2024 Presidential Election Thread - Let's keep the party going.

“Parkinson’s doctor made 10 White House visits, logs show“ <<This may become an even worse shit show.>> A neurologist and Parkinson’s disease specialist has made nearly a dozen visits to the White House Medical Unit, visitor logs show, raising new questions about President Biden’s fitness for office as he battles efforts to push him off the 2024 ballot. Dr. Kevin R. Cannard, a Bethesda neurologist and movement disorder specialist affiliated with Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, visited the office of the White House Medical Unit ten times dating back to November 2022, the visitor logs show. The logs, last updated on July 1, show Dr. Cannard visited the White House most recently on March 28. -

If the Dems don’t prevail Biden’s legacy may very well be that he handed the country right back to Trump. But that story hasn’t been written. Anything can happen. I would have been shocked by Biden’s digging in if I had not heard from his biographer who was making the rounds on networks after the debate. He said no chance he steps down. And his inner circle is tight. His family WANTS him to run. If they did not he would be very conflicted. what I wonder is: will this create a legit third party? A middle of the road one? Will progressive Dems split with the moderate ones (who appear to have been in hiding like Liberals were in the 80’s and 90’s)? I don’t see anything other than Biden is running and the party will defend him and step behind him. sometimes I feel like there is this amazing mythical cabinet, that is full of these incredible candidates we will never get a chance to vote for and the powers that be open the doors showing us our wildest dreams and just pick out the two they want and when we say, “Well what about that?” And the powers that be say “nope. These are the two you get. Go vote.” ————- CNN just said records show a Parkinson’s specialist met with Biden’s physician at the White House early 2024. For what that is worth. There are things that can cause Parkinson-ism but none good for future of running the country next four years. -

“President Joe Biden defended his place at the top of the Democratic ticket Monday in a surprise television interview on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” after more lawmakers and donors came forward over the weekend with concerns about his reelection bid. “I’m not going anywhere,” Biden said in the phone interview. “I absolutely believe that I am the best candidate to beat Donald Trump in 2024.” “I’m getting so frustrated by the elites in the party” calling on him to step down, the president fumed. “I don’t care what the millionaires think.” Biden insisted to hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski that the concerns of his wealthy backers would not dictate his political future. “I want their support, but that’s not the reason I’m running,” Biden said. “I’m not running about what they think and what they care about. And by the way, you don’t see a whole hell of a lot of them flocking to Trump. You don’t see a whole lot of CEOs flocking to Trump.” “I’m not going to explain any more about what I should or shouldn’t do,” the president added defiantly. “I am running. I am running,” ——————- I saw the segment. Very feisty. Not quite yelling but angry tone. Had this been done the morning after the debate maybe it’s a different ballgame. I don’t know. I do know is that it appeared as though for six days (bc of the holiday) after the debate that they had no answer. Waiting on the Friday George interview which mostly didn't help him. I don’t see more people flocking to Trump. The main concern is voters dropping from Biden. Not voting. Looking elsewhere. I am not a fixer. Obviously not a political strategist but I thought after the debate the best hope was for him to take some time after the debate and announce he was stepping aside and Kamala would have the full weight of the White House behind her. And campaign in earnest for her. As her campaign floats the names of the VP candidates. Making that sort of an open process. That I felt was the best hope. the problem with Biden imo is the mental image we were left with of him in the debate. So he’s like a zoo animal now on display. Every misstep will be magnified. Every gaff and every sentence scrutinized. Is it about his inner circle + his pride? Or is it a sincere belief that no one else can beat Trump? -

My initial thought was (before listening to his biographer) that Biden would step aside and it would be all hands on deck with the party for Kamala and that the excitement would come from largely from the selection of her running mate. But after listening to Biden’s biographer I realized there was no way Biden would willingly step aside. as a former Republican I am keenly interested in what’s happening bc it’s historic. The idea of an open primary which now seems unlikely. I was thinking what if Trump slipped on a banana peel? And he was incapacitated (permanently)What would happen this close to a convention? Would there be an open convention? but I guess all the talk in the press and mostly private rumblings are for naught because I do not think the delegates will take their support from Biden. So it will be a typical convention I guess. -

From his letter (very different tone): This was a process open to anyone who wanted to run. Only three people chose to challenge me. One fared so badly that he left the primaries to run as an independent. Another attacked me for being too old and was soundly defeated. The voters of the Democratic Party have voted. They have chosen me to be the nominee of the party. Do we now just say this process didn't matter? That the voters don't have a say? I decline to do that. -

Biden sent a 2 page letter to the House Dems saying he is firmly committed to staying in the race until the end. Saying the one job is to beat the Orange Cheeto. since we have really not seen anything like this: if he does not step aside will the convention be uneventful? Will everyone fall behind him/the talk of an open convention or blitz primaries is a pipe dream? I would think if he doesn’t step aside everyone will fall in line behind him for the message. And for the job of beating Trump. I’m guessing that what happens. I would think the rhetoric dies down this week? Sort of a shut up and get in line type thing? -
It was to keep you watching with friends so you wouldn’t be able to put all the pieces together. They want you watching with friends so you won’t figure it all out. You watch alone and you’re like holy shit…the answers are all in this damn show. You watch with friends and all they care about is when Mulder and Scully are going to bang. Lol.

I’m two steps ahead of that. Chess not checkers.

I’ve been rewatching the X-Files. That show was amazing. Not just for its time. I’m pretty sure that @Brisketexan Could find the Rainey ripper if this were 20 years ago. He seemed the type that if someone dropped him in the middle of the desert and told him the truth was out there he’d pick up a shovel and start looking. But now he’s old and wants to live in Finland probably trying to make money as a Ted Cruz impersonator. on a serious note…allegedly the lights they are going to put up around the lake are supposed to happen in August. Meanwhile how many bodies since March of last year when they said “hey we’re doing all we can. We’re gonna put up lights and safety measures.” To be honest, if there is a serial killer maybe having a task force might be a better option. a theory is running around that if the men are drugged that quite possibly they were drugged with Gabapentin. Which was found in Riley Strain’s body (assuming he had a prescription) but it does not mix well with alcohol. Just a thought. To add to the thoughts.

@Dbeasyit's all psychological. You yell homicide, everybody says, "Huh? What?" You yell serial killer, and we've got a panic on our hands on the Fourth of July weekend man.

This article is a hot mess. the body has blunt force trauma but they aren’t investigating it as a homicide even though they are investigating? The article is bizarre. But it’s good to know LE and city officials are taking all the drownings and deaths downtown seriously 🙄 https://www.kxan.com/news/local/austin/austin-police-investigate-dead-body-on-rainey-street/

Choi is described as being 5'8" and about 130 lbs. with straight black hair. He was last seen wearing blue swim shorts with a bird print and a blue t-shirt. https://cbsaustin.com/news/local/apd-asking-for-help-in-locating-missing-40-year-old# he was wearing swim shorts so he came prepared to swim. 🏊

https://www.kxan.com/news/local/austin/apd-seeking-the-publics-help-to-find-40-year-old-missing-man/ Police identified the missing man as Daniel Choi, and said he was last seen in the 600 block of Davis Street around 1:04 p.m. His friends found his cellphone on the ground at Caesar Chavez and South First Street around 5:45 p.m., APD said in a news release. Ya…he doesn’t in any way resemble the pattern of men with dark hair who go missing near there with a group of friends. it might be unrelated but if it is related I guess they should try looking in the lake

Countdown to 2024 Texas Longhorn Football - SEC now with more cowbell!

At least Kirk Bohl’s retired today (30 minutes ago)… -
I enjoyed it! It was clever and fun and like a cross between Blood Simple and Body Heat. The ending was a little soft for me but I loved it. Adria might be a big star. I think Twisters will really solidify Glenn.

So are yall saying that the WNBA is like aggy? Caitlin is good for the sport.

Manny is still in there I think because he once made a good Mole. Get in your box, Manny and make a mole. That seems to be what I see the Judges do after having watched every season. oh you’re from Africa—make an African twist on everything you make. Oh you’re from Mexico…we need a Mexican twist. the truth is Dan and Danny have been at the top a bunch and like in Buda’s winning season (it’s really not even close to the other contestants) I want a season where they just start whacking people off (just kidding) but eliminating people right away after 4-5 weeks. Fuck it just keep the top four or five and put them through rigorous challenges until the end. my only true complaint is Last Chance Kitchen: just have one winner and have that one winner appear to join the final 6. I think enjoy last chance kitchen and I think Tom loves doing it. Just have one re-entry. One. That’s it. At the end.
-
I really want Dan to win. I think he will have a ridiculous meal. Some of the stuff he makes is next level and I loved his reaction to the fish boil. He was like fuck no. Awesomeness. Or his reaction to Manny with the porridge. why is Manny still there? I mean why? I get that the ones not in the final three are all cannon fodder as far as the show but how many times is he on the chopping block with shit food.
-
Agreed on Manny should have been gone a long time ago. Confidence and flavors really count. Amanda needed to go when she did I was thinking she was going to do a tataki everything. I do think people panic and forget why they were chosen. I think Dan will put on an amazing final meal. I just have that feeling. the rest of the cheftestants left have a shot but I lean the most towards Dan, Danny and Laura as final 3. Like lean into what you are good at. I guess. I am enjoying this season. I feel like I learn a lot from it as far as ideas on things to make and do. Jmo.

Time for another ‘my dog is awesome’ thread
Nicole44 replied to Patricio Swayze's topic in Daily Texan
I hate seeing these. And I do try to help whenever I can but this little girl is a perfect dog. If y’all know anyone in California that can adopt her before she is euthanized tomorrow I’d be grateful. Or at least I know I did my best to try.
