Sark got HIS guy. Was Rod a candidate? Yes. Was O a possibility? My gut says he wouldn't turn down a chance to beat LSU & we had the money to get him here. But if you've been paying attention you'd know that Sark wanted a guy that he knew he could hang onto for a few years to avoid the trouble Saban had at Bama. He saw how difficult it was to have that much staff turnover every year and that's why I think this guy was actually number 1 on the board. So what's he do? He goes and gets an under the radar, up & coming, NFL guy. Make no mistake, people in the Dolphins organization rave, RAVE, about this guy. I had one NFL coordinator reach out to me personally and talk about how this guy is going to be a HC one day. That's how good he is & Sark got him at a discount because he's buying low. This sets up the defensive side nicely because you know what you have in PK, you have a natural successor in Nansen should PK move on, & now you have a guy that can come along after that should he prove himself as capable as what I've been told. Is he going to struggle recruiting? Maybe, but keep in mind the NIL at UT is a huge weapon for every coach & don't be surprised if T-Choice accompanies him when visiting some of the higher profile recruits - at least until he gets his feet under him in that area.

All in all this is an B+ hire with a chance for us to look back on it as an A+ here in 3-4 years.

So much so there's rumors aswrlin' that Chip may leave UCLA for the Seahawks OC job.  It is well known he hates recruiting.  He hates it way more now, especially since we don't have the swinging dick wallet Texas has.

Fucking hell. Why do we always have to fire our shitty coaches and they voluntarily leave other schools?

I like the current times when our worries are, "But what if our nose guard is only a 320 pound NFL prospect and not a 360 pound Outland Trophy winner?  We might only be ranked preseason number 2 in the country instead of preseason number 1 if this isn't fixed immediately!"

    Versus a few years ago:

"Look, all we need to have happen this offseason is for Swoopes to get a lot better at QB, Shawn Watson to completely change his offensive scheme and get a lot better at OC, a few of our lightly recruited 3 star true freshmen come in ready to start on the OL, Dylan Haines needs to surprise some people at safety, Breckyn Hager needs to gain 30 pounds of muscle, stop having games where we lose because 3 kicks get blocked, stop having games we lose because we mess up the coin toss and give the other team the ball both halves, stop losing games because we punt to the other team when we don't have enough timeouts to stop the clock, hire an assistant to be the "gameday" coach so Charlie Strong can focus on other things, maybe hire an actual athletic director this year instead of trying year 3 of an alum doing it on an interim fill-in basis like when one of the other parents has to cover a little league game, try to complete all assistant hires this year without requiring the President of the University to fly to some nobody from Tulsa's house and beg him at his front door to work for us, figure out how to replace the 10 guys we kicked off the team for weed, ... and figure out how to feature our playmakers, like Jake Oliver and Kyle Porter."

It's like they never really learned they went from jimbo chasing stars to win a stupid award to Elko chasing bread to win another stupid mythical award. A much dumber mythical national championship.

Colorado won that award last year and much good it did to them

That class on paper was at least impressive. This portal group...not so much.

I think the gutting has to due with financial issues.  According to the Buf Elliot and some of thr guys on the Saturday's Down Podcast the stuff coming out about how much of an NIL discount having Saban as their coach got Bama is shocking. And as a result their NIL budget is severely lacking now that they have to operate on equal terms with everyone else.

Yeah, coaching at Sioux Falls prepares you for the Bama job.

There's no question he's a good coach, but I think making the leap to a program like Bama directly after the goat retired will ruin him. Maybe I'm wrong and he eventually builds back and gets the juggernaut rolling again, but I have serious doubts.

I could be wrong but he has that K State underdog vibe. Not sure he's a good fit at a major program.
