  1. I can't wait for the season to start! Fresh coach, fresh players...pride, fight and fire we have not seen in a long while.
  2. Sark's staff pulled in quite a few portal players... we got a star WR, a very good backup RB, a good backup CB, and a LB who may end up being pretty good... and we took a shot at several defensive ends/edges who came from big name schools (and were apparently let go from those schools for good reason) and have not really impressed. The portal is not a starter farm unless you are a downstream school like Rice or SMU getting kids who played at bigger power schools. It's rare to find a star lineman (offensive of defensive) and not very common even finding a Power 5 starter in the portal. I think the portal is better for locating skill players who are stuck behind superstars. Things may change with the NIL cash in years to come, but in the past most linemen in the portal are usually too injured, too dumb, too moody, or too damn average to step in and start for a team like Texas. If the rumors about Donovan Jackson or the Brocks are true, the portal may be better for o-linemen this coming year and I guarantee you that Texas will be in the bidding. Beard did a great job with the b-ball portal. I'm pumped to see how he puts all the new pieces together. But basketball is a different beast than football. I'm not happy with the inconsistency, and hate our oline and defensive end/edge play currently, but gotta give Sark a reasonable amount of time before you throw the rope over the tree limb for him. I suspect any portal WRs, O-linemen, and defensive ends worth a look will be getting one... we'll see how it pans out for 2022.
  3. Frustrating not to have a well-polished, consistent machine running 7 games into the season.. absolutely. But, every hire needs a couple years to get his/her parts in place and her system engrained. If you can't give it that long before the sky is falling, I recommend the women's tennis or volleyball teams... they're as close to expectations as the national championship or guillotine crowd will find.

  5. Something about it would be great to get a 40 acre field full of players like Moncada Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. If we’re lucky! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. Frost has that dead man walking she’ll shocked look already … he needs some black coffee or something. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. A lot of players who are not starting will likely see at a good chunk of minutes against Rice…a small window to perhaps make an under-fire argument why they need to start… hopefully any changes that need to be made will become glaring enough for Sark to pull the trigger for the Tech game. 9. Card showed his inexperience today. He had shitty blocking, but waiting for things to develop when the better choice would have been to tuck and run. Casey came in and was more dialed in to the timing and such, albeit versus a less aggressive defense by that point in time. Casey earned a start next game. As it will be Rice, Card will likely get at least 1 quarter of playing time. Reevaluate after Rice. I'd lean toward going with Casey unless he shit the bed, but if either guy is having a really bad game, bring in the sub at half while the game is salvageable.
  10. Been looking but haven’t seen him yet … may have missed him on one or two plays Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. likely to the prestigious Weed-eater Bowl for the best of the remaining scraps.
  12. Kidd would probably be last on that list.
  13. South Sudan?... whoa... talk about a challenging first head coaching assignment. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. there were times this past season when it seemed like Greg himself didn't give a shit
  15. Cunningham has a lot offer in the effort, passing, defense, and even rebounding categories... he will be a valuable bench player who could average 10 minutes a game if he stays out of foul trouble. With the predicted deep roster, minutes will have to be earned... unlike the days where we had potentially useful situational players sitting on the bench at odd times.
  16. There becomes a point where Ramey and Coleman waiting to make a decision actually is detrimental to the team, as equally/better skilled guards in the portal will choose to go elsewhere if they think there's a good chance of Ramey or Coleman taking valuable playing time. Simms is a critical addition and I don't mind giving more time to decide. two rebounding paint presence guys and a guard with a handle are what can take the team up from a likely 3rd/4th place Big 12 finish to being one of the favorites to win it. We absolutely need a guy to play center and a 2nd PG. If Ramey comes back, a viable argument can be made that we still need a 2nd reliable ballhandler. I'd take Simms, the UTEP big, and the OU point guard transfer and call it a wrap... a Greg Brown surprise decision or a different, third big man in the loop would be awesome.
  17. The good news is they wouldn’t need to be “the man” here with all the talent on the roster so far... they’d be role players and would just need to be consistent and sound ... that said Simms and/another paint presence would be ideal Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. Simms and Tanner Groves or another 6'8" guy who can defend in the paint and rebound would really round out this roster to compete against bigger squads that bishop and allen might have trouble manning the inside against on offense and defense... even so, I think this team is already scrappy enough to hang with most teams, but some more size with athleticism would really bring it up a notch.
  19. That plus Simms, Muoka(the kid from Lamar) and Greg Brown would be fricking awesome... even Hepa choosing to return over Brown staying a year would be a very good pool of players Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. Simms, another guard who can bring the ball up court and find the open man, and one more rebounder who can block an occasional shot and this team just might be salty enough to make it to the 2nd weekend of the tourney.
  21. A hike through the Gap of Dunloe would be worthwhile. It's very close to Killarney. The Ring of Kerry is cool, but I kind of like to drive around the peninsula that includes Dingle and Connor Pass, as there are less tour buses. Also, I'd recommend a stop at Minard castle, between Killarney and Dingle, which is well off the beaten path and very surreal. In Dublin, there's large multistory pub (near St. Stephen's green and the main pedestrian/shopping/busking street) called O'neill's[sp?] that has a great cafeteria on the bottom floor. The Brazen Head in Dublin is a good spot to grab a Guinness.
  22. Despite flashes of showing some offensive ability (he pump faked and drove the lane once for a dunk), he has exhibited many bad habits / deficiencies that were not corrected or improved in his stay here... the ones that bothered me most included his unwillingness to box out for rebounds and lazy reaching on defense... on offense he fell in love (and was not coached up otherwise) with just standing in the corner and allowed his defender to cheat off him and rest... even when he was hot in rare games on offense, his weak defense ended up putting him on the bad side of the +\- column... his overall physicality and effort reminded me of a skilled junior high kid getting a taste of being bullied around by a grown man and being intimidated by it... a change in mindset and some firm coaching could make him a useful player this year... 23. Aj and Ramey killing us with lazy stupid play
  24. Febres and AJ are soft on defense Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  25. It'll be a strange (expectedly very rough, but hopefully not so) season with a roster full of swingmen types... youth will be tossed about as an excuse.. no true ball handler and no presence in the paint. We will shoot a ton of threes, get outrebounded regularly, and shy away even more from any paint related offense (unless Simms returned for some reason). Without a couple guys who can block a shot and fight for defensive rebounds, even the one most consistent plus for this team (defense) is prone for a drop.
