  1. Dear Astros,

Please pull your heads out of your collective asses. Tomorrow is September 1st, and you’re in a legitimate fucking pennant race with the god damn Oakland A’s.

    Sincerely,

    Astros Fans

    P.S.
We sincerely appreciate the World Series win last year. We’re not even asking for a repeat, although it’d be a lot cooler if you did. Just please resemble on a somewhat consistent basis the fucking World Champions that you are.

  2. La King’s Confectionery on The Strand has awesome milk shakes and malts from an old time soda fountain - have some great candy made in-house too.

Been a few years since I’ve been to Gaido’s, but it was always delicious to me.

The Spot on the Seawall has great burgers and onion rings, nice laid back place you can go to straight from the beach.

Always loved Galveston - yeah, the beaches are what they are, but lots to do and really enjoy the history of the place.

  3. Did Bourbon House have anything more exotic?
You should be able to find the Double Oaked at most Total Wine locations in Austin.

They had over 200 bourbons on the menu, but surprisingly didn’t have as much as you’d expect in the way of rare or hard to find. I was disappointed in that regard - didn’t have Old Forrester Birthday, which I was hoping to try - but all was forgiven after tasting the bbq shrimp po-boy.

I’d seen the Double Oaked around town but wanted to try a pour before getting a bottle.

And I’d be remiss without mentioning the milk punch - made with Old Forrester, milk and vanilla ice cream. Yeah, I’m probably gonna need new pants.
  4. In New Orleans this weekend and just picked up 4 bottles of Eagle Rare @ $30 a bottle at a Rouse’s (grocery store) near Bourbon St. Still have yet to see it in the wild in Austin area without getting on a waiting list. So I got that going for me, which is nice.

Also tried the Woodford Reserve Double Oaked at lunch at the Bourbon House. Smooth to quite smooth and damn tasty.

  5. If you don’t want to wait in line for beignets at Cafe Du Monde, on the way back home stop at a little place off I-10 headed west between New Orleans and Baton Rouge called the Coffee Shop in Sorrento. It’s got a tourist trap “Cajun Village” surrounding it, but the beignets are legit. Lunch menu doesn’t disappoint either (recommend the shrimp bouree - damn tasty).
