"While conducting a 1-173 Infantry training exercise, a southern black racer snake slid across the barrel of junior U.S. Army National Guard sniper Pfc. William Snyder's rifle. The exercise was performed at Eglin Air Force Base on April 7, according to the Alabama National Guard."

  2. up and working early this morning, as usual, enjoying my coffee, etc.  I hear a clatter on the stairs.  I look.  it's the wife, dropping her work badge there from over the balcony rail above. fine, wants to not forget it on her way out.  good idea.

an hour later, I get home from dropping off daughter #2 at school.  wife's walking out the door.   coffee's kicking in, so I lock the door behind her, and  quickly make my usual tour of the downstairs, turning off all the lights she and the kids left on, then start upstairs to the master bath to take a well-earned shit and a shower.  wife's furiously bangs on the door.  I unlock it.  she bursts in, all pissed off (at me) that she can't find her badge.  she eventually finds it...

    upstairs.

Growing up we had a huge fig tree in the back yard. We used to eat fig this, fig that, and still had tons of fig preserves to give away. Until the drain field went bad and Dad had to put in a new septic system. Then the tree died. Woops.

No one wants your Free Used Mattress, Betty.

    au contraire, amigo.

we got a new mattress, and the wife put the old one up on Craigslist for free and it was gone in about 3 hours.  a group of of seemingly educated, fun-loving, young white folk wanted it for a big party they were having that same evening.  it would make Pancho's head explode.

but on Nextdoor?  who the fuck would want to sell old crap to anyone they might see on a semi-regular basis?

The key is lying cattycorner in the hammock where your head is on side of the center line and feet on the other. Use a ridgeline system to ensure the hammock can be set to the right amount of slack regardless of the tree separation distance.  With my hammock set up correctly, I can lie almost flat.

this.  my Warbonnet Blackbird actually is sewn with bulge in the side at one end for my feet.

Oh, & I've heard from more than a few people that said hammock camping absolutely crushed their backs in the AM.

only problem I've had as far as that goes is sleeping so deep and still in the same position for so long (i'm a side sleeper) is I'll wake up with a numb hand or shoulder.

in most Texas weather, I skip the under quilt and just use an extra-wide 3/8" foam pad I bought from Gossemer Gear.  CO is a different deal.  definitely needed the UQ in April.  but if  you're above treeline most of the time I've heard good things about the Neoair.

  7. Tell my mama and tell my pa
That their fine young son didn't get far
He made it to the end of a bottle
    Sitting in a sleazy bar

He tried hard but his spirit broke
He tried until he nearly choked
In the end he lost his
    Bottle drinking alcohol
