an engineer (with TI, maybe) and the guns were essentially hand-built.  Only one I’ve ever seen is a permanent fixture on some guy’s table at the F’burg and Kerrville gun shows.  It’s a 7 1/2” .44 Mag.  Beautifully built, probably only of interest to a collector of esoteric single actions, especially at the asking price-about like a Freedom Arms 83 in price.  The gun show guy was a coworker and friend of the designer and claims fewer than 200 were built.  Cool revolver.

    I’m misplacing / losing a lot of things lately…

My umbrella a few weeks ago. It seems like I’m looking for my AirPods every other day. I’ve lost 2 small pocket knives, and I’ve been looking for my car key since yesterday…

Some of it is just carelessness, but something something Alzheimer’s.

Oh, it’s not Alzheimer’s if you misplace your car key; OTOH, if you can’t remember what a car key is for………………..

I hope your doc drew blood to check your electrolytes while you were there.  Extreme high or low levels of things like magnesium, potassium or calcium can have, how should I put this, less than ideal effects on your heart.

Too much potassium is bad-arrhythmias, etc.  Too much magnesium = colonoscopy prep, you mostly just blow it out.  I take 1200 mg per day.  Magnesium serum levels are essentially useless unless you’re a pregnant female or at end of life. Calcium high is problematic, keep your vitamin D up.  No idea on hibiscus powder, offhand it sounds like another açaí berry marketing scam to me.  Maybe not, data is inconsistent.  Take it easy on the potassium, 99mg = 1 mEq per day, listen to your doc on that.

  14. My sister and I regularly email each other tuna casserole recipes, since we’ve both sworn we’ll go into armed robbery before ever eating that shit again.  My grandmother scrounged hand-me-downs in her small Panhandle town to send us-we survived.  Gives one a certain perspective.

We were in bed by 10:30 last night and fell asleep a little after 11.
This morning Mrs. Brat woke up at 6:30 in a cold sweat - temperature was 93.6 - four or five degrees below her normal.
Very lethargic and moving slowly, so I have her drinking Gatorade electrolytes and eating some chocolate candy.
She is now dressed, sitting under a blanket on the sofa, and appears to be dozing off a bit.
    She says she feels better.

She has gotten in this near catatonic state three times since last year.

That is a very concerning presentation. Hypoglycemia?  Start simple-is she eating wisely?  Is she diabetic?  On blood sugar lowering meds?  Hope you get this figured out soon-scary!

Aw, c’mon ‘Stache.   She’s not that ugly, although the deep plow nose is a little disturbing.  More like an aggy 9.5.  Why is an OSU Cowboy rating women, anyway?  Did you notice how hard the camera guys were working last night to put up acceptable fans?  Yes, OSU won that contest, too,  congrats,

Thankfully, this wasn’t something that any aggy had any fucking thing to do with the issue.

    Hook ‘em!

I have Cigars and Whisk(e)y night every Wednesday night with 5 aggy (what can I say? It’s a tiny town, and I seldom buy-). Your posts to this thread have provided endless entertainment and useful knowledge; hell, they never know why I’m laughing.  Onward to full recovery, get well soon!

  18. Probably the shrimper I met when he came up to my fishing partner and I to cadge a beer poolside at some skeezy motel in Aransas Pass.  Grabbed my hands, looked ‘em over, and said i obviously didn’t work hard because they weren’t as calloused and scarred as his.  Then offered to sell us a pound of weed, fresh off the boat.  Then invited us into the hot tub, since it was getting dark.  Uh, no man.  We’re getting up early to go fishing, so time for us to hit the hay………..

Took the 30 day return policy from Harley Benton to send back the HSH as the value proposition wasn't great factoring in the need for all new electronics.  Am now taking a flier on one of their Cabronita style tele's with filtertrons.  I hope this is as playable, but a bit better sounding.  If pickups need to be replaced, should be a bit cheaper replacing 2vs3.  We'll see!

I want a Cabronita, but not the reverse headstock, thanks.  Even a Cabronita snakehead would suit me better-talk about a strange guitar!

I hate the Aggies. If my kid got a ride to be an Aggie athlete I’d be there. I’d wear her jersey or similar. My kid comes first. I hate the eagles. Kid gets drafted by Philly I’m there in an eagles jersey.

That’s bullshit.  When my daughter decided she needed/wanted an MBA, I’d pay for it anywhere she could get in, except aggy.  No how, no way, never.  Wisely, she didn’t bother to apply at Baghdad on the Brazos.
