I understand exactly what they are saying. I'm saying it doesn't fucking matter. He isn't the fucking janitor. He isn't mid-level management. He is the fucking President of the University. He had other options than trample the safety and rights of students.

And if he didn't have any other options, then he should have resigned. And held a press conference explaining why. Go out a hero, not become a fascist enabler.

Still does!  As does the Crown & Anchor just up the street, which is also still there and still making a great cheeseburger.  As an engineering student, I spent a ridiculous amount of time at those two joints.

    Good to know.

I almost posted a photo of it from reddit the other day but figured it had been posted 47 times already.

Is that the corner of 21st and speedway? Son of a bitch. I used to live in a two story house that was to the left of where that orange front loader is. Right behind Record Exchange (RIP). I'm not sure of this "Sound Exchange" y'all speak of.

Duplex split upstairs and downstairs. We lived upstairs, couple of chick lived downstairs. They would call us about once a week or so to come out and run the drag worms off their front porch. Our kitchen window faced north. You could see into the windows of a Jewish student center. We'd gather and drink beer and watch their aerobics classes at 5 and 6 pm MWF. Anybody remember the ass floss outfits the ladies would wear over their tights when doing aerobics? I member.

Rent was 400 bucks a month (350 in the summer). Not 400 each, 400 total for a two bedroom one bath with kitchen and living room. Literally less than 50 yards from campus. No central AC though. But back then there would only be a handful to maybe two weeks worth of 100+ days during the summer.

And speaking of Liberty Lunch-- I saw Slayer (Hell Awaits tour), GWAR, Dead Milkmen, Morphine, too many more to remember there.

What is the name of the place next to Hyde Park Bar and Grill? I meet up with friends there for morning margs and tacos whenever I'm back in town. Love that place. I think its the same old woman working the register that has always been there.

Taco Shack was where I first learned about breakfast tacos.  I feel like it was called Taco Wars back then.  99 cent tacos.

    One favor

Can we please please please not turn this into a "I miss old Austin thread?"

Some good memories, and some not so good, in those pics. A piece of me died when I went back to the drag years later and saw that the Showdown had closed.

Also spent a lot of time, money, and liver and brain cells at Posse East (which was called "The Beach" when I first showed up on the 40) and the bar next door, whose name escapes me at the moment. Or maybe the bar next door was called the Posse East.

Any of you old timers ever eat at GM Steakhouse? Not the one on Lamar, the one near campus.

You would order a burger with "everything". They would ask, you sure you want everything? You say yes, and they would whip out some random object, like a carburetor from an old Chevy, and slap that on your plate.

Of course, the biggest donor to the University of Texas is arguably...the state of Texas. So yeah, he did what the Governor wanted.

state of Texas contributes more than the student body to UT?

I honestly don't know the answer to that question. Does the state contribute more than all the tuition, fees, etc the students pay? At one time, probably so, but with tuition increases, maybe?

Again, Hartzell didn't just fail to tell them to leave. He fucking invited them. He admits it in his letter. And he admits in more informally in his texts.

Oh I know. I'm saying he should reverse course, admit it was a mistake to ask for DPS help, and tell them to GTFO campus.

I keep hearing about "anti-semitism" in these protests. I scoured the net looking for any sign of violence, destruction, or anti-semitism in that protest and found zero. I saw students who were watching the protest wearing Israeli flags and saw no evidence of any anti-semitism directed toward them. If I'm wrong, somebody please correct me.

If the fucking proud boys can march with guns and torches and chant "The jews will not replace us," why is not ok for students to march in support of Palestine or Gaza or even Hamas? Or be against Israel?

Again, show me the violence or destruction.

Hartzell needs to do the right thing- tell DPS to GTFO campus, or resign.

    Abbott needs to DIAF.

The presence of the jack booted thugs, oh sorry, I meant DPS troopers was an unnecessary provocation and escalation.

tldr: Fuck abbott, fuck DPS, fuck Hartzell.

    Also: fuck Israel AND Hamas.

I had managed to never hear that word spoken until this tournament despite having read it forever.

On the same note I'm always entertained at the beginning of football season when kids start hitting the field and their names are pronounced wildly differently than my dumb ass read them in my head throughout their recruitment.

You never hear it spoken because no knows how to say it

My favorite is when you're in a board meeting about to vote on something (and I've been in 2 where we were deliberating and about to vote on someone's future - hiring/firing - and this happened) and someone rolls out something to the effect of "I've prayed about this and God has led me to know that _________."

Sheeeyit.  I can't argue with that.  You've got the almighty on your side.  The alpha and omega.  All I did was run this by my wife after a few cocktails, sleep on it, and apply my experience, reason and education to the question.

I was feeling pretty confident with my pair of deuces and you just pulled out the Mississippi flush.  I guess I just lose.  Discussion over, thanks be to God.

I have a co-worker who whenever he needs to make a decision about something will say "I'll pray on it."

At my wife's Catholic Parish (I am not R.C.), every now and again after service, I'd chat a slight bit of business with some of the guys I knew.  Nothing heavy, just light banter and maybe schedule a coffee or lunch.  Wife would tell me that it's frowned upon by the Church to talk shop on the Sabbath.  Then I showed her the last 3 pages of the bulletin, all ads by parishioners for insurance, real estate, wealth management, dentistry, etc.  All with crosses or fish.  She explained that "well, that's different...they're supporting the church with those ads."  Yeah, how do you think we make the money to support this church?  Doing business and networking.  A glamour shot ad with a fish symbol on it somehow makes it noble, but me scheduling a luncheon is a sin?

If the church isn't getting its taste, doing business on the sabbath is a sin.

I assume the defense would move for a mistrial, arguing that Trump tried to intimidate a juror, got caught, and now the rest of the jury likely will hold that against him.  The argument for the prosecution would be something like, "You don't get a mistrial for something you created (invited error).  They stick an alternate in the slot and move on.  That's my best guess for a Wednesday.

and then add another indicatement for witness intimidation.

    just kidding, nothing would happen.

how the hell does him being in custody delay the trial?

How would locking him up delay or stop the trail? Wouldn't they just go the lock up and bring him to trial when it started?

Arming teachers is the dumbest way to stop school shootings. Teachers who carry will automatically become targets. Police will most likely shoot the teachers who are carrying during a real shooting. A student will steal a gun at some point. A teacher will shoot a student. Who’s liable for this? Do teachers need to carry general liability? I mean what the fuck. Tennessee trying to out stupid Florida and Texas

o/u on how long a kid gets shot either because

    a) accidental discharge

    b) student steals/finds gun

    c) teacher loses their shit

    d) draws down on a student when they shouldn't have
