Degenerates unite.  I must admit though, I am on the NO side with Bernie.  Too far upside down at this point to bail on the market.  I thought Warren was going to lock this thing up.

For the record, I am also heavily on D to win the WH.

I also backed the truck up on Clinton to beat Trump.

    There is a pattern.

Degens always unite. Here’s to you getting it all back.

LOL. Predictit running "which candidate will come in 2nd place" markets now.

You know Ana you put me up on the candidate betting markets long ago. I’m a gambler. Sick to my stomach not putting my money where my mouth was when Bernie was at .11 or so.

  3. What is there to say. He fucking sucks. Is this news? I need to come say it everyday? Check in on the thread from time to time when I feel like punishing myself. We are looking to the future. You know something that will actually make a difference.

can a person be a Bernie supporter and not be a bro?

Sorry jw not possible. Don’t let them fool you. Say a few positive words around here and find out. It’s cool tho. They’ll all be Bros soon enough.

Who didn’t see this coming from a mile away. It’s why Trump was pissed about House intel being briefed on Russians trying to help Trump. Trump and Russians wanted to cook up a theory that the Russians are helping Bernie. And Trumpkins will eat it up

    https://www.theatlantic.com/international/archive/2014/11/hidden-author-putinism-russia-vladislav-surkov/382489/

The brilliance of this new type of authoritarianism is that instead of simply oppressing opposition, as had been the case with 20th-century strains, it climbs inside all ideologies and movements, exploiting and rendering them absurd. One moment Surkov would fund civic forums and human-rights NGOs, the next he would quietly support nationalist movements that accuse the NGOs of being tools of the West. With a flourish he sponsored lavish arts festivals for the most provocative modern artists in Moscow, then supported Orthodox fundamentalists, dressed all in black and carrying crosses, who in turn attacked the modern-art exhibitions. The Kremlin’s idea is to own all forms of political discourse, to not let any independent movements develop outside of its walls. Its Moscow can feel like an oligarchy in the morning and a democracy in the afternoon, a monarchy for dinner and a totalitarian state by bedtime.

So when Hillary had the most delegates back then, why did he want a brokered convention? He is in everyone's position last time, so it is only okay when he does it?

Seriously, I'm sorry if I am not catching some nuance but we are saying the same thing. He had the same position as everyone  last time when Hillary had more going in. So how you turn that into now everyone is shitting on democracy is bizarre.

He wanted a brokered convention to ask for some changes within the party. Like no superdelegates on the first ballot. Otherwise he’d be behind 500 delegates right now and everyone would say look Bernie has no shot. Then voters would actually think that.

He never said or insinuated that the person that lost the actual vote should be the nominee. This is what everyone on that stage agreed to at the last debate tho.

Not trying to tell you what you’re equating. I simply believe there is a significant difference.

    thanks, have a great weekend!

actually, dropout, while i have you here, i have a question too.

a couple months ago, there was a conversation (prob on this thread) about potential running mates.  and someone brought up the possibility of bernie choosing klobuchar.  and a few posts later, a bernie supporter said that a pick like that, so contrary to bernie's policies, would make them no longer support bernie at all.

it wasn't bt and i'm pretty sure it wasn't washpark, but i can't remember who it was.  was it you?  i have no follow up, i was just wondering and couldn't remember.  and if anyone else remembers, it's been bugging me.  i typically remember stupid shit like that.

No bud not me. I have my preferences but really do not care too much. Sorry to disappoint. Just returning the favor I suppose. Enjoy your weekend as well.

No, Bernie was for it and now he is against a brokered convention. Stop telling me what I'm equating. That is what I remember and still, I say so how does that make what anyone is doing now against democracy?

And who is Chris? Are you Doxxing Brisket or something?

Should you go to a brokered convention if no one has a majority?

Should the person with the most delegates be the nominee?

    Is this the same question?

Yes I’m a Bro. We doxx. Brisket is Chris Matthews everyone.

i've never thought pete had a realistic shot.  i've never said it once on this board or anywhere else.

if you're wondering why he's in favor of keeping the current rules of choosing a nominee, i don't know, you'd have to ask him.  he's always been a big bernie sanders fan, maybe he started to feel this way in 2016.

    Enjoy your pretzel

"If he doesn’t get the nomination it’s bc the DNC stole it from him. He will get the most votes and delegates and it won’t be close."

Excellent attitude and approach.  What if he gets MORE delegates than anyone else -- say, he ends up with 30%, and the next closest has 27%....then the next closest has 25%....Right there, we have 52% of the voters who picked "NOT Bernie."  But I guess those votes don't count, right?  Only the 30% that support your choice count.  That's the way ALL of our elections work (except, of course, almost none of them do -- they go to a runoff, and it's not uncommon at all for the top vote-getter to lose the runoff).  But yes, we understand -- if Bernie has even one delegate more than his next closest opponent, then any outcome that doesn't result in him getting the nomination is "THE DNC STOLE IT FROM HIM!"

"The most blatant form of voter suppression would be nullifying every state that has voted, the majority in favor of Sanders. Every vote casted would be rendered meaningless and everyone is supposed to be prepared to accept that. Such an obvious attempt at a power grab from all involved. Yet no one supporting another candidate cares. So excuse the Bros if we are prepared to do whatever we have to. We will."

Yep.  If, say, 60-70% of the Democratic primary voters vote "not Bernie," voter suppression and "rendering every vote cast meaningless' would be....nominating the guy that 60-70% of the voters DIDN'T want.  We absolutely hear and understand you.  Believe me, we hear y'all loud and clear.

"By all means go along with your center moderate positions of fuck democracy."

I'm no Bloomberg fan, didn't want him anywhere near this race, so you can dispense with that straw man.  But I find it FASCINATING that the "fuck democracy" is the position of "well, the majority of voters wanted someone other than the top vote-getter, who didn't get an outright majority of support....so let's use the brokered convention process, which has existed for a long-ass time, to try to find a candidate that the largest group of those delegates (you know, representatives of the voters -- we have a representative democracy) will support.  Maybe that will be the top vote-getter, maybe it will be someone else.  Let's use the process."  Awesome.  Yeah, I don't see why anyone is wary as hell of the Bernie Bros.  Nope, no reason at all.

It won’t be close Chris. We all know that. The candidates know that. Does a runoff election in America usually involve another vote from the people? Any poll that shows a head to head shows Bernie winning.

You need a stat class? This has been covered Chris. There are 6 plus people still running. It would be pretty difficult for anyone to get the majority. Hence why none of them are trying to drop out.

It would be unprecedented for the leader in votes and delegates to not be the nominee. Provide me an example.

If I recall right, Bernie was for a brokered convention in 2016 when he was losing to Hillary, right? That didnt make him against democracy then nor anybody now.

He was for a brokered convention yes. At no point did he say the person with the most votes and delegates shouldn’t be the nominee. Stop equating these two things. Go to the convention make a deal do what you gotta do to be happy. Don’t steal an election.

here on surly?  i only remember one specific poster being excited.

Everywhere Henry. Bernie supporters everywhere had to defend our fuck Bloomberg position. Surly included from more than one person.

But while I have you... care to address why you support someone who doesn’t support democracy? No one else has so I’d understand if you wanted to ignore it too.

Keep reading this thread, guys.  Hell, just the last few pages.

Bernie Sanders has already guaranteed us 8 years of Trump.  It doesn't matter if he wins or loses the nomination, the Trump win is already locked-in.

Sanders doesn't get the nomination?  A significant number of Dem voters who are hard-core Sanders will either stay home or hell, even vote for Trump, because that's what the rest of us deserve for failing to recognize the God Who Walks Among Us, Bernie Sanders.

Sanders gets the nomination?  He's easily attacked and destroyed on matters that will cost the Dems a material percentage of their center-left support.  Those folks may not vote Trump, but they'll sure as hell stay home, because they can't vote for Sanders.

The Bernie bros are going to get their way no matter what happens: they'll either get him as the nominee, or they'll get to pitch a self-righteous tantrum about him not being the nominee (shit, that option may be more attractive to them).

It's not much more complicated than that. And for the next eight months, we're going to get to listen to the Bernie crowd insisting that our only two choices are "Bernie or death!," when in reality, the choice is "Bernie AND death!"  Hooray for us.

You have a funny way of showing your support. You’ve stated multiple times you’d support Bernie if he wins. He will. Yet you’re bitching about it every chance you get. Not a positive word to be found.

If he doesn’t get the nomination it’s bc the DNC stole it from him. He will get the most votes and delegates and it won’t be close. Blame the Bros all you like but that’s bullshit if you’d care to see it. You had every candidate on that stage except Bernie willing to steal an election in plain sight. Not a peep from anyone. Yet you wonder why Bernie or bust is a thing. You wonder why his support is so passionate.

The next time I open the voter suppression thread I’ll try not to vomit. Complaining about Russians, the electoral college, gerrymandering etc. All that pales in comparison to what happened on that debate stage. The most blatant form of voter suppression would be nullifying every state that has voted, the majority in favor of Sanders. Every vote cast would be rendered meaningless and everyone is supposed to be prepared to accept that. Such an obvious attempt at a power grab from all involved. Yet no one supporting another candidate cares. So excuse the Bros if we are prepared to do whatever we have to. We will.

Y’all sure like slippery slopes. Wish I could go back and read all that conservative garbage y’all used to spew. Not seeing where it would lead. Fuck when Bloomberg announced there was a goddamn center moderate circle jerk. Not seeing where it would lead. By all means go along with your center moderate positions of fuck democracy. Maybe you can get your way. Be sure you bring your ski gear.

But yes it’s the Bros fault. We are the ones crying. Have you watched the msm? You sound like a Chris Matthews. We won Brisket. Get over it and support the nominee or stfu about it bc your support fucking sucks.

  12. Not letting this shit go. Especially after it got called a shitty take and it seems to be getting brushed over by the msm. Stated it was my only takeaway from last night in the debate thread.

Just nonchalantly throwing around stealing elections. Outrageous. Why should the person with the most delegates not get the nomination? If you support another candidate besides Bernie why do you feel it’s ok for the few to circumvent the will of the people?

Kyle always brings the ether and seems to be able to expound and explain with ease so I’ll leave this here. Don’t disappoint me surly.

You're wrong on both counts. Both Clinton 2016 and Obama 2008 had a majority of pledged delegates. Obama was close though, but he still had 51% of them.  Edwards took a handful of delegates from 3rd place in 08.

    From the wiki link above

Neither candidate received enough delegates from the state primaries and caucuses to achieve a majority without superdelegate votes.

Clinton beat Bernie 2271 to 1820 in pledged delegates. It was also a 2 horse race from the starting gate, so it was impossible for a winner to not have a majority of pledged delegates.

Wut? Does majority in a primary not mean reaching a certain threshold? Not just majority like the most. The number was 2382 for a majority.

By the end of the race, Clinton had won 2,200 pledged delegates to Sanders' 1,831 pledged delegates, for a pledged delegate margin that was about six times larger than the margin that Barack Obama had won over her in 2008.[7][circular reference]On June 6, the Associated Press reported that Hillary Clinton had earned enough delegates to clinch the presidential nomination, including superdelegates.

The BS in both was about the potential for superdelegates to overturn an election. In neither case did that happen. They broke for the pledged delegate winner both times. Bernie just got beat.

Yes he got beat. Imagine the fucking meltdowns to be had if he tried to take it from Clinton.
