I noticed this, and it got lost in the shuffle a page back I think but the DPS has been arresting, detaining, and charging migrants with criminal trespass. I do not know if that began with the takeover of Shelby Park or further details, however. Prior to the governor's maneuver, there were the various usual actions taken by BP. People may have forgotten that the US has reverted to Title 8 for immigration processing (see below) now that the pandemic is over. The Coast Guard essentially does the same with migrants that arrive in Florida via watercraft (IIRC) if the watercraft cannot be turned away safely.  Just because a migrant is received by the BP at river's edge does not mean that the migrant will remain in the US.

    Title 8:

Individuals who unlawfully cross the U.S. Southwest border:

    • will generally be processed under Title 8 expedited removal authorities in a matter of days
    • will be barred from reentry to the United States for at least five years if ordered removed; and
    • would be presumed ineligible for asylum under the proposed Circumvention of Lawful Pathways regulation, absent an applicable exception.

The Right loves talking about immigrants following the laws towards naturalization, while totally disregarding immigrant border laws, tracks about as well as their christian narrative while allows for immigrants to drown.  It's almost like they're idiot hypocrites.

Thanks, I do enjoy disrupting everyone patting each other on the back for groupthink.

A straight up admission to trolling, not educating.  Anybody writing a rebuttal is just wasting time--LL isn't here for that.  He's disturbed the hive in his own mind, but not really. I enjoy thinking and reading, so challenging me is an opportunity.  But that's not how Republicans want their education and followers to think.  They are the ones limiting education and critical thought.  But I'm just preaching to the hive of critical thinkers on this board, and not the trolls, whose brand is banning books.

I learned about 'firehawks' today. Apparently, some kites and falcons in Australia will take advantage of wildfires by grabbing a smoldering stick and dropping it an unburned area to start a new fire and stir up prey animals. Wild...

Firehawks are damn interesting.  I'll add shrikes, too, and found in Texas:  Famous for impaling their victims, these songbirds first use a special maneuver to break the necks of small rodents.

It’s no secret that shrikes are formidable predators. The grayscale songbirds of the open country might look as harmless as mockingbirds, but these black-masked “butcherbirds,” as they’re known, pack more fierceness ounce for ounce than any other bird in the country.

As the new study reveals, once shrikes induce paralysis with a precise bite to the neck, they roll their heads rapidly to vigorously shake their immobilized food. According to the researchers, this back-and-forth whipping motion generates accelerations of up to six g-forces—roughly the same amount of force felt by passengers on high-g rollercoasters, or the whiplash experienced by victims of low-speed, rear-end car crashes. This is more than enough force to snap the vertebrae of a large rat or break a mouse’s neck, and it’s all generated by the roll of a Loggerhead Shrike’s head.

Whit was a fucking idiot most of the season. Nice guy but not smart. Dot was going to put Roy down but Whit stopped her and then failed to secure Roy. Then chased him alone when he could have taken a couple swat guys. Goes into a dugout alone. Then fails to pull the trigger. Would have been justified. But he was essentially a traffic cop.

It’s left unsaid what happens with Roy. Could he get out? Will he escape somehow? He’ll be beaten senseless in jail. I wanted him dead.

    Spoiler

The sheriff limps off and is soon fighting hand to hand combat and getting stronger, despite the belly shot.  Afterwards, his blind kid is sitting there pontificating with Dot, despite several dead bodies on the property that he most likely had a hand with.  Whit is one of the few fighting alongside the agents that doesn't wear a jacket, goes after Roy and fires presumably into the ground, despite Roy being the only thing in front of him and closing fast.  I was for him firing into Roy's shoulder at any time prior, so he'd drop the knife but whatever.  Then Roy still goes to prison.

The least likely event in the history of least likely events is Rs running out of money.  I’m hoping for massive three way air collision, as it is much more likely, than all the donor money getting used up.

But if there was ever a Republican $$$ vacuum, it's Trump.  And if Trump loses while taking all their money, I'm down.

They are doing this, half the country's voters are immune. Messaging doesn't matter anymore. It's a coin flip whether the country gets to continue or if it ceases to exist.

Accountability is currently being actively vilified. Nothing their orange god or any Republicans tout benefits them at all.

    And for immigration:

“When a stranger sojourns with you in your land, you shall not do him wrong. You shall treat the stranger who sojourns with you as the native among you, and you shall love him as yourself, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt: I am the Lord your God." Leviticus 19:33-34

“When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne. Before him will be gathered all the nations, and he will separate people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. And he will place the sheep on his right, but the goats on the left. Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, ..."  Matthew 25: 31-46

Anyways, there's a lot about immigration in the Bible, but what do I know, I'm a filthy heathen?  I'm of the mind to offer citizenship to those that qualify and broaden the tax base.  Regardless, Republican racism is the only unifying condition for their continued worship of their orange god.

do you live in a british crime drama?

Ha!  Can't we all watch a live or 48 hour video feed from every side of our homes on our cell phones now days?  I can't imagine having an armed militia and all that land and not being able to monitor my property.  But I can't imagine living in a place you don't have to lock every window and door either.

Edit: We live off Bladensburg Road--the road the British marched up during the War of 1812 and defeated the colonists on their way to burning the capitol and the White House in 1814.  So maybe it's a little like a British crime drama.

I think it’s a Roy vs Dot showdown.

Also because Dot has mentioned twice to Roy that she was going to kill him.

There have been many odd things, especially if it's supposed to be 2019 or whatever it references to the timeline at the beginning.  Cameras don't really seem to exist for one, and people move around regardless with way too much ease.  But they do this in all good guy/bad guy movies.  I see cameras everywhere, outside of homes, inside of homes, inside of homes facing outside, in cars, on bicycle helmets, all the way down the road and at intersections, which was the same in 2019, aside from maybe dashboard cams.  But this isn't a big city, so maybe that gets a pass.  Roy and his son fuck too much stuff up regularly not to have visible trails all over the place. They're not discreet or quiet.

The lawyer had to know he was going up to die--alone, didn't notify anybody, early evening, unarmed, to threat bargain with the devil.  It was a suicide mission.

Dot goes into the room and makes a call facing away from the door?  Then leaves the gun outside at the well/trough.  WTF.  Nobody hears the shots at the trough?

Anybody that watched David Koresh's compound explode knows that this isn't going to end well for them.  There would be a larger army for one, and snipers.  Roy just rides around on a horse, devil may care.  If the son wanders into camp, they have to divide--a leader that loses his son, which then shows up blinded and disowned has to be a bad leadership sign.

Meh we stuffed the run that’s what those guys do. I was hoping Burke and hill would get some pressure they didn’t. Sweat was never going to sack penix. Murphy got close. Our tackles played fine but what you need against WA is Edge and no delayed blitz bullshit.

Washington has driven straight up the middle, from the corner, and everywhere.

This game makes me feel like we got Horn-Frogged last week. The Husky team that showed up last week wasn't getting dumb-shit fouls and Penix was lights out.

This team looks like they've been shitting their pants since the plane landed in Houston.

Texas got handcuffed by officiating early.  Zebras let them play more in the second half, but they never called Washington for shit.  When holding gets called, it opens the pash rush too.

All of those plays were being connected on last week. Helps when the DB is keeping up with the WR and pestering him. Ours never even knew where the ball was at all, allowing the WR to get in the best position to make the catch.

DB grabbed multiple times and never turned around. Zebras choose when to call and when not to.

I'm pleased to read this page. We knew our weaknesses with edge-rush and safeties going into this.

When they were killing us as we rushed four, I thought, "Why not increase the pressure if you can't stop the completions." Clearly, I'm some sort of football genius because that's what we appeared to do.

Pressuring Penix isn't enough, evidently. He forced to leave the pocket or stand in the middle of closing rushers and still found receivers and delivered beautiful passes.

Better edge rush and safety play may have blunted their attack.

Our problems lie in shooting off our foot on offense with stupid penalties and vulnerability to the blitz, I think. I wonder if Washington saw something about the trajectory of Ewers' passes and actually schemed to bat down passes.

Hats off to the Huskies. They hot-dogged it and behaved like dicks, but I compliment their play.

So  close we were. So promising the future.

I was thinking no way Penix could sustain this for two halves, but he did enough.  But despite Penix and two fumbles and a shit third quarter, the Longhorns still had a chance.  Texas also had a big hand in beating themselves.

Edit: Shit, UT8 beat me to it.

fucking NPR this morning had the Georgia Republican party chair on air. Asked him something about DoTArd's not being on the ballot in Colorado. Guy said the constitution says to be president you have to be 35, natural born citizen, and lived in country for 14 years. Said nothing about #4. NPR pussy doing the interview just let is slide, no push back, nothing.

edit: linky poo if you want to listen

     https://www.npr.org/2023/12/22/1221128946/georgia-gop-chair-discusses-colorado-ruling-disqualifying-trump-from-primary-bal

Probably had to sign an agreement that they'd present no pushback in order for the Republican Chairman to be a guest on the air.
