Well, it would need a separate, lower ratio gearset. The electric motors have lots of torque which would be better than a traditional 4WD-Hi system, but you need another transfer case/drive system gearset to have actual low range. I wonder if this is using a similar system to the S that still uses drive axles. The tri motor seems to me like it might have a traditional rear drive unit and two individual front wheel motors. I’d be interested to know.
The Rivian is using 4 individual wheel motors and as such has no driveshafts or axles and will not have a separate low range. The benefit of that setup though is you can still simulate locking differentials.
It seems to me that the purpose of a low-range gearset in an traditional IC off-roader is to get max torque from the IC engine at lower axle speeds. The electric motors have a flat powerband, which I’m sure at least partially obviates the need for a low-range gearset.
Also, locking diffs serve to apply power to the wheel that has the best traction, albeit in a very simplified way. The independently powered corners of electric cars can torque vector far more intelligently, and I suspect will be far more capable in this regard.

don't do it! seems everyone who drove that thing at track day resigned it to POS status. I didn't drive it, but I did pass it a few times in the other cars 😉
I assumed Chitown was was referencing AMG, not Nissan given the S63 discussion. I suspect AMG GT-R would hold its own in your track day lineup.

I can’t remember if it’s taboo in CYHMWT to say that your mother did not cringe when she showed up to service my platform last night.

Yup. I’m stuck at a gas station at West Lake Houston and Will Clayton. Been here about an hour and a half. Lightning struck 50ft in front of me. Got lots of videos of idiots driving, but not sure how to post them.
its like Harvey flooding over here. Not sure I’ll get home anytime soon
Damn. Hang in there. The heavy stuff is starting to fall here in 2nd Ward, but nothing like what’s been going on up there.

I think it’s @Pancho that’s in the Lake Houston area? That area has been getting hammered for hours.

SIAP, but if current models hold true, we may be getting on-scene reports from Frankie in a Cat 1 hurricane. Hopefully Frankie will be along shortly to allay my concerns.

I remember a good thread on this from the old site. Looking for the best place to pick up fresh fish/scrimps, preferably without driving to the coast.

This thread is the best on surly. Have to ask, are you really transporting a single rail beam from Sherman to LA?

I don’t think “imo” is necessary for this take.
Imo, the new merc interiors look like an incredible place to spend time.
