  1. I finally burned up my old Craftsman 19.2V electric trimmer yesterday morning, so went to Home Depot and bought a 40V Ryobi. Out to test this morning; heavy as hell, powerful like a locomotive!  Wore my 67 y/o candy ass out in about 45 minutes and still had 1/4 charge left on high speed.  Charge, nap, run trimmer, repeat.  Hope i didn’t buy more electric trimmer than I can handle...........

  2. This is going to be very interesting-the BATFE approach.  Asking for a friend: so, if you already own an AR-15 pistol with a brace, do you have to now get it registered as an SBR?  $200 more for $35 brace? Months of waiting?  Where does the pistol reside while waiting for your stamp?  Isn’t there a special engraving done on SBR’s?  Any grandfathering?  Using an EO to create this hassle is really disheartening.

Speaking of hats, along with what has already been mentioned...

The shape is as important (if not more) than the hat itself.  Never buy one straight off the shelf without getting it shaped.

And don't wear a felt in the summer (unless for a very dressy occasion) or a straw in the winter.

Also, never put it on the bed.

Pretty good stuff, but I could introduce you to a gaggle of (older) genuine cowboys that never wear a straw hat-NEVER.  Those are for farmers.  I wear straw, starting probably tomorrow, but I’m no cowboy.

Our family bootmaker, now deceased, (at least 12 pair), once told me that you should try on boots with a fresh pair of socks like you intend to wear; if the heel slip is there, it’s bullshit-the bootmaker wants you to fit the boot to your feet with sweat shrinkage.  They should fit perfectly from first wearing.

Hats?  Take a look at thefedoralounge.com. If you want a nice hat, go custom and forget the overpriced crappy Stetson/Resistol lids.  There’s much, much nicer out there for less money.

We got those on chili day. Instead of actual cheese slices, it was some kind of gelatinous cheese spread. Like a greasier version of cheeze whiz. Pretty good when dipped in the chili. It was like a white trashier version of tomato soup and grilled cheese.

I don’t know if anyone packed a lunch in our school, actually.

So now we’re off on school cafeterias?  The stories I could tell........I’d have cut some fat lunch lady for a bowl of chili!  Horrific, dry, tasteless “hamburgers” once a week.  Made the salty bland canned vegetable look pretty good.

Gin menu at a local French restaurant, owner is a big gin aficionado. I took a pic because I know zero about gin but knew the menu was fairly large.

Interesting.  My current bottle of Bombay Sapphire and its backup both say 47%, not 40.  Citadelle and G’Vine both make a pleasant, easy sipping martini (or Gibson, my preference) with flavor without oiliness.

My first experience with gin was warm Gordon’s right out of the bottle.  Do not recommend.

An investment you can consider making is buying a Blue Book of Gun Values. That will give you an idea of the value of the firearms you have. There are some nice guns, but nothing over the top valuable from what I saw skimming the list. Since you don't seem to want to fool with selling the gun individually, you can find an estate dealer who will buy them and then sell them, insulating you from any crazies and any headaches. It just won't be as much money. But you can review gunbroker and BB for values to inform the deal you make with the estate seller.

Except the Blue Book values are typically out of date before it goes to the printer.  Sold items on Gunbroker are a better gauge, especially nowadays.  Went to the gun show in Kerrville on Saturday, and prices are up roughly 100% since a year ago.  Junker Winchester Mod 12 with cut 19” barrel for $500, anyone?  How about a 3rd Generation Glock 26 for $795 and no dealing?  New world out there, but it seemed like a lot more looking than buying, perhaps more action in the parking lot......

It appears they may have overcooked your steak.

Bullshit comments like that are exactly why I don’t go to steakhouses; I’ve given up on trying to teach wait people and line cooks their job.  If you want medium rare or Pittsburgh blue, eat it that way; I want MEDIUM WELL, goddamit-and I’m buying mine!

While I'm at it I'd also like to bitch about how, especially in Texas, lots of back roads and secondary roads are "finished" with a shitty, rough chipseal surface that might as well be fucking gravel. The constant roaring noise and vibration on these roads is miserable on a long drive. If a road is worth paving, it's worth putting down some smooth asphalt or concrete.

This!  Chipseal must be pretty cheap, and it’s everywhere-loud and rough.  Some TxDot aggy needs a baseball bat upside the head........

Haven’t been able to follow this thread as much as I would like this morning. Really appreciate all the intel being posted as well as information from other sites.

Just working but today is my birthday. Lulz. Born on the 13th, ha!

I was really impressed with Sarks PC yesterday even though it was an intro. I am excited about this season of football. Glad to see all the deliberation going into the hiring of the DC. Thanks for all the information! H

Happy birthday!  Mine, too-but I think I have bunch of Panhandle years on you-

Those intro press conferences are interesting, hope we don’t have to parse another one for many years, Sark impressed me, too.  Hell, I was all in on Strong and Herman both, so I obviously know nothing.

All this defensive alignment talk is making my head hurt...............

Shipleys?  You're not getting your donuts made by some old Asian lady in a strip mall that is probably a front for organized crime?  If they have a sticky note identifying a minimum credit charge or yells at the old man in the back in her native language, shakes her head and gets back to your order.  Even better.  Don't forget the "free" glazed donut holes.

Bunch of fancy bitches up in here.

I do miss Welches in Austin.  Especially the one off 35th and Guadalupe.  Or was it 38th 1/2?

    Money laundering.  Don’t even ask.

No pics, but on our drive back through NM and W. Texas -- the day that the Capitol was overrun, so we spent the entire drive listening to that shitshow in real time -- we did not eat any actual meals.  Instead, we stopped for one round of Allsup's burritos.   Then another.  Then some jerky, slim jims, and some buffalo ranch chex mix.  Then these nice little pepperoni-wrapped mozzarella sticks from the nicest gas station in Brownwood.  My entire family did not consume a single item that did NOT come from a gas station that day.

    I was so. damned. proud.

“Nicest gas station in Brownwood?”  Does that mean no one was making meth in the back floorboard of their F150 while filling up?  Yes, I’M local, and yes, I’ve seen this........

I really like this post...don’t forget Saban  won a NC at LSU as well.  What is it about LSU? Do the athletes skip all academics, only do football?

Is that what you call a rhetorical question? Forget it, OC92-it’s Louisiana.

This is unpopular? Oatmeal is food of the gods, and kicks ass on cholesterol as well. Throw a swirl of Sriracha on it or a big spoonful of salsa, to change it up.

So many gun stores are like this.  Bachman Pawn & Gun in Dallas had a similar rep, Ray's in Oak Cliff can be bad, even Targetmasters range and store in the land of Gar can be kind of stuck up and cliquey and they have a fair number of female employees (family owned I believe).

I shoot mostly airguns these days and occasionally go to a range for some calibration work.  I expect to be fucked with, but most of them realize that someone with $1000++ of airgun and optics may be a bigger fanatic than they are.

Bachman P&G-I bought a gun there, once.  Once. Ray’s was (is?) an interesting place-first trip in there, 1978, I spent an hour talking with Ray and bought an oddball shotgun; he didn’t suffer fools gladly.  Later manager was a real tall guy with shaved head and safari wardrobe-he was hard to deal with.  Of course, in that business you get plenty of know-it-alls and weirdos coming through the door.
