was that the JJ game in black jerseys?..

    that white boy was ballin

    fuck. its been 20 years?

I honestly don't remember JJ specifically. I'm pretty sure it was December of 2002, which I think was his freshman year. We were overwhelmed from the get go, unfortunately.

I watched us play Duke in MSG twenty years ago. It was an awesome experience to be in MSG, but we left in the "fourth quarter" because we were getting whooped. Here's hoping for better results this year.

Pittman could do that because Vince was a massive run threat and had one of the best ball fakes of all time. Pittman is also very much like Whittington, with good agility and just an all around competitor.

Cain ran a 4.71 electronic-timed 40 as a sophomore at 6-2, with arms that hang down to his knees. Most skill position players get faster, if they show speed that young. He showed decent agility on tape and has a massive catch radius. His long arms help keep defenders from jamming. I remember saying he's not great but he's one of the better recruits we've landed at that position in a while. His 4.71 as a sophomore is faster than most of our receivers (before Sark) while they were in college. And they didn't have Cain's length or ball skills. Too many of our recruits over the past 10-15 years, even the 4-stars, had no chance at this level. Online websites have fans fooled.

Cain was chastised on the internet because of his less than desirable ranking and the fact a few UT "journalists" thought it was a bad take. All the while, other receivers with way less talent were applauded because of their ranking and the fact a few UT "journalists" thought they were good pickups.

Some of you should go back and watch his film and take a look at his measurements and track times at an early age.

Online recruiting evaluations have jumped the shark. Does anyone actually go back and look at past results? Does anyone actually learn how to evaluate talent? Or just make excuses when they're very wrong on a recruit? There's no accountability in this profession.

He also had the best feet to set up the DB that I've seen from a high schooler. Dude has great WR skills.

  4. ATX Cocina is downtown, and my favorite restaurant in the city these days. Highly recommend. Mort Subite is great if you are looking to spend too much money drinking great Begian beer. Devil May Care has excellent Mediterranean food and starts to turn into a club if you dine later in the evening, can be fun if you are into that.

  5. The San Antonio paper has been huge bitches towards Austin the past couple of years. I don't get it. Austin has no antipathy towards San Antonio. We should be working together to make the region a better place.

Saw where the chef at El Naranjo won the James Beard for best chef in Texas

I ate there once years ago, at the old location, and I was not impressed at all. It was also weirdly expensive. I remember the chicken mole being over $40. Anyone been there in the past year? Is it better now?

Soooo going from a far right leader who likes Putin to a leftie who likes Putin.

I don't think Lula likes Putin. I think he likes a multi-polar world that isn't dominated by the US, much like India, Maylasia, Indonesia, Philippines, etc. For them it is real politik, not personal.

Do you think we are done with cost overruns for Project Connect?  Light rail is nice but education should be a higher priority.

Just this first cost overrun is enough money to fix about all of the problems with Austin ISD.  I'm not talking water parks and planetariums -- hey we don't have the aspirations of La Joya. I mean modern buildings for all children that would replace buildings that are 50-70 years old.  Not just for the east side or west side ... this would fix the entire district.  Just this one overrun.

The $100 million for the tunnel extension on S. Congress would buy three elementary schools serving 1,800 kids.  Or, if you are into football, three stadiums or six indoor practice facilities (ten if you build them without walls) or two really nice performing arts centers.

Austin ISD has to come to the voters and justify new projects.  Project Connect does not.  Project Connect has a fixed number of cents of funding in the Austin city budget.  The money goes to the Austin Transit Partnership, governed by a five person board with only one or two elected officials.  There is no voter approval of projects other than the initial proposal.  If property tax values rise faster than 3.5% per year, the percentage of the city budget given to ATP will increase over time.  It is a money machine.

I mean, if we cut the amount of recapture property taxes leaving AISD in half we could pay for all that too. Kill the capitol view requirements and we could save 100s of millions. The state of Texas loves to fuck Austin up. I'd rather have good transportation and good schools.

El Alma gets my vote.  Not the best marg, but best one I can think of with quality outdoor seating.

Their chilanga margarita is one of my favorite drinks in the world. Perfect amount of spiciness in every sip. The rooftop patio is great as long as the grackles aren't shitting on you.

had the pascal at hopfields last week.  i would not say quality has dropped off at all.  still an excellent and one-of-a-kind burger.   we sat on the patio and the service was terrible.  waiter was a total dick.  and slow on top of that.  wine was expensive per glass and the pours were on the cinchy side.

I had that burger 6 months or so ago. Did not care for it at all. It was so acidic between the cornichons and the mustard. All I tasted was acidity and more acidity. That combined with the cost of it really did not impress me. The best burger I've had in Austin was at the Little Darlin. Every bite was well seasoned and delicious. It's still $15, but at least it comes with fries.

It's an infrastructure issue. Germany could have chosen to build LNG terminals but instead took the easier option of putting their nation's wellbeing into the hands of a despotic dictator with NS2

They could have chosen not to close down their nuclear generators. Absolutely mind-numbingly stupid. The truth is that the Germans backed themselves into this Russian-reliant energy corner, and now they will pay for it one way or another.

His rambling "about" section says he's from Dallas but went to HS in Tulsa....Peace Corps vet (take that, whoever said he's not a hippy). Seems to have gone off the rails in his mid to late 20s.

There is some speculation that she OD'd and instead of reporting it, and risking arrest for his meth lab, and suffering from meth psychosis, thought it would be a better idea to just go ahead and chop her up and put her in the deep freeze. Others say neighbors heard her screaming for her life a while back, but did nothing. After all even thought it's gentrified it's still the Bloody Ninth Ward.

I know two people who served in the Peace Corps and neither is a hippie.
