Because I’m a long haired hipster I have a few pair of Red Wings including the ropers and some Iron Rangers.  The ropers are 10 years old, have been to hell and back and are my favorite boots of all time.  I can beat the piss out of them chopping wood or working on the lease and then hit them with saddle soap and bring them back to life.

You won’t regret them for the price even though I think those traction tred soles are kinda ugly. If you really want to go big get some Viberg hikers.

Looks like the Red Wing #1155 Pecos. Wearing mine as we type…….comfy as bedroom slippers (with inserts for my high arches.). Tough going as nails, and very low-key ranch/oilfield boots;  they drive my wife crazy with no toe stitching, so I wear ‘em as often as possible-

LSU is not now and never was in any financial difficulty. Louisiana’s idiot Governor was using LSU’s State Funding as a hypothetical situation to attempt to get his Liberal funding agenda though the State Legislature. Truth is that LSU receives only 13% of its’ annual funding from the State. The rest is from Private and self generated sources. Regarding Athletics, LSU’s Athletic Department is 100% self generated and by State Law cannot use any money provided by the State for Athletics. As a matter of fact, LSU Athletics contributes 10 million dollars a year back to the Academic side.

LSU has plenty of money and deep pockets.

I sort of hate to send up the @RandolphDuke bat signal, but can this be true?  LSU athletics “gives back” $10,000,000 to the academic side each year?

We went there all the time when driving through to visit family. But we never got bbq there. The fried chicken was damn good

Brownwood has been a BBQ desert for at least 30 years.  Overcooked, dry, and stringy is the Brownwood way.  If you have to eat there, go downtown to The Turtle (no ‘cue) or drive to Coleman and eat pizza at the place downtown.  I fondly remember the Underwood’s of my youth in Wichita Falls, Brownwood and Lubbock-now, just say no.  Yet the place is usually busy……..

Mmmmmm, a pot of hot, melted pimento.  That is beyond fucked up.  Not to pick on your family, there are so many other vulgar foods mentioned on this thread.

Why does it seem like the hardest core "America is the Best" folks seem to royally fuck up the 2nd most American Holiday---Thanksgiving (after Independence Day)?

I'm actually looking forward to Thanksgiving dinner, my MIL is cooking and she does a wonderful, traditional spread.  But i know one of my sisters-in-law is gonna try and get cute and do something original on her own.  And we'll have to eat it and pretend it's awesome.  She can't help herself.  And she can't cook for shit.

I could take the edge off a shitty side-dish if there was alcohol to drink, but alas...  They're not dry, they just don't like to spend the money on booze.  If somebody else is paying, they're all oenophiles.  But if I show up in Fort Worth with some wine, my wife will give me shit.  I don't understand where they think alcohol comes from when they see it outside of a store.  There's no booze fairies that just drop bottles off at random locations, I checked.  Somebody, somewhere, at some point---has to give money to the store in exchange for the hooch.  When they see it, and nobody asks for money, they drink it.  But if they find out someone they know paid for it, they get all weird about it and don't want it.  It's a strange system.

I’ve carried a hip pocket flask (or two) to family events for years…high proof Smirnoff is workable.

Flight for Texas leaves at 10 AM on Wednesday. Maypearl mafia just informed me that, due to rising grocery cost, they have decided to make this years Thanksgiving a "POT LUCK", and want to know if I can bring a Turkey or Ham. I am  boarding an airplane to be a part of this shit show, and now I am supposed to find a fully prepared 20 lb Turkey or Ham on the day before fucking Thanksgiving to feed these fat hillbilly bastards. I swear to all that is holy, this is the last one of these shit shows I attend.

Order a Popeye’s turkey now, pick it up on the way out of Dallas; also a bottle  of Tabasco or Crystal. Pour entire bottle of hot sauce over turkey in bag to enhance marinade.  Leave the leftovers with them…….

I’m dropping a rage on anyone who puts disgusting cocktail onions in their martini. What an abomination. Turrible.

If someone doesn’t like olive, why not go with a lemon twist?

Because I don’t want a lemon twist-I want a Gibson.  Gin:vermouth 6:1 ratio, no bitters, stir to cold, serve over fresh ice with 2 cocktail onions.  Tastes vary, but others can keep their pimiento, blue cheese, jalapeño, and pickled garlic olives.  I like the tangy cocktail onions…………….

When our boys were young we were really financially strapped. Sunday for 10 for 10 at Taco Bell was our big outing. Luckily, at the time they had no idea how broke we were and thought we were living high on the hog.

While in pharmacy school at The University, our Saturday date night was 2 Burrito Supreme(s) at 99 cents each and split a medium Dr Pepper.  If I had picked up a few ManPower hours that week, I’d add a Pintos’n’Cheese (79 cents?).  We knew how broke we were.  What a long strange trip it’s been.

You see many pigs? I hunt in Mills County and know they are around but I never see any, or their damage. It would be fun to thin them out but I’m actually glad we don’t have any.

Plenty of pigs in Mills County, mostly the western part-although I’ve seen 2 road killed (?) ones within the city limits of Goldthwaite in the last month.  You’ll have ‘em soon enough.

In Narcos Mexico they make a big deal out of how nobody really knows what the DEA is and it’s about 1985.  No country for old men there’s a line of dialogue about the DEA calling trying to find Tommy Lee Jones. That movie takes place in 1980. I don’t feel like the DEA would have had the manpower to have been involved in something so in depth as to be dealing with some small town sheriff like that at that time.

I think you’re wrong about that, Grasshopper.  My first dealings with the DEA were in roughly 1980, and they were very well staffed and _very_ interested in small-time doings on both the legitimate drug distribution side (mine) and the illegal side.  Building their chops,I guess.

I’m willing to see what RoJo can do for a series

I’m no coach, but I’ve watched or attended about 6000 games in the last 60+ years. A series is nothing; we should toss him in for a whole 3rd quarter as a change up and see what happens.  Might wake up our QB1 and QB2.  What’s to lose at this point? No invite to the Meinecke Muffler Bowl?

People that keep saying Fire Sark are dumb and don’t watch the game.

Sark schemed up TDs yesterday . The QBs missed the WR

    The WRs dropped the passes

    The O-Line missed the blocks

I mean idk what y’all expect. The man can only put them in so many positions to succeed…I kinda do think the players gave up and that’s fine but I hope Sark remembers that this off-Season when he’s looking for new players

This!  I thought our quarterbacks were solid and talent in the wide receivers room………………

It would not be easy for me, I don't think. A close friend of my wife works for a hospice company and she got us hooked up through a senior living center in Haltom City that she contracted with. CVS came out and did all the residents and we were able to get in when the director of the center told wife's friend she could ask some close friends/family if we wanted to get it done because they had way too much vaccine on their hands.

Centralized CVS record keeping.  Any CVS should be able to fill out a new one for you-but go in to ask when it’s slow and be patient/

Man, I get shat on for admitting that I had subway for lunch, then I come here and there is an entire thread of people bragging about eating mcribs for 2 consecutive meals.

Yeah, not sure I understand the disdain for Subway; out here in the culinary desert of West Texas, they usually have the best lettuce, spinach, peppers, etc. in town and are the only choice for a sandwich.  (There are those triangular manufactured things from the truck stop).  Never had any gastric upset, or actually known anyone that did-could happen, probably a dressing neglect problem.  OTOH, I’ve eaten meals from several mom’n’pop meat and three places in the equivalent little towns that left me dehydrated and trembling for a couple of days.  You eat out, roll the dice.

He's a selfish prick. Always has been. Always will be. Color me shocked he wasn't vaxxed already.

I mean I think it's insane that my vaccination proof wasn't entered into any kind of national database. I have a card, which can be acquired through nefarious means. I'm pretty sure if I misplace said card it will be a monumental PITA to get proof that I was vaxxed back in Feb/March.

Nah, wherever jabbed you can fix a new card rapidly.  The pharmacy where I used to work has to enter the info into FIVE different databases, including the CDC.  Accessing the info without HIPAA clearance is another matter……….

  15. I use the Spyderco Sharpmaker.  Easy, fast, and will put a shaving edge on any decent steel.  Not in the same league as oiled emery cloth on top of plate glass with a dinosaur foreskin strop loaded with red rouge, but it’ll do for my kitchen needs.

Oh good, grammar police on a football forum. I think you perfectly understood what I meant. I was an EE major so forgive me.

Sorry, no offense meant; it’s always fascinated me that we aspiring graduates were never taught the difference between “alumnus,” “alumna,” and “alumni.”  Maybe I can get the Exes to send out a blast email………Hook ‘Em.

He has a contract that says we won’t.  It’s iron clad no way out.  The other school just want to get rid of us ASAP but they can’t because of this damn contract.

Bowlsby is a fool. Contracts were made to be broken. The B12 would be better off to send us on our way immediately.  Also, some of my attorney family members (bleh!) say that the GOR isn’t actually an enforceable contract anyway, more like one of those “gentlemen’s agreements”………..

  18. An astonishingly potent opioid- and heaven only knows how much of it comes in from China, South America, etc.  Not that hard to make in the lab.  Lots of fake and adulterated tablets of all sorts out there-and I can tell you many aren’t distinguishable from commercial products.  Scary, very scary shit!

  19. Looks like the Surly docs are all up in this topic.  Aspirin/Motrin/ibuprofen/Aleve/naproxen are all Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAID’s).  Continuing use of those is the #1 cause of Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) in the US.  Y’all need to stop getting hangovers.  Screwdrivers and Bloody Marys are better treatments, in moderation.  And enchiladas!

  20. I did the cowboy action shooting deal for years and had great fun, but it’s half-assed “re-enactment.”  My late father did the mountain man re-enactment bit for years;  I tried 1 weekend with him, and ended up sleeping in my truck and trying to locate the nearest Starbucks on my phone!  Not good times for the people that had to live it.  As my scoutmaster buddy used to say, “I love me some porcelain!.”
