  1. AUSTIN (KXAN) — With active cases of COVID-19 in slight decline around Texas, a projection by modelers at the University of Texas at Austin raises new concerns. It suggests there will be 15,000 more deaths in Texas over the next three weeks.

The model by UT’s College of Natural Sciences predicts that more than 23,000 Texans will die as a result of COVID-19 by Aug. 31. Currently 8,459 Texans have died since the pandemic began. The predicted escalation would represent a 177% increase by Aug. 31.

Haven’t been paying attention to the COVID situation for a few weeks and this was the first post I landed on. Since we’re now at “Aug 31” it seems like a good time to reconcile UT’s prediction with the present numbers. Not a “gotcha” question because I honestly have no idea. Just hoping someone with a good grasp on the numbers can chime in with a reasonable comparison.

  2. It’s August in the Houston area, 5:00 PM and I’m chilling outside without breaking a sweat. This isn’t normal.

From Austin, but lived/worked in Houston for about ten years before eventually moving to the hill country area west of Austin. It’s nice out here, but in all honesty I’d take Houston all day over the shit that is going down in the city of Austin.
  3. Most 1st Amendment displays are done in groups with other like minded protestors, and they are usually accompanied with signs stating their protest concerns.

One guy walking around with an AK variant and melting in with unarmed protestors looks a bit different. Will be interesting to hear a bit more about the driver and why he was driving around such a hot spot with a weapon at the ready. Was he a licensed carrier and etc.
