    One slight criticism.

When trailing by multiple runs, you need base runners. It seemed like there was too much hacking at first pitches .. which really plays in the pitcher’s favor. Work the friggin’ count.

That approach usually worked pretty well under Coach Gus.

  2. Ditto on the aggy emphasis, but they serve solid basic Tex-Mex.  I've not been since they moved from the Inwood location to Walnut Hill/Central Expressway around four years ago, but since they've been in business for 50+ years, I can't imagine they've screwed the pooch too much with the latest location change.

Did something similar while on a 18 month project.   Hertz even let me leave the car on their lot when I went home on the weekend.  It was nice to avoid the weekly paperwork.   Had to work out the deal with the local manager.

I did something like this with Avis on a couple of projects.  Monthly rates and letting me park at their lot and having them wash and service the car when I went home on some weekends was a solid deal.

  4. This thread reminds me of why I follow a road warrior business dress code.  No need to overthink silly stuff like "what color ____ will I wear today."

Navy blue or gray suits.  Solid white or blue shirts.  Reddish ties (when I wear a tie, rarely lately).  Black lace-up shoes.  Black belt.  Not flashy, but uncomplicated and I'm pretty sure that my attire has never been an issue in a business setting.

  5. Even though you can buy cold beer in Texas at a grocery or liquor store, a store or a restaurant is not allowed to have an outdoor sign that states the words "Cold Beer."  The theory is they don't want folks to be somehow "induced" into consuming the devil's brew.  Genius.

The TABC got blistered in the Sunset Review prepared for the current legislative session.  It begins with:

"Even though more than 80 years have passed since the end of Prohibition, in many ways, Texas still regulates the alcoholic beverage industry as if it were 1935."

This makes me smile and drool at the same time.  Haven't heard where his location will be but am looking forward to sampling his work when he opens.  Might make a run to Whitney before he closes on 2/3 as I have heard the same as you regarding his product.

D Mag's blog has the deets on the new location in Cowtown:   https://www.dmagazine.com/food-drink/2019/01/flores-barbecue-leaves-whitney-and-heads-to-fort-worth/

So a guy with zero arrests ever and a navy vet just goes out guns blazing against the cops? That doesn't really make sense to me. I support the police, but something isn't right here.

Agreed.  There may be more to this story.

Want to watch an awesome performance, McIvor against aggy in 1983, dude had a cannon

To be fair, he had a 30 mph wind behind him to help his performance, but what a stud! Thanks for posting that game.  It brought back memories of how dominating the defense was under Akers and defensive coordinator, David McWilliams.  Horns crushed aggy in the third quarter with some spectacular pass plays.  So many great names playing for Texas back then.

Edit:  It also reminded me of how much of what happened in 1983 would be classified as "targeting" and how little of it would now be called "holding."

We do. Our play is to throw the ball around randomly and then launch a three.

Absolutely this!  I am no B-ball guru, but I've been saying this since his first season.  There has gotta be a way come out and do a play that gets you a high percentage shot.  Shaka's teams dribble too much. Pass, pop and shoot.  I don't see this ending well for Shaka at UT.

  11. Rick McIvor -- Way too many injuries.  He was widely heralded when he signed with Texas, but was never a full season starter.  He ended up splitting QB time with the likes of Jon Aune, Donnie Little, Robert Brewer, Robb Moerschell and Todd Dodge. Fittingly, his Longhorn career ended with the 10-9 loss to Georgia in the Cotton Bowl game.  He ended up getting drafted and playing in the in the NFL for 6 games over 2 years, but didn't complete a single pass.

My FIL (from Abilene) makes this concoction he calls "burrito stuff". Basically it's jimmy dean maple sausage, a couple of pounds of ground round, a can of potatoes, a can of corn, a can of RoTel, a can of carrots and a few of those pickled sweet jalapenos. The ways we eat it are in a tortilla, on top of chips nacho style with cheese or on top of Fritos like Frito pie. I found a 32oz High Life with which to enjoy this meal. Zero shits given at this point. "What goes on top?" You ask. Well pace does my friend. Talk all the shit you want, but Pace is my friend for unhealthy concoctions. This meal eats. ed24b2d00464e84d16a99c206d99e22b.jpg

Perhaps a long-lost friend of Vic Mackey?
