We have gone 2,177 days since there was real realignment news.

This is the best idea in this thread (counting the Shaggy years too) in a long time.  If we could get a clock that counts up like the one that used to count down on the football board, that would be awesome.

The general tendency for sportscasters to latch onto a phrase and drive it into the ground is a special kind of annoying.  "Quarterback room" is the flavor of the day.  A few years ago it was "spin the ball".  Before that, "high point the ball".

All actually have meaning, but the overwhelming follow-the-leader approach to commentary makes me ragey.

    "Run fits"

    "Score the basketball"

    Both make me irrationally angry.

In DFW I see aggy friends on fbook rsvp-ing for "SEC Happy Hour"... yes, the fans/grads of an athletic conference have a joint happy hour.

I would be surprised if anyone outside of aggy is there.  They would ruin happy hour everyone else.

Growing up in the Washington area, you could count on 2 things:

    1) The Capitals would absolutely suck.
    2) When the Capitals somehow didn't suck, there was no way, no how, never, ever, they'd get to the Finals.

Happy for this team, though I'm not a big follower, I'll watch a few games.  Really interesting final, Team of Destiny(?) vs. Team of (Finally!) Destiny...

So I've been a Caps fan starting basically in the Ovechkin era not long after I moved here.  There have definitely been better teams that couldn't get past round 2 and sometimes they were just unlucky.  Starting with the game 3 double OT goal in Columbus that came from a lucky bounce, the Caps have been getting a lot of lucky bounces and the other team hasn't.  In fact, if you look at the goal Tampa Bay didn't score last night, that should have tied the game but it somehow, inexplicably, did not go in.  Tampa looked like an old Caps team in their unlucky breaks.

The persecution complex on the part of DC fans here is real and embarrassing sometimes.  I hope the Caps win to end the whining of DC fans and to take that away as something for the fans here to bitch about.

This will be an interesting series as Vegas has looked unstoppable at times.  But, if the breaks keep falling the Caps way, I think it will be a good series.  There is some fight in this group.

  5. And a  game 7 there will be.

Oshie looked entirely different this game than he has in this series because they moved Backstrom to his line.

Wilson played like an animal.  I can't wait until Game 7.

I graduated the year before Columbine. I remember some fights in schools with relatively minor consequences (detention, maybe ISS). I really wonder if we need more minor violence such as fights in schools to let off some of the steam. I remember in middle school the bullied kids eventually getting fed up and fighting their bullies. It seemed to resolve most of the frustration. Does that happen anymore?

I've wondered this for some time myself.  At my school, there were two boys determined to fight and the coaching staff actually got permission from their parents and set up a boxing match in the field house with no spectators.  I never heard the official results, but I heard rumors that by the end, they were both too tired to move.  This obviously is never coming back.

Back then, there were also gun racks in pick-up so kids could shoot doves after school and that's obviously not coming back either.

  7. Clear head shot is a stretch in my mind.  Wilson at 6'4" is a full head taller.  Looks to me like it was the shoulder but I'll admit I'm biased.

Aside from that, totally different result than we're used to seeing out of the Caps.  Ovechkin actually did something memorable at the end of playoff game against the Pens.
