  1. you might want to try to appeal the decision as well. i know a friend who's kid appealed their CS rejection and was able to get in. just a FYI.
  2. Our oldest is in the CS program at UT. He was in top 10 at LT and made a little higher on SAT including an 800 on math and another 800 on the math subject test. He also had been coding since 4th grade and included several projects on his application with links. he also had insane extracurriculars and got into Plan II. He is in a house with EE and CS majors and the EE majors feel sorry for the CS students' workloads.
  3. TE Lake McRee, Lake Travis (Austin, TX): This tall drink of water has some potential, and a few early offers. A little stiff, but growing into his frame. He has received offers from Arizona, Arizona State, and Arkansas. He has played TE for 1 season, was a QB before that. He is 6'4, can jump and run well (played on LT Varsity FTBL and Basketball as a soph) and has great hands. Needs to add weight and continue to learn the TE position. great kid. my son's best friend. he is taking my son with him to the UT Spring game. Texas is monitoring him and he could earn an offer later depending on development. He would love to be a Longhorn.
  4. i heard the same recently about Leal.
  5. Following up on this, the girl chose TEXAS! We are so excited for her. She is 1 of 50 admitted into the Environmental Science program. We are 3 for 3 so far!
  6. we're in a good spot with the Brockermeyers.
  7. actual oversight by the House.
  8. No, you were right. I just don't react negatively when people disagree with me.
  9. Bernie is a waste of time. He is unelectable. He has a place, or at least, his ideas have a place in the discussion. But he does not. And Bernie's ideas are good for pushing the discussion left and making sure we have a full discourse. But his ideas wholesale are not good for America as a whole. We need a balanced, pragmatic, progressive approach, not wholesale socialism or communism. We need to establish social services, not socialism, that provide education, health care, etc. We need to marry those social services that provide a healthy, educated workforce with an capitalistic economic system. I favor Beto, Kamala, Klobuchar and Biden in some sort of combination that works best for electing a Democrat and getting Trump out of office.
  10. holy shit Anastasis is my neighbor...
  11. Nice whataboutism. Obama had to dig the US out of the hole Bush / Republican party's policies put us in. Once he dug us out of the hole, he lowered spending every year thereafter. Over the last 40 years, Ds have decreased spending while Rs have increased spending while cutting revenue. It's insanity. No responsible person runs a business that way nor does a responsible person handle their own finances that way. Its irresponsible and not acceptable. Now back to the point, we already pay for everyone's medical care. the people opting out are trying to freeride on the rest. again, like Rs economic policies, its irresponsible and not acceptable. and i thought the Rs were the party of personal responsibility. the reality is they are all about personal responsibility when they think it will affect them (everyone has to get car insurance cause what if one of those unemployed poor people run into my car?). and they are all not about personal responsibility when it will not (i dont care if that poor person doesnt have insurance but good god dont do anything that will make my insurance premium go up!). of course they are too stupid or ignorant to understand they are already paying for that poor person in all the ways i cited above and they would actually save money if we had an effective universal health care plan. oh and of course they turn a blind eye to personal responsibility when it conflicts with the desires of special interest groups like insurance companies.
  12. and property tax and sales tax and income tax and borrowing more against the Federal Debt as our state and federal gov'ts end up paying the hospitals for indigent care. but lets just keep putting that cost of healthcare at its highest and most inefficient cost point on the Federal credit card so long as WE dont have to pay for it RIGHT NOW. its so fucking stupid. but thats essentially the economic policy of the Republican party for the last 40 years.
  13. i think its a combination of two things: 1. the Republican/Conservative 40+ year war on everything Democrat. Demonizing the left as pure evil. and 2. a President who does not care about norms, has no shame, and does not care about anything other than himself. both of these factors had to exist for trump to do what he has done.
  14. well they sure as hell arent stepping up while commits a shit ton of other felonies. what makes you think murder would be any different?
  15. nope. DOJ policy says you cant indict a sitting president. so he could murder every single Democrat and get away with it so long as the Republicans didnt vote to impeach him. And why would they? he could literally kill all of them as well and still not face any charges. its a stupid policy that has no basis in the Constitution or in our philosophy of government.
  16. i am partial to this one for family reasons. my daughter is the little girl in the video.
  17. Ok, i have come around on Blood Meridian to love it and recommend it. Now that I understand what it was, I appreciate it a lot more. I LOVED the Sun Also Rises! My affinity for it probably has a lot to do with the fact I am taking my wife to Paris next week. I loved the intimate peek into life in Paris and Spain the 1920s. I loved the style and dialogue. I think reading BM really prepared me for this one in that they were both rather random views into life at those places during the respective time periods. I am reading the Son now. WHY DID SHE OPEN THE DOOR???
  18. but you cant do that because he was joking. i mean seriously, who didnt realize he was joking? idoits.
  19. he would LOVE to go to Texas. great kid. big (tall but needs to add weight), strong, great hands. and still lots of room to improve. he started playing TE (Y) this past season. Prior to this Fall, he was a QB. So he made the switch from QB to TE in the first games of the season on JV and was so dominant that he was promoted to Varsity where he took the starting job and never looked back. i dont know if he is the guy for Texas as the TE spot in the '21 class but this is the kind of kid you hope Texas is on to this early and watch to see if he continues to develop. 6'4+, good speed, hard worker, willing blocker.
  20. its more about his kids right now than anything else.
  21. This is correct right now but wouldn't be surprised if it changes in the future.
  22. He is going to be a good one. Good size, needs to add some weight but no doubt will do so in due time. Speed all day long. Plays Rover / NB rn for LT but will probably play Will later on. Freshmen do not play on varsity at LT. This one did. He is definitely one to watch.
  23. FWIW, Zach Evans is the best HS running back I have watched play against Lake Travis. Better than Gray or Brown by a mile. LT tried to play NS straight up and Evans ran over, around and through a very disciplined defense. He isnt the biggest or fastest or the most physical, but is excellent at every single thing asked of a running back. He has great instincts, runs hard, and is a terrific football player.
  24. now see thats just mean. (but ok, i will play my role) BUT THERE SHOULD BE!
  25. i will jump in as well with requests for recommendations. i am taking my wife to paris in mid-March for 7 days with a day trip to Reims for champagne tasting. any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. we are staying at Hotel St James. and other than the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre, i have no idea what else we should do. So for a first time, please give me your must do and see lists! thanks
