Arch Manning: Doing his best JAG impression to fool scouts
ATLLonghorn replied to LTtxfan's topic in Football
They both mess up. Wingo's problem as a run blocker is that he is afraid to engage. Don't know if he's worried about contact or getting called for holding or what the deal is. He stays with his man, but makes no effort to block him. Endries also isn't a good blocker and also tries to block 21. There are a LOT of plays where guys are trying to block the same guy and it isn't a designed double team. Wingo should, for lack of a better term, dance with 21. Go with him where he wants to go, which is the outside, and Endries needs to cut up and block 48. edit: When I talk about effort in blocking for skill position players I want Sark, Chris Jackson, Chad Scott and Monkey Man to show the RBs, WRs and TEs this play this week. Watch Aaron Jones (#33) on this play. He goes out on a delayed route, but as soon as he turns he sees McCarthy scrambling so he gets his ass up field and plants a DB in the dirt. THAT is the effort you should show in blocking reps. -

Texas Football 2025 - Careening Towards the Abyss
ATLLonghorn replied to closetojumping's topic in Football
According to PFF there are 838 offensive linemen in college football who have played at least 25 run blocking snaps. Connor Stroh ranks 810th in run blocking grade. I've been actively watching Texas football for 23 years since my freshman year of college. He's the worst run blocking offensive lineman I've seen at Texas. -

Karma farming by posting this in here because this is the most active thread right now. Also, I know Goosby is probably our best offensive lineman. But the fact that 1. nobody put a foot in his ass or 2. his ass wasn't plastered to the bench for a few snaps because of the bullshit effort here is appalling. Lazy ass cut block attempt allowed a free hit on your quarterback. That shit is unacceptable. Gooofsby.mp4 -

gah brain fart on my part mis-identifying the target But that play just underscores the problem right now: There's not even a read here for him. It's a designed play to go to Livingstone. If he's open, throw it. He's open, THROW THE DAMN BALL. It's real fucked that the *best* case scenario is that Arch is terrified of making mistakes because the other option is that he literally has no idea how to play the position. Nevertheless, right now he's a serious negative and this is an 8-4 season at best the way he's playing. -

lol my Twitter thread made it over here Anyway, don't post much here anymore, but showed up to just drop this screenshot from his interception in the endzone. He stares down a wide-ass open tight end and doesn't throw the ball opting to scramble around and throw a yoloball in the endzone. Don't know if he was just insanely overrated, pressing way too much or both, but he absolutely sucks. Hopefully he'll get better, but he's not a P4 quarterback right now.- 5404 replies

Nobody gives a shit, but this was legit bothering me for a couple of days. #99 is true freshman Nate Kibble. In the postgame you can see #99 but he's got #70 on his helmet. Why he was the guy in the game at that moment and why he's wearing #99 I have no idea, but I've at least discovered the mystery man so my brain can stop obsessing over it.

Sawyer beat Hutson like a drum to the inside on third down, maybe that influenced things on fourth down? Either way, Cam has to be better. hutson.mp4

yeah this is entirely on Cam. There are plenty of things to pick apart in Ewers' performance, but this isn't one of them.
-
damn this is brutal. It's not even a good pass rush move it's just really shit technique from Cam.

Don't get me wrong, I hated the toss play. It was an absolute dog shit call. BUT. If you want to take a glass half full approach 1st down was busted by Tuimoloau, 2nd down was busted by Downs and 4th down was busted by Sawyer. They're one of the top 2 or 3 defenses in college football and on the deciding drive of the game there were plays made by their three best players.

I'm still perplexed by this. Texas has an unnamed #99 lined up next to Banks on the left side. Jermayne Lole is the only 99 on the roster. Teams use DL as extra run blockers pretty commonly, but if that was Lole why wouldn't his jersey have a name on it? I have no idea who that is and why there's a player with no name on his jersey on the field. He tries to get to a linebacker instead of blocking Tuimoloau and Helm doesn't do jack shit and Tui makes the play. The whole thing is confusing me. osu run 11.mp4

two things on the first and second down plays: 1st down: look next to Banks. Texas brings in another blocker wearing #99 but he doesn't have a name plate on the back of his jersey. #99 is Jermayne Lole and teams will use DTs to block, but if it's him, wouldn't he have a nameplate? Who is this mystery man? The mystery man is either supposed to double team Tuimoloau with Helm and get to the linebacker or he's supposed to block Tuimoloau and fucks it up. WHO IS THAT??? 2nd down: in his presser Sark says if it's blocked well it's in the endzone and from his vantage point he couldn't see where they were leaky. It was not blocked well, but the biggest problem is that Caleb Down fills the space vacated when Banks pulls so even if it WAS blocked well, Downs was going to blow it up. It was a bad play call and Knowles kicked his ass on it. osu run 11.mp4 osu run 2.mp4 -
Some video examples of things I noticed re-watching the game. 1. The stretch runs were death against a fast, athletic defense that tended to shade against our run plays. Kelvin Banks is one of the best to ever play offensive line at Texas, but it's asking a lot to have him try to get to the inside shoulder of a DT who is 40 pounds lighter than him and is lined up over the guard. 2. Everybody just played bad at times. I have examples for just about every lineman missing blocks, but this one kills me. Watch Campbell. Majors does a great job on his block and instead of getting to the next level and trying to block a linebacker, Campbell just half heartedly tries to block the guy Majors is blocking. 3. I want to give ASU a lot of credit. They were just really well prepared for the Texas run game. Yes, Majors completely whiffs here, but ASU was fast as hell to the ball and made tackles all game. Their defensive staff deserves a lot of credit. I have about ten plays clipped off, I can do more if people want and these are just examples of things I saw. asu run 2.mp4 asu run 3.mp4 asu run 4.mp4
