I went back to the thing that started this whole thread. Toasted english muffin with peanut butter.

Made the english muffins (sourdough) from scratch.

    Was great.

They have a duck confit hash that I recall is damn good, and I always love a Bloody Mary bar if they still do that. My last visit there was summer of 2021.

I'm the opposite, I hate Bloody Mary bars, because I always get the ratios messed up. I'd rather have a bartender who knows what he/she is doing make it right.

Check out Atchafalaya. Small place with a southern vibe. Service, atmosphere, and food were top notch.

I went ahead and booked Sunday brunch there. It was on the list, and they open at 9:30. I'm flying out at noon, but the rest of my family is driving so I can just grab an uber to the airport if needed straight from the restaurant.

Was going to try to get my 70+ year old mom to agree to go to Willie Mae's - but they are closed "temporarily". That's concerning.

  5. I’m taking my mom + adult siblings next month for a weekend excursion. Friday to Sunday. Staying in the Garden District.

All I have booked so far is GW Fins for dinner Friday night and Commanders for Jazz Brunch Saturday.

I need a Saturday dinner for sure, maybe a Sunday breakfast (my flight out is at noon).

Might just take everyone to Parkway Tavern for an early dinner Saturday.

Totally. Hiring a guy who was drafted by Nick Saban, coached by Dan Quinn, worked under Bo Davis for three years, has eight years of experience coaching the position in college, has recruited the state of Texas extensively, most recently coached in college at the University of Miami, is currently on staff in the NFL for a team that played exceptional defense this year, and happens to be a former all-American DT at UT…is too big of a risk.

Yesterday was the boy’s first time shooting a long gun.
Started with his Grandfather’s 10/22 and worked up to my AR. He’s a right handed shooter but is left eye dominant. Gonna take some patience getting him comfortable shooting.
Moved on to .22 revolver. He was really good with the pistol.

Tonight we are going to The Toadies for his first concert. He’s so excited.

Just buy him a left handed action/stock rifle. I'm right handed but left eye dominant, and I shot left handed because of that, and have since I was his age.

I'd love to be at 13 ft by the end of year. Deep enough to drop the next set in. I figure it's about 36 buckets to do a foot. Im at about 9 ft now, altnough instell need to do the lagging for the second set. A good day is 18-24 buckets. Summer heat always slows me down, and the kids sports will start having games this spring.

If you hit a cavern you still have to dig 13 feet, those extra "cavern feet" don't count in the total.

Our Macan S lease is up in 3 months I have no idea what’s next. We won’t buy it, we may get the same car newer version. It’s a ridiculously great touring vehicle. I can get to rockport for fishing in no time flat. It yawns at 95 mph doing 2100 RPM in 7th gear. Handles like a champ. Has CarPlay but the electronics are German.

my X is paid for and I’m in the cars and tuition window now with two teens. Ugh. So I’m not thrilled about having to reup.

Everything from downsize to one daily driver (I work from home but still unlikely) to downsize to a less expensive car - wife says the Volvo or Subaru route is fine but she’s not driving the lezzie car, to give up my truck and her macan and get a newer truck, to a Benz or Audi or fuck I don’t know are on the table.  Probably not another Tesla.

the sports cars are out we need it for road trips. So it’s looking like the macan or maybe the Mercedes GLE. GLS may be too tight for my comfort for our garage. Or go the Subaru or Volvo route. Fuck I dunno.

last time I was uninspired but twice got us looking at the macan it was a great choice.

Who’s totally thrilled with what they have right now in the ICE / hybrid categories?

I love my Rivian R1S. But they are not cheap at the moment. Coming from a Tesla Model X, you'd enjoy it. It's not an ICE or Hybrid. You can get it in dual motor now and with the max pack it gets like 350 miles (real miles, not Tesla estimate miles) with a full charge.

My wife test drove the Volvo XC90 Hybrid and loved it, but is holding out for the EX90 full electric.

You don't have to believe me.  The last place I lived in Seattle we had a brand new heat pump installed because govt incentives.  It worked great for Seattle weather, but when that heat dome hit. (Temps 99 and above for 8 days). That thing was pretty much useless.  The heat pumps are great for maintaining temperature but bringing temperature down was almost impossible.  Hit that 31 days of heat y'all had last year and you'll bitch about the heat pump just the same way people in Eastern Washington do.

I had a new heat pump installed in my last house back in 2019. It worked great in the Texas summer.
