As a Mavs fan... thanks Chris. Hits too close to home. The vast majority of non voters are the unprivileged, not the privileged. They are either too busy trying to survive or already know how the game works. The government doesn’t care. At all. In fact they are actively trying to exploit you if you come from these aforementioned communities.

Saw an old clip of Bill referring to immigrants as “illegal aliens.” Something like a “super predator.”   They sure knew how to throw in those key words back before it became unacceptable. I’ll say it again. These people paved the way for someone like Donald Trump with their own rhetoric and actions. They affected, perhaps infected, everything years ago. Trying to do the same today. The next Trump will not be such an obvious moron.

It’s like I’m counting on the fucking NBA to save us. That’s where I’m at. Start a mass strike already.

Come on man.  Tell me you don't get a chuckle out of that one.  If the republic goes down to a red nippled bernie meme that would be kinda fitting.

It’ll go down to two private corporations being run by the same American oligarchy. But you knew that. This is simple simple stuff boys and girls. Less than a millimeter Ana. I’ll send your trophy through the mail bc I can’t present it to you in person during this pandemic. The trip is especially treacherous when millions do not have health insurance.

Yeah, but what about a Bernie coloring book! Both sides!

Had nothing to do with Bernie guy. It’s the ideas that, believe it or not, millions of people thought similarly all on their own. We didn’t need to be persuaded. It’s life experience. It’s why some won’t listen to him now when he says to vote for Joe. Because Joe Biden has 0% chance to save this country. He helped build it.

So sounds like Bernie is on your team now. You can have my coloring book. Take it.

Why do you think that you spend so much more "both sides" energy pointing out Democrats/liberals doing stupid things than the other direction? There is ample opportunity to be a true both sides hero over in the Daily Texan forum now that it's actually a politics forum for cowards. For some reason your efforts seem very one-sided for a both sides adherent.

I’ve heard this one before so indulge me. Democrats are supposedly the party of the people that know better. It’s easier to start w the people closer to you in thought.

I can’t convince liberal democrats that healthcare for all and free college are good for the nation. I should also waste my time convincing Republicans that Trump is shit and Q is sooo far gone batshit? One step at a time Huck. Or millimeter. Even smaller probably...

If you wanna fall for GOP attacks on Kamala, that's your own damn fault.

Who said I was falling for it?

These aren’t GOP attacks on Kamala. It’s what her record is. I didn’t say anything in that post regarding Kamala that is untrue.

I wish I had the confidence of a leftist political commentator.  They've been hilariously wrong at every turn when it comes to predicting public behavior regarding the 2020 election, yet they never slow down with the hot takes.  It's admirable, honestly.

I mean “hilariously wrong” is a bit of an overstatement imo. Bernie was in position to win this thing until the democrats “jumped him” as Jamaal Bowman succinctly put it.

It’s like democrats are trying to lose. Even Trump knows to shower his base with delusions of grandeur.

People keep talking about black people voting for Kanye West in some capacity. It’s the kids everyone should be worried about. I guarantee there is a rather significant portion of the youth of any race that would rather listen to Kanye West than Joe Biden. It’s like a legal weed stance away from really happening. Meanwhile... Joe won’t bend, Kamala laughs about smoking weed while jamming pac and locking people up simultaneously, and they’ll both be sponsored and brought to you by the stop and frisk guy.

Go to the grave calling them stupid while you smart people lose to the worst human being in Merica. Again.

Mensa, speaking from his home in L.A.’s upscale Silver Lake neighborhood, focused his criticism on Harris. “Kamala Harris is a cop,” he said. “She’s a tough-on-crime prosecutor. That’s like the opposite of a revolutionary, and I could never vote for her.… I’m not impressed because she’s a woman of color, because I recognize what neocolonialism is, and I recognize that token black people are propped up to positions within the imperialistic, patriarchal, white supremacist state that is America to enforce all of those ideologies. That is a prosecutor—to prosecute those who reject the white supremacist, patriarchal state.”

    LOL, what??

AFAIK, Nina Turner hasn't run for anything since losing the Ohio Secretary of State race about 6 years ago. She is not being considered for VP.  She hasn't been vetted as she is not a candidate for anything.

So you don’t think the national co-chair to Sanders’ campaign has been looked into by the DNC? She was imo deservedly lambasting everyone in sight for 8 years and you don’t think some of these powerful people had it out for her? They wouldn’t be vetting her to to VP but thoroughly looking for any dirt to take her down. Vetted is vetted. Her background has been examined.

do you think there are progressive voters who would vote for biden-turner but may sit out for biden-rice (or biden-harris)?

    Yes.

    4 minutes ago, henrygandorf said:

i've always read how kamala has a strong progressive voting record in the senate, but she never seemed especially "progressive" at least in the current bernie-adjacent-meaning of the word.

also, in a biden presidency, where biden is calling the (somewhat non-progressive) shots, does a voice like turner's actually help shape policy?  i guess a better phrasing of that would be, "would this be enough for progressives to embrace biden, even though none of her beliefs on policy could see the light of day?"  progressives really seem to hate him, and i personally don't think anything changes that.

Kamala is a prosecutor with a shady history. This is a matter of fact. I agree she is not Bernie progressive.

I do not know if Nina would help shape policy as that seems tough for anyone to do at this moment in time. I do know she will not give in. She will fight for her agenda at every turn. We want a seat at the table. Our voices to be heard.

    8 minutes ago, henrygandorf said:

biden obviously would never pick her, and it seems like lip service to progressives to even discuss her (which he hasn't anyway).

Biden can’t even pay lip service towards progressive positions. This is our concern dude.

I agree he would never pick her. Here for the discussion attempting to overcome my growing apathy.

so what's the case for turner?

She’s not Mike Pence. Did I do that right y’all?

Nina is thoroughly vetted. If the DNC could have found anything on her they’d have done it by now. She is a leading progressive voice and worked as second in command for The Holy One. There isn’t one progressive voice who doubts her sincerity on the issues. So line all those issues up. That’s a good case all by itself. She believes in the progressive issues she speaks about. She has been a senator but is not currently a senator so there isn’t any important position given up for the democrats. She is a relatively young, strong, black woman.

Basically the only reason she can’t be VP is bc of fragile old white people. That and the DNC (still old white people) would never set the table for someone like her.

  10. 17 minutes ago, Rougarou said:

    Why is that?

Bernie Bros hated Harris. Probably still do. She's a cop who prosecuted a lot of poor and black people, through the criminalization of drugs and petty crime. Progressives didn't like her then and barely like her now and their vote (or lack thereof) cost HilClinton the election.

It’s unfathomable unless it’s your experience. Give Kamala a pass for actually destroying lives because that’s forgivable. She was just doing her job amirite? It’s overlooked to protect the status quo. Business as usual. These lawyers who get innocent people off death row would still vote for Biden/Kamala with their respective records.

What’s not forgivable is Turner saying a few curse words while vehemently defending her position. Bad bad politician and that’s it. Or Bass talking to scientologists. Eww.

The problem is the party system. Political parties need to be abolished. There is no reason for parties in our modern world where technology and information can be spread to the entire country nearly instantaneously.

All party politics does is force people to think about alliances and colors. It's a crutch for people who don't think or don't want to make their own decisions. Fuck you if you don't want to make your own decisions, own your own shit and vote for someone you want to truly represent you not a bunch of fucking hack job politicians who have no real interest in public service or a platform. Just mouthpieces and puppets for different interest groups.

  12. I remember the good old days when the progressive at the top of the ticket needed a moderate VP. Now that Biden is the presumptive POTUS no need for a progressive VP. No need to appease the progressive base. At least the hypocrisy is consistent.
