Ha, saying the 05 team was playing down to OSU at halftime is an understatement. We were down 16 at half.
2009 team was up 13-10 on Wyoming at halftime in game 2 of the season. Obviously the A&M game that year was fairly close and the close call against Nebraska in the title game.
Anyone who thinks we are just going to roll all season is mistaken. We are gonna have a game where we have to beat Baylor or Iowa State or Houston 31-23 or some such.
Getting up for one game and playing week in and week out to a certain standard of excellence are two entirely different things. The latter is only possible IMO with a player-led team that has a really high level of maturity and focus.
We know for certain this team can play with and beat anybody. What we don't know is if they can do that every week.

I think Sark has a difficult task at hand in making sure this group of players stays focused and doesn't spend all week sniffing their own farts. IMO, this game is going to tell us something about this team's maturity and focus.

You can't in todays game. They fire off and run block and still throw it with RPOs. Terrible time to be an outside LB.

Man, Ford's instincts were terrible here. He blocked himself. Sweat took up two bodies and left a gap for Ford. Had he trusted himself he could've shot it and got a TFL behind the lead blocker. Instead he tried to scrape over the top, blocked himself, and left a cutback hole for the rb. For shame.
watch 33 drop into coverage. do they not still teach to read the oline off the ball to see whether they're coming down field to run block?

Shit, well before the sanctions, when were booking flights to and from a former soviet republic, the boy -- an aviation nut -- tells me "no fucking flights on aeroflot, dad." I assured him that I'd already excluded it from my searches.
Getting on a Russian plane, at any point in time, is a bigger gamble with my life than I'd ever want to take.
My dream fishing trip has always been Kamchatka but even before the war I was just too big of a pussy to get on a Russian-operated helicopter. Between the 'maintenance' and BAC level of the pilot, the risk/reward just wasn't there for me.

I'm trying to think of how much money you'd have to pay me to get on a Russian plane these days. It's a number, that's for sure.

I'm fascinated that Iran, China and North Korea continue making decisions that keeps them as pariah states.
I can see China and NK telling the region to fuck off because they have nuclear weapons.
But Israel can obliterate Iran with just a little help from the US.
uhhhh, china ain't a pariah state.

Really? Damn, that sucks.
I try to tell myself my $/turns is low because I never wait in a lift line.
It was easier when a single flex was $800 a season, but it's almost doubled in price.

Move to Aspen only to be shocked by lift prices? Same theory applies.how 'bout you take a lap, chief.

Loochador pod isn't worth your time. Billy spends an hour trying to convince himself the offense can carry the defense and salvage a good season. Shocker, he gets there.
i don't know, man, that sounds pretty fucking entertaining to me.

Your body and your mind are so intertwined that if you obsess about one without dealing with the other, eventually the chances are the pendulum is going to swing back the other way. What you are doing is so hard, and I respect the hell out of the reasons you are doing it. I wonder what a shrink would say about your desire to eat and drink to your heart's content and beyond? You've called it 'fun', but I would assume they would say there's something deeper there that compels you to pursue it to excess. I feel like somehow you have to get to a point mentally where you are at peace with your relationship with food because you understand why that relationship has been so unhealthy in the past and you've dealt with it.

apologies if already posted but an article written by a Russian dissident before he disappeared to Siberia (should be free for all to read).
It's kinda painful to read the hope in his words for a democratic and free Russia.

Don't worry, Georgia would trample Genghis Khan and his hordes. We are a hot story right now because of the win just like when we left Columbus. The media will be right back to fluffing Georgia soon enough, just like USC in 2005.
It's actually kind of eerily similar as USC had back-to-back AP titles heading into that season. We are not 2005 good but there are a lot of parallels between the seasons.
eh, i don't agree. that 2005 team had skins on the wall from the previous year.
that said, I like what VY said post-game last night when comparing this win to going into the shoe in 2005 and how they found out what they were made of early in the season.
i wonder if this team has the player leadership to stay focused the rest of the year? that 2005 team knew one slip up would cost them and they weren't going to let it happen again.

one thing that jumps out watching his throws last night is his placement on those quick flare routes to the outside. he puts it in the perfect spot so the route runner never has to break stride and throw off the timing of the play. that ain't easy.

... because I fucking love it.
Walking down the strip on Saturday evening in Tuscaloosa, wearing burnt orange, any number of young, drunk jackasses dropped the "horns down" on me and my party. It felt so cliched, so unoriginal, and yet so freaking awesome. I guess Alabama has an elephant or some fucking mascot which makes no sense? I can't be arsed enough to give a shit to know or care why. But everybody knows the Texas goddamn Longhorns. So my response, invariably, was "bring it on."
Barstool had set up some outdoor event before the game on the main drag, and was we walked by I could hear Dave Portnoy talking up the Alabama crowd. This fanbase was so classy, and so mature, and had seen it all that they were going to be the outlier, he said. They were above giving the horns down. But guess what? They weren't. I'm not sure how it looked on television, but everytime the stadium scoreboards showed a video feed of the crowd, it showed delightfully dimwitted students and kids and their parents throwing the horns down. Every time.
Well guess what, motherfuckers. We love that shit.
You hate us? We love that you hate us. We expect it. You're going to hate us even more when we show up next year and take our place among the league elite. Aggies hate Texas more than they love our school. That's really what the Horns down means. "Ok, you may be better than us, but at least I know how to contort my hand like this."
As Sark said, embrace the hate. Because there's going to be more and more of it.
thank you.
embrace it.

We didn't have an AD Mitchell to take advantage of Worthy's double/triple teaming last year. That was essentially how teams slowed us down tremendously last year. Love him, but JWhitt isn't that guy.
Quinn is also locked in. If they keep him clean as he develops his pocket presence, this will be a very very fun season and a NYC trip for Quinn.
did i see a 'stat' last night that 3 of the last 5 QBs to beat bama have won the heisman?

The one where turner runs over to his side right at the snap? I’ll assume he had his assignment picked out and then turner jogged over right before the snap and caused some confusion.
i was thinking the same thing. he probably had already decided where he was going in the second level and then was like wtf?

She was giving me the sucky fucky eyes when we were sitting at the gate waiting to board our flight. But all I saw were the beaver teeth.
