I was able to make an appt. for my mom this coming Monday to get the Moderna vaccine at the Giddings Brookshire Bros. She is 76. Very pleased!

Does anyone have any insight into why Fauci, the NIH director, and the other top guys are choosing the Moderna vaccine?
I just assumed it was because the NIH and Moderna worked together on the vaccine.

How do you go about scheduling your second shot through that since this could be a onetime deal? I signed myself and the wife up just in case, but gonna need more info before we actually show up for it.
I'd be interested in knowing how your appt. went. I called one of the employee health locations that had appts. available tomorrow and the lady I spoke with didn't know anything about it.

Moderna will apply today for FDA authorization.

The only thing I see is you only get that 5% travel on purchases in the Chase portal. Those aren't always the best deals. Chase Sapphire Reserve gives you 3% on all travel and lodging (any hotel, AirBnb, and airline).
I think I'm done with the Chase Sapphire Reserve after 2021. Basically a $150 fee after renewing my global entry and $300 travel credit next year.
You're right, I misread that. The 5% back is only on travel purchased through Chase ultimate rewards. So I guess travel/lodging and groceries go to the Reserve card then. Freedom Unlimited for everything else.
-
So why do I still have the Chase Sapphire Reserve card? My other credit card is the Chase Freedom Unlimited, which currently offers 5% back on travel, 3% on dining, 3% on drugstore and 1.5% on everything else. The Reserve card has 3 points per dollar spent on dining and travel and 1 point for everything else, and from Nov. 1st until April 30th, 2021, you can get 3 points per dollar spent at the grocery store up to $1,000.
What am I missing? It seems to me the Freedom card is the better card outside of buying groceries at the moment. I guess if you travel a ton and take advantage of the airport lounges, the Reserve has more value. I do plan on downgrading the Reserve to the regular Chase Unlimited card and then applying for the Preferred card to get the bonus, but my 48 months with the Reserve card does not roll around until April. This is also the same time my Reserve annual fee is due. Anyway to avoid that fee when I do the downgrade and apply for the Preferred?

Update: Moderna Vaccine Trial that I'm in. After testing negative for antibodies following my 2nd injection with the commercial IgG test quoted above, I was determined to find the AB test geared toward the spike protein. I did find a reference lab in Austin that offers the Euroimmun ELISA test that detects IgG antibodies to the S1 domain of the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein. I had my blood draw yesterday and received my results today. I am happy to report I tested positive for antibodies with a result value of 8.99, anything greater than 1.09 is positive. In fact, my result value is considered high according to the report I got. I'm 42 years old BTW.
This was encouraging news as it confirms for me that I got the actual vaccine and elicited a good immune response. Plus, I have yet to grow a 3rd arm so things seem to be on the up and up with this trial.
Hopefully it all actually works.

Take a look at the Taylormade P770s as well. Got the P790s recently(would have taken a serious look at the JPX 921 hot metals but bought my irons right before they got released). Game changer for me(coming from the s55). Wasn't a big TM fan prior to these clubs but they are making some seriously amazing clubs lately.
Those are some nice looking clubs! Are both the P770 and P790 for mid-handicap golfers? I couldn't find anything definitive.

I need a new set of irons bad. I've been playing my current set of Titleist for almost 10 years now. I shoot in the mid to low 80s, so looking for a good mid-handicapper set. I bought the TM M4 driver a couple years ago and really like it.
I'm not sure what the latest and greatest irons are but I found a few with good reviews that I want to try out. I am left handed, so that will narrow it down some.
Thoughts on the following 3 sets? Any better sets out there?
Titleist T200 irons
Mizuno JPX 921 SEL irons
Callaway Apex irons

Good to know.
I went back and checked the test directory on the laboratories website for the two AB tests I had done and both test's methodology say, "The assay is designed to detect antibodies to the nucleocapsid protein of SARS-CoV-2...".
I'm assuming specialty labs can only provide testing for antibodies to the spike protein.
I guess I'll just be patient and wait until Moderna tells me what injection I got for sure.

Yeah.....that's......concerning. ZERO antibodies, though.....that would really strongly indicate that you got the placebo. Even a shitty, ineffective vaccine should cause SOME antibodies (maybe just at insufficient levels). At least, that's my understanding?
Yup, 0.0 was the result value on both tests. Anything greater than 1.4 on the IgG is positive for antibodies.
-
Update: It's been 3 weeks since I had my second Moderna vaccine injection, so I got an IGG and total antibody test yesterday and both tests came back negative for antibodies.
I was surprised by this given the reaction I had to the second injection (chills, fever, soreness, etc.) that lasted 24 hours.
Must have been one heck of a placebo shot!

I had my 2nd injection of the Moderna vaccine on Thursday afternoon. They did the nasal swab again (should be the last time for that thank God) and more blood work. The Dr. said most patients have been reporting mild fever and chills the next day that last about 24 hours, he was right.
About 4 hours after the injection my arm started to get sore near the injection site that progressed through the night and into the next day. This was the only reaction I had after the first injection 4 weeks prior.
Throughout yesterday I had chills off and on especially around lunch time. I put on some sweats and got under a big blanket for a bit to "warm" up. That helped. The highest my temperature ever got was 100.2 yesterday after dinner time. It mostly stayed around 98.5-99.0 most of the day. My normal body temperature is usually in the low to mid 97s range. I also had fairly mild body aches/soreness in some spots. Just an overall feeling of blah throughout the day yesterday.
I woke up this morning feeling good as new! My body definitely had a pretty good immune response yesterday, but overall, nothing major. When the vaccines do come out and if you decide to get one, maybe schedule it for a Friday so you can lie around on the couch the next day.
I go back in a month to have more blood work done and then again on the 6th, 12 and 24 month. I use an app to log my temperature and any reactions for the next 7 days and the lab calls me once a week for the next 3 weeks to see how I'm doing. The study lasts 2 years and I get up to $1,600 for my time.
At this point, I have no doubt that I received the actual vaccine and not the placebo, but I am still going to get the antibody test done on my own in two weeks to see what the count is. The full blood draw one, not the rapid test.
For the medical people out there, which would be the best test for me to get with the best results for my situation? The IgG test or the Total AB (IgM/IgG/IgA)?

The soreness was pretty much all gone today. The second day was the worst, very similar to when I get the flu shot. Raising my hand above my head and just applying slight pressure to the injection site was quite sore. Didn't have any redness or noticeable swelling.
Yup, the injection was done into the side of my upper arm, just below the shoulder.

I had my first appointment yesterday at one of the research labs here in Austin doing the vaccine trial for Moderna. The nasal swab was as uncomfortable as advertised. They took 8 vials of blood, which seemed excessive. Then I got the injection.
The injection site started to get sore last night and was a little worse this morning, but it felt about the same as when I get the flu shot. Pretty tender when I raise my arm. Since there is a decent amount of soreness maybe I did get the actual vaccine? I hope so, anyway, I go back in a month to get the second injection, plus another nasal swab.

I got a pre-screening call today about being involved in the vaccine trial. Both my wife and I signed up so we may be getting some follow up calls for the screening process. Is there any reason why I shouldn't go ahead and participate with the trial? Are there any medical posters here that can give me a really good reason that we shouldn't participate if chosen?
I got my second call back from one of the research centers here in Austin that is testing the Moderna vaccine. I go in on Tuesday to get blood work done. If I make it past that round, I would either get a placebo or the actual vaccine, not sure if they will tell me which one I'm getting.
My sister, who is a nurse, knows a few Doctors that are participating in a Covid-19 vaccine trial. I think a lot of participants are high risk and probably in the medical field.

Once the Moderna vaccine started shipping out to the rural areas I called every HEB and Brookshire Bros. in a 30 mile radius of her house and put her on the waiting list.
When the news broke yesterday about vaccinations opening up to group 1b. I started calling those same pharmacies when they opened this morning and was able to get that appt in Giddings.
I think persistence is the key here.
