He’s right you know….   I think we have enough examples, Ricky, Vince, Earl Thomas, it’s obviously not that hard for some to make bad choices.  Just save 30% of everything you make clean and clear for a rainy day and after you stop playing, stop the lifestyle would be great advice for everyone. Everyone makes fun of Gronk for being stupid but he has never spent a single full nfl check he got.  He never built a unsellable mansion and only bought reasonable houses while playing football.

Huh? Ricky is very far from broke. I doubt earl is either.

This is good information.  I go with Cody personally who could never get in a rhythm because of some freaky injuries, but his stock may be fading a little.  I'm not a huge fan of this draft.  I use one of these picks for a good young starter or take it and trade into another draft lottery, probably with 8.  Sucks because in a good draft, you probably walk away with your core.  This draft is trickier and it's easy to see not moving the needle much.  Hopefully the Spurs can get it right because the rest of this roster is pretty bad.... really bad.

We had 0 guys who on a per minute basis really played winning basketball (TS > .550; PER > 15; WS/48 > .100; VORP > 1.0) besides Wemby.  Tre Jones and Vassell were really close so they probably stay unless you get an insane offer on them.  Anyone else?  Should be eligible to move immediately if it's better for the team L-T.  Jeremy Sochan is a losing basketball player as a package.  I like some things he does outside the boxscore and in isolation but as a package on the court -- he's not good right now and I would argue it's because the staff has done a really bad job of defining his role.  Team still needs playmaking, shooting, and some energy.  Hope we can take a major step forward next year.  The goal should be the playoffs.

I agree on Cody Williams. I also like Devin Carter. Super athletes who can shoot 3s and play defense are pretty rare, especially in this draft.

We got a sausage & mushroom pie from Feral Pizza tonight (stock photo below, not ours, we ate ours too fast).  Near 51st and Duval, it's a food trailer in the lot of Duval Market.

Fantastic NY style pizza.  The house-made sausage had tremendous flavor.  The crust was thin but not crackerish, with a hint of sourdough, and the sauce was excellent, although I'd like more.  I'd put it a step above Homeslice, at least based on this one trip, which won't be our last.  Really nice people, too.

How's it compare to Pedrosos and Baldinucci flavor-wise and in price?

Writing in another thread, it occurs to me that one thing** that contributes heavily to enshittening is the fact that many or most of these products are non-competitive at introduction:  they don't make money and aren't really designed to.  They're designed to attract users/subscribers, which is the only metric that seems to matter in early stages.

Once they have to exist on a profitable basis and/or draw competition, they start cutting corners and costs and raising prices.

It's a bait and switch from jump.

**Actually it's probably not one thing it's THE thing.

Jeez, just like Uber and Lyft.

...and hey, in current Austin I can bump into @jimmyjazz at a show and see that Austin still turns out great new bands... and a lot of them TBH.

For those who care, Money Chicha playing at Central Machine Works on Sunday.

Which reminds me, Africa Night at the Sahara Lounge is one of the best things going in Austin...

I miss TCs. Sahara Lounge is good, but doesn't hold a candle to what TCs once was.

I don’t know. I guess maybe don’t suck off on Hamas and cry fowl when the chickens come home to roost? Like this is a very organized protest across college campuses for what purpose? educate all of us on how sad it is? This 1000 year old war. Make us stop what exactly? Protesting the strikes on Gaza for what end? Why now? Especially after an unprecedented attack by Hamas. These fucks protesting need to go the fuck home. Go home.

You have to pick a side in this war. Sitting and cover your faces and crying about a thousand plus year old war. I have sympathy  for the innocent people in harms way. But this is bullshit and these hired fucks should go the fuck home.

if you do what you’ve always done you will get what you’ve always gotten. The Middle East and Russia remind me of this. Still trying to do the same shit and get different results. Maybe I don’t know try new leadership. Find better leadership. I have about as much sympathy overall for the Middle East as I do the Russian people. Time and again they choose poorly. Boo the fuck hoo.

if I seem pissed the fuck off I am. I rarely wade into this shit. I’m Lebanese, Jewish and German/english. I studied history. What the fuck do I know? Not much. Go home protesting dumb fucks. Go home. And who paid them to organize like this? And fuck them too.

Where is your proof that these people are pro Hamas? You're just throwing around accusations with absolutely nothing to back it up. Just unbelievable!

Regulations of wearing masks or KKK hoods while assembling in public has been a thing for a century.  Here is a more recent example where the Second Circuit rejected the Klan's right to hide their faces while assembling.

    https://www.nyclu.org/court-cases/church-american-knights-kkk-v-city-new-york-challenging-restriction-assembling-while-wearing

On Jan. 20, 2004, the Second Circuit reversed the District Court. In doing so, the Second Circuit reasoned that the First Amendment right of anonymous speech does not embrace a right to conceal one’s appearance in a public demonstration.

    Well, that's completely fucked up.

I don't know.  I graduated 20+ years ago.  But there were designated spaces for protests.  Schools have time, place and manner restrictions for first amendment activities.  These restrictions, if viewpoint neutral and compliant with court precedent, are enforceable.  No matter how much you want to hide your face with a mask and protest Jews right to exist.

No one is refuting Jews right to exist. Your ability to use logic is outstanding!

  10. I live by the Brodie location, and it's still pretty good. My go-to TexMex when we don't feel like making an effort.

I used to love it. But the last three times we've gone it's been total ass. My wife was a die-hard fan, but even she's out on it now. Maybe it's just the Slaughter location, which is closest to us.

Still not sure why they don't bottle and sell the dona sauce. I'd buy that shit by the gallon, although I prefer the green sauce from El Pollo Rico.

They do. Well, not bottles, but plastic containers. It's for sale at HEB.

Cancel culture is strong with this one. He wants to cancel all foreign policy and return to an American policy of Lord of the Flies by other countries is OK by me - so long as it’s not my country doing foreign policy junk.   Cool brah.

Who are we to encourage democracy, to request that genital mutilation end, to promote religious toleration, to demand other countries enact/adhere to policies for the sustainability of international fishing, or to interfere with those other countries God-given  to perform genocide and junk…?

Is your solution to let other countries have foreign policies that favor their individual countries’ interests - but we are not to do that?

    Inquiring minds at all.

Not what I said at all. We can, and should have relations with every country. We can and should not dictate how they run themselves. We have a strong relationship with the extremely autocratic Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, yet we can't have normalized relations with Venezuela. Why not? It's hypocritical and actually undermines our soft power with nations outside the West and fucks with the global economy all at once!

    US reinstates Venezuela oil sanctions.
The White House has announced it’s letting a Venezuela oil sanctions relief package expire, due to the Maduro regime’s lack of progress towards free and fair elections. Maduro committed last year to letting opposition figures run against him, but authorities went on to disqualify the leading candidate. The election is scheduled for Sunday July 28.

The US just loves tripping all over their own dick. Not like Saudi Arabia has any elections at all. Who the fuck are we to dictate how other nations rule themselves? I don't give a single flying fuck. Hypocritical dumbfucks all around.

Torchys is not e step above fucking Fuzzy’s. Velvet is better and doesn’t have the reeking hipster attitude. I don’t eat at any of them as there are so many independent joints that are better in every way. None of these joints can compare to Salsa Limon in ft worth or Maria Bonita or Tic Taco or 2 Compas in Arlington.

There is absolutely nothing hipster about Torchy's. Not one thing other than unjustifiably high prices, which Velvet shares with them.

I said it last night, but the next evolution of Booker's game is improving her 3 point shot. Her jumper is so good and her FT shooting is INSANE (88%) that I fully expect her 3 point shooting to be much better after a full offseason. And she's still at 31.7%.  Texas has to work to get Shay more opportunities (38%) and I still am in the LET MAUL PLAY camp (39%) when teams go zone on us.

Totally agree about letting Maul play. I hope she gets a little run in the playoffs.

With February in the books, we're at 11 murders on KXAN's count. Previous years:

    2024: 11
    2023: 15
    2022: 14
    2021: 13
    2020: 9

One thing to note -- this year's 11 homicides include a security guard killing a man in self-defense and this past week a guy who killed another guy in self defense that was slashing tires in a parking lot and allegedly lunged at him.

Then those aren’t murders. Killing someone isn’t the same as murder.

This is assuming that the city will even legally count the ballots.  In a place where leadership has made it abundantly clear that they don't care what the majority of people want and are willing to pull shenanigans like this one with the polling location across town, write ballot language in a manner to deliberately confuse voters (on what seems like every single controversial bond or referendum), why are we supposed to trust that they even acknowledge the true vote count if it doesn't turn out the way they've already engineered it to turn out?   Although I hope they never have stooped that low, we've got plenty of reason to be suspicious given their willingness to play ridiculous games in every other aspect of local elections.  More often than not they can rely on the abundance of useful idiots (young voters) to pass whatever they put before them so long as it is couched in the right language, but for those moments when they don't believe they can count on the vote to go their way we've seen the blatant attempts at rigging the outcome they're willing to pull.  It's not a far cry to think they may pull even dirtier moves behind the scenes.

That's just straight paranoia with nothing to back it up whatsoever.
