Thought of another one.... I'll use sunflower butter or just peanut butter when I'm making hummus. I know it's not authentic, but I don't make it often enough to keep tahini around just for that. Maybe I need more recipes that use tahini. Would love a hack for peeling garbanzo beans if one exists.

I use roux from a jar when making gumbo. It's just flour and oil, no reason to spend an hour making my own. Usually I'll brown chicken and andouille first, pull it out and then cook the vegetables with spices. Once they're cooked, stir the roux into the veggies to soften it and then start whisking in stock or water.

I am too lazy to search this thread and too dumb to find what I'm looking for so far. Are all tickets for the Big 12 tourney GA? We are considering a drive up this weekend if Texas advances (no jinx no jinx), and want to figure out if I can just buy tickets day of if that happens.

Yep, everything is GA.

A neighbor passed away this weekend after a 3 year fight with cancer. He left behind 2 elementary age boys. His widow is getting lots of "how can we help" offers from the community and would like to setup some kind of fund for the boys. GoFundMe seems simple and familiar but comes with overhead. There's also the issue of providing some transparency so people know gifts are actually going to the boys. A 529 could help with that, but it has limitations too (and not sure these 2 are college-bound). Any recommendations on setups that are easy for people to give to, lock funds to a specific purpose (somewhat) and maybe provide some transparency?

Thanks. We is the people of Texas.
IMHO, here are two things that we should replace with STEM and trade classes in the state of Texas:
History
Social Studies
Thanks for clarifying. Just so I'm understanding, you think we should eliminate all history and social studies from public education? No geography, no 3 branches of government, no bicameral legislature, no Constitution, no Revolutionary War, no Alamo, no Civil War, no Holocaust, no Vietnam, no Cold War, no space race, no MLK, no Kennedy, no 9/11? Is this what you're saying? Could you explain why you think that's a good idea?

It is needless to say that racism is baked into our society. We have profound inequality here on so many levels. I hope we can alleviate this problem, but I don’t see much change in my already-long lifetime.
That said, my opinion is that we now teach people to feel like victims and that is as destructive as systemic racism to break the bonds of poverty.
You want to help people? Teach them coding. Give them skills to empower themselves. My daughter currently does this through her university and the program is making a difference.
Rather than focus teaching on all the wrongs, spend that time giving people skills.
Neg away.
Not saying you don't have a valid point here, but could you give some examples of the things we should try to stop teaching? Maybe clarify the "we" also. Are you referring to teachers, parents, politicians, celebrities?

Thanks for the suggestion, but the wife likes to monitor St Pete and gauge storm severity based on when he takes off his clothes (jacket, tie, etc.). So our system is pretty airtight. For future storms, Evan Andrews (Fox 4 morning guy) does Facebook live during big events without drama. He's been going for almost 4 hours straight and just ended (as I think he gets up for the morning show at like 3AM). He was in direct path of that as well and was not concerned. Basically said take shelter if you want but the spin from that storm isn't going to be severe (i.e., it probably would have calmed your anxiety with alarms going in the background).-

Man, it was windy in Dallas on Sunday and I burned through charcoal pretty fast. This was all on my 18.5" WSM. Props to whomever recently said "there's always room for sausage." I managed to squeeze a couple pounds in there between my turkey and 2 racks of spare ribs. I used to do the 3-2-1 on ribs, but I think I like them better with just 5-6 hours straight on the smoke. I don't want them completely falling apart and they have a nice bit of "chew" to them still this way.

Definitely kind of bizarre.
Also, truly deeply bizarre for a reporter at a joint PC in Romania to ask a question about purely domestic issues. Insulting to the Romanian President.
I'm left to guess that she tried to spin an answer into something appropriate for that PC.
She should have flat rebuked the reporter. "I'm not going to answer that, it's an inappropriate question for this venue."
Also convenient that the clip starts with the reporter saying, "and if I could ask you Madame Vice President..." What came before the "and"? Could it have possibly been a question better directed at the Romanian President that would explain the VP's hesitation. I guess we'll never know.

… how exactly would one fly from Austria to Ukraine without entering NATO airspace?Rereading my post, it may not have been clear. What I meant was, if Russia wanted to retaliate against Austria they would have to go through NATO airspace and that's not something they're going to do.

… how exactly would one fly from Austria to Ukraine without entering NATO airspace?I never claimed you would. Is that a requirement? Have we drawn a redline on any Ukrainian soldier, pilot or equipment passing through NATO countries? The concern I've heard around jets is having NATO pilots flying in Ukraine or using NATO facilities/bases to stage and launch from. An Austrian model avoids those aspects.

There is no way to get them jets without flying them in from some other country. What is hard about that to understand? You can't just say hey Ukrainians it's cool come get your jets from a NATO air base and fly them into Ukraine on a mission. You also can't just have someone from NATO fly them INTO Ukrainian airspace. Javelins and munitions can be driven in and dropped off at the border. Jets can't just magic themselves into Ukraine. I get it, I really do - we want them to get jets, all of us do. There is no real feasible way to get them fucking jets.
This has probably been discussed at some point, but I haven't seen it. Why couldn't the jets be positioned some place like Austria and have the Ukranian pilots fly them from there? Austria isn't part of NATO. Russia isn't going to directly retaliate militarily without going through NATO airspace. I assume someone has already looked at this and decided it would still be too provocative.

What would you advise that family buy instead? Used car prices are heavily inflated right now. And buying a used family car is going to carry with it additional maintenance costs, increased fuel costs, and loss of newer safety features. Y'all complaining about families spending ~100k total on vehicles must not have shopped for a car anytime recently.
Depending on the rate, the longer term deal may actually be better financially for a family.
Well, I don't want to speak for @Aqua Buddha, but if someone doesn't have money to throw away I'd advise them to get a used Toyota or Honda minivan with 50-60K miles on it for ~$30K, like these:

And I'd advise their second vehicle be a smaller sedan or compact in the ~$20K range for one spouse to commute with like these:
- https://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/09a34b40-a6cf-490d-9bc4-5c5c13d5bdd4/?results_page_number=1&search_instance_id=80ce3956-715f-4aa0-92bb-25ae67c2d44f&search_zipcode=75083&vertical_position=16&web_page_type_to=shopping%2Fvehicle-details
- https://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/2b89e16b-7246-4cd6-b986-eaadd47e7d27/?results_page_number=1&search_instance_id=80ce3956-715f-4aa0-92bb-25ae67c2d44f&search_zipcode=75083&vertical_position=19&web_page_type_to=shopping%2Fvehicle-details
Point being, anyone who is saying a family needs $100K in vehicles because "that's what the market is now" isn't really trying. I can easily get to half that budget for reliable transportation. Anything beyond that is just what I want (and it's fine if someone wants more than that).

I found this part interesting:
QuoteA recent proposal to institute a no-fly zone is probably not the best idea. The problem is that it would apply to Ukrainian air force as well, including the Turkish-made Bayraktar TB2 drones which have been highly effective for the Ukrainians. Also, a request to NATO to attack a Russian aircraft you are directly requesting that they kill a Russian pilot which is not good for NATO and the anti-Russia coalition. It gives Russia an excuse to start fighting with NATO countries.
A better approach might be to establish and operate an anti-missile defense over the big cities and nuclear power stations. Russia cannot oppose this politically. For example a NATO statement that civilian casualties are too high, nuclear power plant are at high risk from rocket hits, therefore we will provide an an anti-missile defense (not anti-aircraft). This will dramatically decrease the Ukrainian civilian casualties in the cities. This would also be a force multiplier for the Ukrainian air defense making, for example Russian bombers, easy to target and bring down. Just target and destroy the technology. It may not be cheap however it would be effective militarily and politically. An anti-missile defense can be organized without sending equipment into Ukraine from four NATO countries (Poland, Slovakia, Hungary and Romania) which would at least cover the south and west parts of Ukraine.-

and if they were part of NATO or the EU (and have had 30 years to do so) they would have received help in this exact situation.
...but they have not shown that much interest in actually doing either until Russian troops were literally marching to Kyiv.
I don't necessarily disagree with staying out of the way, but you've said this at least 3 times and it's not accurate.
Ukraine has been working on a Membership Action Plan into NATO since 2008. They amended their constitution in 2019 to define their strategic pursuit of NATO membership. In 2017, 70% of Ukrainians were in favor of joining NATO.
It would be more accurate to say Ukraine has been invaded because of their interest in joining NATO.

Too many assholes to keep straight. CPAC is where Papa John claimed Biden caused Ukraine as a smokescreen. It should probably be on the list.Generally agree but I’m about truth, and that cpac claim isn’t true.-
