  1. next year versus UCONN in Austin should provide a good coaching barometer/comparison since both Hurley and Terry will be retooling most of their rosters.
  2. Owens and Arch look a lot more serious and tuned in than Ewers did … Ewers is a quiet guy who can be mistaken as nonchalant at times but today he didn’t look like the clear starter at QB
  3. What about the possibility the kid got cold feet, flaked or demanded some crazy NIL? Kids change their mind… especially with money in the equation and people in their ears
  4. Scott never stepped on campus, unlike Tyson Chris Johnson may be a better comparison
  5. Saw this guy playing on ESPN+ a few games... He's a fast aggressive rebounder with a great vertical. I'd take him in a heartbeat, though he's not gonna carry a large load on offense.
  6. I'd take him if he's not playing the point and is a good team chemistry/glue guy. That said, we still need a solid rim protector (or two) and primary ball handler type (and backup PG if Hunter is gone). Regardless of who comes in through the portal, I hope we avoid the "you're the man... go make something happen" offense we ran too often with Abmas.
  7. Newton, Castle/Samson Johnson, Karaban/Clingan ... It's hard to say from this group. Each, with good health and adaptation to the NBA game could play roles in the league for several years. Edey might could be a back-up bench big for several years if he stays in good shape and good health.
  8. I'd be okay with both Mitchell and Hunter on the roster next year if they chose to return. That said, they are definitely role players who need to be off the court when they are not meeting expectations. Mitchell is good defender and rebounder, but he simply can't keep a defense honest if he's not under the basket. Hunter is a short two guard who can defend and cover the point for short spurts when he's not having one of his WTF nights. He's kind of what RT wanted Horton to be this year. When he's asked to be an offensive focal point of primary ball handler he folds more oft than not. Both would be fine on the team next year with short leashes when they disappear on the court.
  9. I was scratching my head as to why he wasn't getting any minutes to build some experience. If he was goose-egging on the school attendance part of the job, I guess I understand why now. It doesn't take much for an athlete to get a passing GPA in "undecided" with all the tutors and hand-holders provided.
  10. They'd be good depth and can certainly fill a few roles, but agree their roles do not include offensive consistency (nor great ball handling for their respective positions). Both are plus defenders who can start next year if the roster is rounded out with some shooters/scorers. Both can have a double digit scoring game a good 30-50 percent of the time. Both have their holes. With them on the team next year, we will still need 3-4 more guys who can consistently get a good shot off and have the potential to more often than not get 12-17 points a game.
  11. depth, maturity and experience in the "system" is always a plus. System refining/upgrading and player growth will be needed for sure.
  12. I get the unpredictability with portal transfers. The couch can account for everything in that respect. Seasoned guys having meltdowns (like Hunter with the turnovers against Tennessee, and Max taking bad quick shots when he should know better) might also not be on the coach as much as we think. However, substitutions patterns and line-ups is ALL on the coach in my opinion and their were times this year when Rodney did not have his best available 5 on the court when he needed them on the court. Even the coach's favorites need to sit if they are doing crazy stuff, even if it's just long enough to relax and be reeducated on the gameplan.
  13. Nope. Earlier in the season he tried some post-up spin moves with his back to the basket on the baseline and drives with sort pull-ups, but he often didn't even draw iron. After that he completely quit shooting anything that wasn't a dunk or put back and teams knew they could loosely cover him with their worst defender.
  14. That abmas off balance three pointer with 20 seconds left rather than a drive and attempt to draw a foul was piss poor play calling or pure shit if the 5th year player decided to ad lib there … either way stupidity
  15. Ball handling, floor generalship and interior presence are my wish list
  16. Those made me cry after seeing weaver D’Ing him up and getting pulled with plenty of gas in the tank
  17. Abmas has been showing all year that there is a huge talent gap between Tulsa and big 12 level talent. Mitchell on the court on offense allows Tennessee to defend 5 on 4 Hunter and abmas being so sloppy with ball security and decision making is pathetic Horton getting more than 5-8 minutes a game at this point is criminally negligent And Brock former energy / effort has devolved to thug shit this year … weaver needs more his and hortons minutes
  18. What’s he supposed to do there … let the guy hold his arm and prevent from being able to move, rebound, etc… if it’s a flagrant foul on Brock it should be at least a regular foul on the dude with the cornrows
  19. Weaver did well covering Knecht … hate to see him on the bench when abmas and Hunter are playing so terrified
  20. Bend your damn knees Horton … can let a guy just drive by you so easy … and get your body on a man and jump when you rebound
  21. My The point I was trying to make was that we closed the door when CSU was gaining ground and confidence due in large part to Weaver's defense and offense. With the hot and cold play of this horns this year, I don't think using the phrase "pull the game out" is necessarily non applicable. All said, I'll take an ugly, 1 point win at the buzzer with guys who have not seen the court all year playing significant minutes if it means we live on to the next game.
  22. He really deserved more minutes this year … if we go out on our shield this tourney it should be with weaver on the floor for 30+ minutes
