Schlitz went back to their 1960's recipe some years ago. I tell anyone who will listen that it's one of the most underrated 'cheap' beers out there. It can be hard to find (I've found it at central market in 6 packs) but if you see any grab some and give it another try. The original Shiner Premium is another very underrated beer also.

Will do.  My dad was a Schlitz distributor in the 60’s, 70’s and during the down fall in the early 80’s.  I drank a lot of Schlitz growing up.  There was always a keg on tap at my house.  Glorious times.

Even as a kid I thought wrestling was stupid and fake. Like a bad sitcom with worse acting.

You probably are too young, but you missed out on Wahoo McDaniel, Terry Funk, Mil Mascaras and others.

And totally anecdotal, but I know some mormons of various backgrounds, and by far and away they're the nicest people in the world.  I can't think of any social, professional, religious, ethnic, etc group, that as a class are more pleasant people than those folks.

Dunno if they have hidden-motive to install Utah Xenu as the antichrist or whatever but from my exposure so far, id rather have them as neighbors than anybody else.

My experience as well and I’ve known many of them.  One of our brand new young lawyers is Morman.  He’s a great guy.  And my late father’s best friend in the Navy was Mormon.  They had a life long friendship and my father never spoke better about another person.

hence my second option "or god is powerless to stop it so what's the point in prayer,"

Yes, we are saying similar things.  God’s gift of free will means, in my view, that He doesn’t have complete control over everything such that every thing that happens in the world is His will.  I differ from my Evangelical brethren in this regard.  And to repeat, all that said, I still pray for His intervention and for wisdom and strength in dealing with life’s struggles.

nothing. that's exactly the point. either god allowed it to happen and he's a jerk, or god is powerless to stop it so what's the point in prayer, or more likely, there is no god

Or, God gave humans free will and some humans do horrible things.  Yet I still pray because I have some degree of faith.  On the OP, I would never pray that someone I know do something for my benefit.  I would pray that he made the best decision for him and his family.  And I sure wouldn’t tell him that I’m praying for him.  That’s just creepy to me.

I had a Schlitz beer about 19 years ago. Specs actually had some of the redux  in their coolers. I don't know if it survived that reincarnation

I don’t think it did.  I had some back then and it wasn’t the same.  Schlitz was the beer of choice in the 70’s and it was awesome—especially on draft.  I can still taste it.  IMO, the closest thing to that flavor is Miller High Life bottle.  That’s not surprising in that they both originated in Milwaukee.

  7. I got tired of trying to find the chirping smoke detector (at 3:00 am) among the 8 or so detectors in my various homes over the years so my Thanksgiving weekend ritual is to replace the batteries in all of them each year.  I haven’t had a chirping smoke detector in about 15 years.

Mine are all wired and one has started chirping.

    wtf

Mine are wired too, but they all have a backup 9v battery.

My wife wants to get a handgun.  I of course will get her proper instruction. I think she should try a bunch of different pistols and find something she likes.  I think a hammerless revolver might be best. If she ever needed to use it, not sure expecting her to rack an auto would be smart.

I hear you on operating the slide of an auto, but my wife handles the slide on her S&W 9mm Shield.  Nice pistol to carry, but a small revolver would clearly be easier for her to handle.

I mean... Mi Tierra is fine. It's good, even. But there is no way in hell it is some of the "best Mexican food in San Antonio." You can swing a dead cat on just about any major intersection on the West Side of San Antonio and find better Mexican food. Hell, it's not even the best Mexican food restaurant in El Mercado.

I agree with all of this but it has a special place in my heart.  It was our last stop after a night of drinking in SA before heading back to Austin at 2:00 AM.  It’s a miracle I survived those days.

Yep -caused by some small blood clots on the lung -BS&W ER ran a bunch of scans & tests.
Didn’t sleep a wink in the ER last night. Just got in a regular room today.
7 or 8 cardiologists checked me out - new meds are clearing out the clots and I feel fine.

However the electro-cardiologist team & my main cardio doc said I need a pacemaker.
    They’ll install it Friday.

Sweet nurses up here, but no pics. Don’t want them using dull rusty needles on me.
Nice view of the roof top though.

quick double check - you folks that work out regularly and are 50 ish - are you always sore?  in addition to nagging injuries, I'm always work out sore, it never stops. even maintaining current levels of fitness, sore. ugh.  my diet is pretty good - I may look at my Vit D/Calcium intake as I don't drink milk, but I do eat a lot of cheese - I stretch quite a bit not all the time. Fairly well hydrated. maybe I'm just getting older, but I'd love to hear I'm not the only one.

Have you asked your PCP or a PT about this?  I'm 61 and I work out every day during the week with cardio and weights and on the weekends I'll do a physical activity like golf (walking 18 holes), tennis, etc.  I've been doing this since my middle 40's.  At my annual physical my doctor will give me some tips and a lengthy handout showing various stretching and foam roller or lacrosse ball exercises to help with occasional sore joints and muscles.  If I play golf several days in a row I may experience some minor back soreness, but it goes away quickly.  Otherwise, I am rarely sore after working out.  Maybe it's because I don't push it too hard.  I'm almost 6' 2" and weigh 176 and my goals are to maintain body weight and strength and keep my heart healthy.  I'm not trying to build muscle mass as if I were a younger man.

  12. Here’s a graph showing the number of US high school graduates by year.  When my first daughter graduated high school in 2010 it was near a peak but it was still better for her then then it would be now.  She easily got into Georgia and finally got into UT on an appeal.  The numbers show that it levelled off for a bit and then increased dramatically.  It’s supposed to peak in 2025 and then go down.  It that happens it could present some good opportunities for students at what I call middle tier universities.  Those schools will have to compete harder for good students.  The top schools will always get their pick of the litter.  IMG_1708.thumb.png.369fbef47238211e0b1a6a161d449324.png

All the reviews seem to agree it hits its stride by the third episode and is better than expected. We will see. He's back in Boston. Maybe we'll get some Cheers cameos?

The bar in the show is Mahoney's, so a nice nod to John Mahoney.

I hope they bring Norm back.  “It’s a dog eat-dog-world, Sammy, and I’m wearing Milk Bone underwear!”
