Yeah, give me a break. I’ve never been to Richardson, I’m sure it has some ugly pockets. But I’m from harlingen, I probably could’ve beaten the shit out of basically any* Berkner kid back in the day. “Hood” my ass.

*So long as it was a freshman band or chess club member or something. Still counts.

Another story I totally forgot about.  When I was the head coach of a flag football team (this same group of boys) years ago when they were kindergartners, back then we were good too, but I’m more in charge of protecting the whole bunch without a separate, paid coach. And these kids are like my own. Anyway, we win handily and there is almost a fight between one of the high school refs and the opposing coach. I was 37-38 at the time and this guy was 45-50, huge and a meathead. He was yelling and cussing at this 16-yo ref - all in front of 6 year old boys. The ref had had enough and resorted to antagonizing this meathead. I don’t think he thought the guy would actually do anything, but I knew this guy had lost it and was looking for a reason to beat the kid’s ass and he was providing plenty of ammo. I turned my back to the coach and said “you are about to get your ass kicked if you keep smarting off to this guy.  Turn around and walk to the parking lot.”  He did, but kept turning around to talk. I had to escort him to his car.

I’d estimate in 75% of games in which I’m either the head coach or assistant coach, there is some conflict with the umps from one of the head coaches. In 50% there is conflict between the coaches. In 25%, the parents are mouthing off considerably. In 2%, the parents are loudly talking shit to each other. In 1% of cases, there’d be the potential to come to blows if cooler heads did not prevail.  This is probably 300 games.

Does Garland have the Taliban?  I rest my case.

As someone that grew up in Garland, I can inform on the "hoodness" of Berkner.  A lot of Lake Highlands area kids go to Berkner.  That part of Lake Highlands is the worst area as far as crime goes in the whole of the metroplex.  Serious Blood territory

  2. Heat and Marlins have a Neon uni.  Surprised the Dolphins didn't do it for their color rush.  I like the idea.

we need to get to a point where people fly like in the movie 5th Element, but take it a step further.  Upon entering the airport, you present yourself and your ticket then are promptly gassed unconscious. Then taken into a small tube in the aircraft and stowed.  airplane flies w/o issue and you are revived at your destination.   no more dustups between passengers, FA.  no more dickhead behavior on board.  no more eating onions and fish during the flight.  just cargo with a heartbeat moving from point A to point B.  We lost the right to have nice things a long time ago.

Yes please and thank you.  Are you sure this wouldn't be a nice thing?

  4. Ms Marvel paid off well.  Would have liked more episodes in the middle of the season.  The history and family stuff were great.   Needed more Great granny smoke show and info on the bangle, but given the post credits scene i guess that origin is going to be deal with in The Marvels.  6 episode format didn't help this show.  There were some great things in there, but the villains were just plain bad.  One episode extra could have given them a luka time to flesh that out.

For a large part of my life, I read a lot of history and sort of envied people of other eras.  People that lived in a time and place where life was not so easy.  People who were challenged greatly, faced long odds, risked the highest costs and who ultimately prevailed.  From a US perspective, they are the people that fought in the revolution, the civil war, in WWII and for civil rights here at home.

We very well might be entering such an era.  My perspective of envy has changed considerably with age and fatherhood, but I do take some solace in this -- If things continue on their current trajectory, my children will be part of a generation living in such a time and place.  They will be called, challenged greatly, face long odds, risk much, and... they might prevail.  As dark as things may feel today, the ultimate outcome is not pre-ordained.  Our kids will get to write the final chapter of this period of history.

What kind of bullshit is this?

I finally saw this and thought it was just ok.  I liked that Raimi broke out of the Marvel sameness in parts of it.

I'll agree that Wanda's motivation didn't make much sense when you was supposedly already chastened at the end of WV.  I was still rooting for her against the illuminati randos though.

    Randos?

This has been good - better than my expectations (which were low - reasons below).

Disney took a big risk doing this as there are major constraints to telling a compelling story about Obi Wan between Episodes 3 and 4. He's supposed to be "laying low" and watching over Luke and they wanted to create a miniseries about Obi Wan doing...something.

I think they are doing a good job with a side story where Obi Wan gets to know Leia (thus the reason Leia is sending for him in Ep 4 - she's one of the few who knows where he is) and they have a little bit of an adventure in the process.

There's no way anyone was going to be happy with this because of those constraints. Given those constraints I'm pleasantly surprised at this series and think it's fun and entertaining. This last episode was especially engaging for me.

I think we're all spoiled by Mandalorian, but remember that Favreau and company had a lot more to work with in terms of time and with a new character to do something incredible. The writers/producers don't have that luxury with this series.

    Just MHO.

Should have done a Vader series instead.  There's enough fukkery in the recent comic runs to fuel the franchise for years. This series would be a few episode arc in that series.

Read the last 2 or 3 pages and it was a beating. Kenobi makes the boba fett series look like it was directed by Tommy Wiseau. And boba imo didn’t receive the kind of criticism kenobi is right now. I really believe that kenobi as a character is super relatable to Star Wars fans and that plays a big role as to why he’s up there in the ranks. So when we finally got a show with him as the main character, the bar was going to be set super high for Disney. I think overall they’re doing a pretty good job with some questionable calls here or there  but that’s Star Wars. Have fun and if you can’t then wait till they come out with a crap ton of other stuff later.

I do want to note that all the dick riding for Filoni is hilarious. Ahsoka was horrible in the movie and first 2 seasons of the CW but turned out to be badass. While it’s only six episodes long let this series grow and finish as a whole before we right if off as failure.

I'm confused by your statement on Filoni.  Ahsoka was meant by Lucas to be killed off at that point to further Anakin's turn.  Filoni convince him they could develop her into a great character.

Hey man, I think you’re a great poster. But that was a poor wagon hitch. We’ve all done it.

…because we aren’t happy.  And a big chunk don’t know how to find happiness day to day. And that is someone else’s fault.

There are unhappy people all over the world.  We don't de-escalate.  We don't solve conflicts without violence.  That is the history of our country. And for the duration of that history it has been by the gun. We vilify solving a little down period with sex or people expressing feelings.  Its in our media.  Is in our politics.even when the situation calls for the police to taser often a gun is 'mistakenly'.  Thing back to Amber Guyger's testimony upon seeing a guy in her apartment.  Even the replacement theory stuff.  Go have sex and have some kids if you're a young man.  Spread your seed.  Instead you kill 10 people.  This mentality must stop.  Its bigger than church or school.  Its what we do.

Is it really that surprising that most people don’t want their steak served with ketchup, or salt from some guy’s forearm?

    Coloring the lanes is ketchup?

Hey guess what- mixed reviews in the Twitter comments!

Is it really that surprising most people want more than bologna on their sandwhich or don't just wear khakis and a polo everyday?  I like it, but its bland.
