And the next thing you know, we’re searching for all the videos we can of people fucking their newly unboxed toys. Right, guys?
    Guys?

Are we sure this isn’t already a thing?

Because this seems like a thing.

I've researched PnR a few times all the way through. I 100% agree with what you said. They did maybe the best job since Cheers in bringing in new main characters and bit characters.

My unpopular opinion is that Leslie's character become the least likeable the last couple of seasons.  She's overbearing, manipulative and meddling. I did a complete 180 on her.

Also , I thought the show should've ended with the Harvest Fest. That would've been a great finale. Didn't care for the last season.

Harvest Fest totally felt like a finale

I started watching P&R during season 1 when it came out and thought it was crap.  And it was.

Seasons 2-end were great.   They pretty seamlessly changed Leslie Knope from "female Michael Scott" into kind of a Mary Tyler Moore reincarnate.

Yup.  I started P&R between the 3rd and 4th season.  I 1-3 over a few seasons and couldn't believe the jump the show made, essentially instantly, in the break between season 1 and season 2.  And it's 100% because they transitioned Leslie away from being an awkward buffoon to essentially the complete opposite of that.

The development of the ancillary characters and the Pawnee universe in P&R takes it to the next level.  Plus, as someone who has worked directly in small town government in the Midwest, so much of those side plots, town hall meetings, and just angry uniformed citizen shit hit me hard.  It's absolutely spot on.

And that's not even getting into the acting performances.  From season 3 on, basically everyone in that show fucking slays their characters.

HIMYM & Big Bang Theory are pure garbage.

I halfway agree.  BBT is one of the worst shows to ever reach that level of popularity.  HIMYM was good for the first 4 seasons or so, and then became a parody of itself for the remainder of the series.  There were moments of actual humor.

Big Bang Theory without a laugh track should be reserved for Gitmo.

I don’t know where people get this idea. I have great social skills, good basic hygeine, educated, make ok-ish money, physically active & strong (5’11 180 and can bench 225 easily). I can confirm I’m not swimming in it, although I don’t do horribly either.

All of that is bottom of the barrel bare minimum that young women expect/want these days. This thread is all about how men have unrealistic expectations and nothing about the expectations women have.

    How old are you?

Any of my friends born before 1988 or so that have become single in the last 6-7 years have said it's so much easier to get laid now than when we were younger.  The guys who grew up with in person socializing but now have access to dating apps seem to be the most equipped to thrive in the current ecosystem.

  6. I'd be dead in a gutter somewhere if Tinder or similar apps had existed when I was in college ('03-'07), and all I cared about at that age was getting pussy.  I figured out very quickly that simply paying attention to a woman's needs/interests and making sure they got theirs first was the gateway to getting what I was after.  Basic respect goes a long ways in life.

Social media and high speed internet (allowing fast downloads of porn videos) were just coming around in these days, and while they hadn't taken root yet, guys my age (the eldest millenials) were absolutely influenced by the American Pie/Varsity Blues back slapping bros that had a view point about sex that the woman's needs were irrelevant as long as you got yours (think Tweeder basically bragging about committing underrage rape).  In HS those guys got more than I did.  By the time college rolled around, it was like I had a fucking cheat codes.

It's easy to see how social media, smartphones, and the isolation inherent within those devices has created the situation we're seeing today.  Any young man with any kind of in-person social skills, and the resolve to not get sucked into that Alpha Male bullshit has to be just swimming in it at this point.

Not necessarily incels, but a lot of young singles in general no longer go to clubs and bars in our area. A DWI will wreck them financially. We are lucky in that we have a 19th Hole in our neighborhood and security doesn't give DWIs, in fact, you can call them to come pick your drunk ass up and take you home. My son bailed out one friend, and had another get one leaving the last wedding we attended. He worked at Lockheed and got let go because he could no longer qualify for Top Secret clearance. Our 19th Hole is an older crowd, but there are some pretty young women, bartenders, and our cart girl is a smoke show. At work, the older women are always trying to set him up with their daughters or granddaughters. I'm glad he didn't take a job working from home.

I think it's less a fear of DWI (although that IS real) and more of a fear of having to talk to people in real life.

I can assure you, very few people in '93 thought Pearl Jam was "uncool"

Also punk kids <> grunge kids

I'm aware how popular Pearl Jam was (I mean, I was 8 at the time and somewhat paying attention to that stuff), but Kurt Cobain constantly slagged them, and Nirvana was definitely considered edgier/cooler/whatever.  Nirvana definitely had more cache with the cooler than thou crowd than Pearl Jam did.

Punk kids would go for Nirvana, but often wouldn't go for Pearl Jam.  I'm very aware that the punk crowd and grunge crowd were not the same, but they definitely overlapped a lot in Nirvana fanhood.

  8. I was in grade school when grunge hit and didn't really embrace it until middle school ('96ish) after Kurt had died.  I was a huge Nirvana immediately and never really took to Pearl Jam.  I even sort of reflexively hated them for awhile because of Kurt's low opinion of them.

I made all sorts of musical evolutions over the next decade, and as Soundgarden broke up, Layne Staley died, and grunge faded, I couldn't help but notice how Pearl Jam just kept hanging around.  I got super into The Who and The Stones my freshman year of college, and picked up that Pearl Jam worshipped both bands to a various extent.  A couple years later they dropped the Avocado album towards the end of my junior year, and it just really caught me.  Obviously I knew all the radio songs, but I just dived in head first and completely devoured their entire discography in the summer of 2006.  We were still buying CDs at Best Buy in those days, and I picked up one of the full show live albums.  It was at State College PA in like May of 2003 or something.  For the next year I was unabashedly obsessed with Pearl Jam, chasing down odd cuts, following the influences, and all that shit.

I've moved onto other stuff over time, but I still love Pearl Jam and listen regularly.  The new album really caught me off guard with how vibrant, and well, fucking good it is.

Pearl Jam's staying power, IMO, is how much they embraced classic rock.  It might have made them uncool to the punk kids in '93, but there's enduring qualities to that music that spans generations.

So how is Minnetonka as a place to live? More specifically, near the high school?

It’s pretty upper crust from what I’ve gathered.

It’s likely a pretty typical upper middle class suburban experience that looks similar to that level of place anywhere in the country, but with the usual Midwestern quirks.

That said, I don’t know anyone who has actually lived there.

Growing up in Missouri, one of my best friends lived up the hill, and his parents were Okies.  It was a bad weather day and we were watching random daytime TV in his living room.  His mom was there.  All of a sudden she spoke up "let's go to the basement, NOW".  No sirens, no nothing.  We went to the basement, which was a walkout with windows to the south.

Fucking funnel cloud came screaming up the hill right at us.  It lifted up just enough to not do any damage as it crossed over the house.  It didn't do much damage anywhere, it never really touched down, but she KNEW it was coming, almost supernaturally.  Craziest thing I've ever seen.

She could likely feel the pressure drop

best since avocado for me but nowhere close to binaural and riot act.

Binaural has some really good songs that translate excellent to the live show, but that actual album is a sonic mess.

Just finished the new PJ album.  (twice)

Easily their best effort since Yield.

    Bravo

I just posted this exact same thought on another board.

I really like Riot Act and Avocado, but this tops both of them.

McCready just slapped his dong all over this one.

Nah, the XII as is or with a few ACC leftovers will always have a few spots in the CFP. Only way the programs are left out is if the top 16-20 break off which will also leave the bottom halves of the BIG and SEC behind.

You’re arguing with what I’m pretty sure is a burner/alt devoted to trolling the remaining Big 12 fans.

How could you possibly fuck up as much as the broncos?  Just use the throwbacks and be done with it.  Only using them once per year is more confounded, idiotic thinking, "yeah, we know you like the throwback ones, but you're gonna love these new-new ones!"

    Let's Ride!

The obtuseness of sports marketing folks blows me away sometimes.

  16. Yes.  I absollutely cannot stand what I've heard on the radio, and I've heard a bunch.  I'm definitely not paying money to see him.  Maybe if he opens for my daughter's band?  (I crack myself up, that would be a genre mismatch regardless of my feelings about his music.)
    As always, opinions, assholes.

I saw him open for Turnpike years ago knowing nothing of him and really liked it. Sold me on him

Are you referencing Charley?  See him live before settling on an opinion would be my suggestion

Because I grew up in NM, with green chile served with almost every meal, I think bell peppers are completely useless. Chile peppers are supposed to have taste and heat. Bell peppers have neither.

Red and yellow bells have a sweet flavor that works as a compliment to certain things.  They're solid on a veggie dip tray, and roasted red bells are pretty tasty.

    I'm with you on green.
