  1. Sadly … weaver, our 6’3” guard, may be our best interior defender and rebounder
  2. We looked good early in the Syracuse game running a fast break-ish offense... and didn't settle for 3's. We also seemed to do decent against the zone with Weaver bouncing around in the no man's land to receive passes. Once things slowed down things got clunky and downright shitty at times, especially with Johnson frustrated and wanting to shoot his way out of the slump and Shed getting pushed out of position (even by smaller guys). The absence of a big man to clean up the missed shots on defense and make opposing posts pass the ball, rather than requiring a double-team from a guard to help, is going to be a problem. The only guy who seems to be able to play a center role is Onyema, and he's like an 9th or 10th man type at best for most teams... though he does look improved physically from last year. I sense it will be frustrating when we go against skilled SEC teams with guys on the frontline that are 6'9" and more. We are going to have to run. If Shed has one viable trait, it looks like he is pretty quick up and down the court... he also seems inclined to dunk rather than shoot flatfooted or fadeaway shit close to the basket, which is favorable for drawing fouls and shot percentage. His shot blocking timing also seems decent... but his battery, man-on-man defense, rebounding acumen, and strength are not SEC starter worthy at the moment. Rodney has a lot of work ahead. And, I am not sure any amount of work can transform Shed or Onyema into guys that can stay on the court for more than 5 minutes at a time or deter teams from looking into the paint for points.
  3. Cuse exposed our weakness (interior strength and defensive boards) and our stud freshman let the pressure get to him a bit tonight (hopefully a great learning opportunity). Shed got out-toughed and ended with just 2 boards … he’s going to have to step it up with the interior defense if we are gonna be a top 25 team Hoping Kent can provide some interior toughness when he’s back
  4. Pretty good half for the good guys, all said.
  5. Larry much better at point than Pope so far this season
  6. What Mccloud just did to shed there is what I fear why I worry about teams with good big men in SEC play and beyond
  7. Onyema, for all his flaws, looks in better shape this year … Kaluma, Johnson and Marks may end up being a very solid trio on offense
  8. Wow … Great start on both ends of the court for the good orange guys
  9. Ensuring a sure win while working towards getting all the new pieces and combinations thereof playing in sync by the time conference games start …
  10. We owe these fucks for several recent ass kickings they’ve put on us… hoping the offense comes out focused this morning and ewers has had a couple espressos
  11. Looks like they’re playing in a concrete underpass or drainage ditch with some cheap green turf rolled into it
  12. In the second half it appeared like many of our players started to find their individual grooves of sorts (against an inferior opponent with no depth) where they were finding spots to get better shots up and playing better defense. The key will be whether we can get a reliable offense with multiple layers installed so guys can get good looks moving without the ball without being too predictable when we play the big boy teams who are coached up well
  13. Vinson deserves some more minutes in the next few games to see if we have a viable backup center … Onyema has had his chance to show something
  14. Our fast break offense looks good against this team … our half court offense is VERY basic at the moment
  15. Whataburger manager vibe
  16. Offense is basically looking for the three point shot off drives. We’ve been hitting shots but need to get something going inside to mix things up. Defense is a work in progress…hit and miss so far on the help defense, switches off screens and communication Team looks fast and they seem like they can shoot… they’re a little out of control on both ends so far and zero post offense
  17. And now they’re cooking a bit better
