  1. It's hard to tell.  They have been mediocre at best for the past 20 years.  I lived in Pittsburgh from 2000 - 2004 and Larry Fitzgerald was there during that time.  I'm convinced that if he had he played at any other D1 school, he would have won Heisman.  In Pittsburgh at that time, if you weren't a Steeler or Mario Lemieux, you could get no ink.

Interesting.  I always assumed that the Cotton Bowl was that large due to the Cotton Bowl game and Red River.

I wonder if either would have been able to maintain a viable fanbase if they had remained in a power conference.

Consider the case of Pitt as well.  Their story is similar to SMU and Rice.  I don't know their attendance figures, (and I'm too lazy to look them up) but I doubt they are much better than SMU.

Ovi’s reaction is exactly why sports are so fucking awesome

    Indeed!

As someone who "gave up" on Ovechkin a couple of years ago, I could not be happier for him.  To see the joy on his face made me really, really happy for him.  He deserved this and I don't think I've ever been happier for any player.  He had to wait a long time and he put in the work to earn it.

    Per aggy "gunnysacks":

austin gets sick and tired of hearing about SEC-SEC and how the Ags put one over on them in realignment.

She's wrong on that.  I rarely get tired of hearing how aggy put one over on SEC-SEC in realignment.

  5. I referred to pucks just bouncing the Caps way  in this thread before the series started and tonight's first period exemplified that.  Vegas barely misses on an excellent chance to score early in the period and they inexplicably miss on a wide open net on the power play.  On the other end, the pucks bounce in perfect position for the Caps.

Doc is the best there is. I say this every single year -I love everything about the Stanley Cup playoffs but I especially love Doc’s call.

Can’t think of another broadcaster that is this good at calling his sport.

He is a pleasure to listen to.  The only comparison I have is Vin Scully.
